Re: Undrafted Free Agent Signings
Fred from Dartmouth: If the reported signings of UDFA's so far are true, get ready to start another thread. We drafted Cannon and I was so happy to get the "big tub of goo from TCU" because Logan Mankins is our best O Lineman and what does Ngata do to him every time he plays him? Other teams are adding Suh, Fairley, Darius and we invite in a 303 lb. lineman, a WR/KR. This has got to get better. So far these guys look like with 3 or 4 years of experience they could be sub-jags.
I know people are going to say "well look what Bill's done over the past 10 years." It would be so much easier for me if I wasn't old enough to have seen all the great teams go in the toilet, and it almost always started from a draft standpoint. Green Bay Packers, 49ers, Steelers, and as good as Shula was he couldn't get the complementary pieces around Marino throughout his whole career.
I die a little inside every time BB or Tom Brady are interviewed and it starts off with "you guys are the best, you're geniuses," because after a period of time, being human, we start to believe it. I remember growing up and seeing parents tell their kids that they were losers. They'd take a perfectly good human being and destroy them, and unfortunately, the opposite is true.
I'm still holding out hope for tomorrow, but if we did take the 17th pick in the draft and spend it on a kid that's going to take a year to get ready, then he signed a 3 year contract, And if Ras-I Dowling gets hurt the run on single edge razor blades will be unbelievable. I was hoping that Bill would pick up some UDFA's with potential and first and second round draft picks that were starters. I hope I'm totally wrong about all of it but even mighty Rome fell.
