Let's not write their obituary just yet. Yes, they look horrible. But the Jets have been in this position before, only to go on a late season and postseason run and surprise a few teams. This includes the very embarrassing loss by our own Pats after killing them 45-3 a month earlier.
The last time they were 5-5 is 2009. That year, they backed into the playoffs at 9-7 because of the fact their last two games the opponent gave them the win because they were resting players for the playoffs. I don't think 9-7 will get you in this year and the Jets are not going to face any teams resting for the playoffs this year.
The Jets have a very small chance to get into the playoffs. They almost have to win out because they lose all the tiebreakers with all the Wild Card contenders. One or two other teams are going to get at least 10 wins.

I know what they have to do to get in. I'm just leery of writing them off at this point. Call it superstition.

This Jets team is nothing like the Jets' teams of the previous two years. The Jets of 2010 and 2009 had a great defense, great running game, and great o-line. This year the defense is inconsistent, they don't have a real running game, and their offensive line has been swiss cheese.

Come on Kontra, sing it with me.
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Baby give it up
Give it up
Baby give it up
Can you give it
Can you give it
Give it up
In reality, it all hinges on Sanchez which is what would make a collapse so much sweeter. (Not that I have a problem with Sanchez, I actually love that he's in the division). But, it's all towards Rex and the team having to continue to publically support him or eat crow.

Kontra does have a point, though, in that it's still mathematically possible for the Green Beans to make a playoff run. We need to discipline ourselves to enjoy the coffin nails being applied one at a time.
Actually, we want the Jets to win next week. As of right now the Bills hold the tie-breaker over the Pats, while the Patriots hold it over the Jets, based on head-to-head.
In a perfect NFL world, the Dolphins will beat the Bills on Sunday and the Bills will beat the Jets next week.

I second this idyllic vision.

that is the key, they do not have the tiebreaker against Oak, Balt, Den and as 10-6 might not get you in the PO, 10-6 in a conference where you are behind in the tiebeakers is going to be tough . . . unless they win out, they need some help, kind of like circa 2002 where like 100 things had to go just right in the last 3 weeks . ..
Gotta go with Bills over Jets, no matter the Bills record. The bottom line is that the division record means ziltch if we have the better record--and can we doubt that. (we might lose one more, but the bills will match that)
