On the other hand, Zappe has not made repeated mistakes. His game was exposed tonight, no doubt - he has limitations and flaws he must work on. But, I didn't see repeated errors, and many of his positive traits - pocket presence, poise, accuracy, arm zip - were all still present despite some of his newfound struggles. If you roll with Zappe and he stinks it up, it feels a bit easier to say, "OK, Jones, give it a whirl again" than vice versa, considering how this has all transpired.
Completely agree. I think Zappe issue are fixable while Mac’s one are not.

The health excuses are not receivable since Mac ran all over the place. Physically he was fine. If Mac was the undisputed starter why did Bill planned to play both while Max was in good enough shape That make no sense.

He benched Mac tonight. Imo you can’t make him the starter again. You have to ride Zappe. If Zappe sucks then it’s easy to put Mac back in. But if you start Mac again and he is bad again against the Jets what do you do? You bench him after a quarter again?

That’s the reasons I would go with Zappe. But Bill need to choose a starter and stick with himfor better or worse.

For all the positive memories of Jones under McDaniels - and it was certainly a good combo - I personally would really love to see Zappe OC'ed by Josh.

Those two - even more than Jones, just from a skillset perspective - feels like it could be a match made in heaven. But that's neither here nor there at the moment.

Something that I've thought about: The fact Jones was benched - and benched rather quickly - to me indicates that Belichick concluded before the game that he was willing to sit Jones if he performed poorly. The leash was shortened to be sure. That, in and of itself, means something.

Whether it's because Belichick doesn't like the turnovers and wants to win games, or because Jones is making repeated mistakes, or because he likes Zappe, or any other number of reasons, he ultimately decided that he was willing to sit Jones, quickly, if circumstances went a certain way.

I have a hard time seeing Belichick reach that conclusion, have that hypothetical play out, only to turn around and reinsert Jones as the de facto starter moving forward.

You seriously think Joe Judge is the man to address these fixable issues? Just like he fixed Daniel Jones? Give Judge, Patricia and Co another couple of weeks with Zappe and he'll be throwing ints every quarter. Bad play starts with bad coaching at the NFL level. These are all elite players. If they're not performing start with the coaching and work backwards.

I really had hopes that we would spend our top 2 picks on OT and LB.
If the Zappites are all in on 6'1" QBs you could take Sam Hartman of Wake Forest in the later rounds. Basically a better version of Zappe who has consistently performed for a top 25 Demons.

Mac Jones under Josh McDaniels: Serviceable QB
Daniel Jones under Joe Judge: Dumpster fire
Mac Jones under Joe Judge: Dumpster fire
Daniel Jones under Brian Daboll: Serviceable QB

Maybe we need to look at the coaching.
The Homers would disagree with your factual statements.

I think we have to get creative and move or roll the pocket some with Zappe. He's not going to be able to throw consistently over those Big DLinemen.

I think smaller QBs can succeed but they have to be mobile and the absolute elite in College i.e. Kyler Murray, Bryce Young (projected top 2 pick). Failing that go with the flow of 6'4" and mobile. Pats being Pats will try to plough their own furrow but perhaps those days are over. The NFL could be leaving us behind.

Zappe didn't exactly cover himself in glory. Did nothing the second half, had 5 tips in a row a fumble and 2 interceptions. How bill handled this makes no sense.

I think we should go with Zappe from here on out. I have seen enough of mooon ball Mac he's not the answer sorry Homers.
Zappe makes quick decisions and throws the ball on time. That said, he has a weird release

Anyway to hire Sean Payton as a consultant but pay him like a head coach?
Could we please also write Scar a blank check?
I also think Flores or Boyer would be better at Coach than Steve Belichick.
However I saw a defense that didn’t want to get physical with the bears o like that didn’t want to hit fields.
My friend couldn’t understand why the Pats wouldn’t pop fields even if it lead to a cheap 15 you show him he doesn’t want to run that play anymore.
He’s on the sideline laughing and jawing knowing Judon was the only one who came to play on D.
That to me is a bigger issue.
Now the Bears defended their past coach’s record and you have to take your hats off about that. What does that say about our team who had to know what BB was chasing and laid down.
This might have been the worst coached game the Pats have had since the wild cat Dolphin disaster.
We need to improve the D Line and the toughness and speed at linebacker. Tomorrow.
Is it me or is Devin Mccourty cooked.
It will hurt to see Mccourty and Slater retired at the end of the year but it has to happen.
Have we seen anything from free agent Jabrill Peppers this season? I thought linebacker safety hybrid flying and hitting people.
I’m not seeing it.
Burn it all down rebuild and fix this defense.
I would write now go get Chubb or Burns and Daron Payne.
Or Suh this D needs attitude and personality.

“Nothing” in the 2nd half? He made some quality throws and moved the ball a bit.

“5 tips in a row”? Not quite.

The fumble appeared to be on Meyers who took his eye off the ball.

Zappe was far from perfect but I think this a bit hyperbolic.

Hard even for BB homers to disagree. Replacing McDaniels with Patricia/Judge was a monumental act of arrogance and misguided loyalty by BB.

By all accounts the offensive play calling has been pretty good. We have analyses showing as much.

One flukey game under the most ridiculous of circumstances doesn’t change what has happened so far most of this season.

People are prisoner’s of the moment. The defense was a much bigger issue than the offense last night.

To be totally candid, it seems a lot of the people griping about the offensive play-calling are doing so in the context of attempting to explain/excuse Jones’ poor play this season.

He did not play well but the batted balls were only a problem in this game. I want to see him play more and see if he can work around it.

Zappe has played 3.5 games and people want to set in stone that he can never get better. While at the same time ignoring the large sample size of bad games that Mac has and continue to tell he needs to play more so we can see if he can get better. Find the logic!

Since the colts game, Mac has been bad, borderline awful with his only good game being against the Jaguars which had 20 players on the Covid list and could barely field an NFL team.

I expect Mac to be back at QB this week. Did he look good, no, but Zappe didn't do anything to distinguish himself after the first two series which he took over in Bears territory. It also didn't help that Trent Brown played the worst game of his career either.
