What grade would you give Drake Maye for his rookie season? Since the last game is irrelevant we can probably do this poll now.

For a rookie I’d give him a B maybe B+ if I’m generous. Too many turnovers so he’s got to fix that. Especially the fumbles/strip sacks. That bothers me more than the ints. To me a rookie interception is a teaching moment- you learn what you will and won’t get away with in the NFL- but a strip sack should be avoidable.

Considering the lack of talent around him and the fact the offense looked better with him than without it’s a good start. The potential isn’t hard to see. The kid also seems to already be a leader. I also think he has the reins on him.

Still has some work to do but I’m optimistic we have our guy. Looking forward to his second year jump with a better team around him.

I'm probably more down on him than most (and I do like him and see the potential). He has flashes of skills that are hard to develop, such as seeing the entire field, good accuracy both on and off-platform, and quick-enough processing most of the time. That said, he averaged under 200 yards per game, had more total turnovers than touchdowns, took too many unnecessary hits/sacks when he could have thrown the ball away or slid sooner, and managed to win a grand total of two games, one of which was questionably deserved. That's not exactly encouraging to me. I can't grade him above a C+/B- for the season, even considering that he was a rookie with the worst OL in the NFL and bottom-five receiving corp. He's got to clean up the turnovers and hero-plays-gone-wrong.

That doesn't mean I want to replace him, or that I don't think he's capable of becoming a winning QB. Josh Allen comes to mind as a guy with similar faults who's managed to develop his game and become a perennial pro bowler and even MVP candidate. I think that he desperately needs good coaching, better pass protection, and more talented receivers if he's ever going to rise above .500, let alone sniff the playoffs.

Please don't think I'm attacking him or anyone that holds him in high regard. I simply see warning signs and lack of polish in his game. It's all correctable, but I don't have a lot of faith in our current regime to make the necessary changes. I hope I'm wrong.

Hard to say, on one hand there is plenty to be excited about, he made some truly elite throws, showed poise and calm beyond his years, and was often the lone bright spot on an otherwise forgettable offense. On the other how many games in a row did he throw a pick, or not win games? Yes the team around him, especially the offensive line was horrific, but elite QB’s are worth 4-6 wins all on their own. I voted a B, enough things that still need to be cleaned up and worked on, while acknowledging the circumstances sucked and he realistically did about as well as he could have.

Dang. Voted F. I was looking for a triple Z for Mayo when I realized the poll was for Maye. Gave him a B. Should have B+.

Gave an A. The guy made things happen with the same hapless group that got JB benched. As soon as he was in - things were possible on the O side of the ball. Third downs were less desperate, crazy plays would sometimes occur. It was magic.

This is a guy who supposedly needed time & work. While he did play like a rookie at times, I’d say he knew what to do with the ball and had a good understanding of the playbook.

Talent, composure, effort. That’s an A.

I hope he hires a qb coach for the offseason. Keep working on his footwork and studying film. He probably will or already has.

I would love to see him add ten to fifteen pounds of muscle over the next few years. It shouldn’t be too difficult for him and he’d be a beast to take down. I think he’s been great this year considering what he had to work with. His interceptions are usually communication issues which is to be expected for a young rookie especially with this disaster of a team.

He’s really the only reason to feel good about this team at all.

C

Can throw well.
Can move well.
Can make bad decisions.
Concerned about concussions already.
Shows promise

I said B to B+. Like B+-. If a B- is an 86 and a B+ is a 93 then he gets an 89.5.

He has potential. Two examples are the TD throw against the Chargers with a rusher in his face and how he can easily pick up chunk yards with his feet as ease when the pass rush over pursues. Defenses will have to think twice in 2025. However, he tends to disappear after that. Needs to protect himself better when in the open field to reduce unnecessary hits to the head.

There are concerns through. He is 2-9 (which people continually ignore), and one of those wins came from Brissett assisting when Maye left losing the game against the Jets. The only team that had a winning record in these games were LA Chargers/Rams and Buffalo.

With that said, I fear he's going to go down a bad path if Bob makes the decision to bring Mayo back. He needs some good coaching and a better system in place. Wolf and Mayo don't seem to know what they are doing especially signing all of Bill's draft picks Mayo **** on earlier this season.

I gave him a C.

C. Not winning games all by himself. He cannot throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time.

I'll give him a B+. He did what you want a rookie QB to do and showed elite level potential. He also made some rookie mistakes but given the cast, a little hero ball under pressure is pretty understandable. I'd consider giving him an A, but there were situations where he threw boneheaded picks in times he didn't need to be so reckless and it killed any chance of winning and that combined with the reality that he only really led us to a single win while he played the majority of the game is tough to overlook. So for that I'm going to keep him in the B range. Tons of potential, but there are plenty of areas to improve.

B

Looks good with bad coaching and no skill players around him. Strong for a rookie. Looking forward to next year

He is never going to get to A+ with the current cast and dreadful coaching. 24 year old Tom Brady wouldn't do it. 23 year old Mahomes wouldn't. No QB would. As far as physical traits, there isn't a throw he can't make. He can run. Needs to improve clutchness gene and turnovers. Brady won alot because he's the best two minute QB ever and didn't turn it over.

B-/C+ is fair but boy were the cards stacked against him. His supporting cast has been so putrid, I feel like he deserves a grade on Incomplete. He needs more support and like you, I don’t feel with the current staff that he is going to get it.

In his first 3 years, Brady fumbled the ball 12, 11 & 13x. There’s still hope for Maye yet.

This is why we was on the bench. He was supposed to redshirt this year. Until Mayo got desperate for a win.
