If the standard is being as good as Tom Brady, well...it's not happening. If the standard is being in the top 5 QB range, that is attainable. With hard work and competent coaching.

B

It's very rare a rookie QB is great his 1st year and he had forces working against him such as the horrible O-line, questionable coaching, and inadequate WRs he had to throw, to he did pretty well.

All things considered he did what he was supposed to do which was to show promise, generate some interest, and produce. Almost 2700yds of offense and 17 TDs isn't shabby.

Gave him a A just because he had to deal with this brain trust.

A-

Maye was brought in too early, had no protction, the worst weapons in the league, on the worst team in the league, with a cluster**** of a power structure and locker room that might have quit, and has looked like the best thing we've seen since 2019.

Maye's rookie year has been a best case scenario, despite the team being a worst case scenario.

I gave him an A. The reason being that he's had essentially a Horrible OL (who not only can't pass-protect, but can't run-block either, and a RB that can't seem to not fumble away the ball), Horrible WR's, Horrible Coaching Staff, and he didn't start until after a half dozen games. And yet, despite the mistakes that even "Generational" talents at QB usually make as Rookie QB's, he's been the only positive in this teams offense in-specific, and along with Gonzo, the entire team in-general. Additionally, he's shown exceptional poise and maturity under extremely adverse conditions. In fact, compare his Press Conferences as a 22 year old Rookie to Mayo's Press Conferences. What else does that tell you about him (and about Mayo)?

Pro’s
He made something out of a boneyard Offense
Elevates players around him
Unreal physical skills
Unlimited potential
Great kid
Con’s
Too many boneheaded plays
Better learn to slide
Int’s and fumbles are way too often
I know he is trying to carry the team and make something out of nothing
Those are bad habit’s and need to be corrected

I’m going with a very close a- to b+. The difference between him and Mac, Cam, Jalopy is enormous and he was at times this year able to put the team on his shoulders and carried them a bit. Something the other names mentioned could not do. Only knock on him is the usual rook mistakes, interceptions mainly. I hope he only gets better. I don’t think he’s as fragile as Mac that’s for sure. If he cleans up the rookie mistakes we are golden.

In what context?

As a rookie in general? A-
As a rookie who everyone agreed was raw? A
As a QB in general? B to B- considering how bad his cast is.

I would need to see a list and really think about it. But top of my head. He was a bit outside a top 10 QB this year, but better than average. Probably the 11-13 range?

no D for Drake? Maye gets an Aaayyee…

B

I can’t say it any better than most of the folks have already in this thread. Shows great talent including proficiency in a few areas in which there were concerns expressed about him in last year’s evaluation process, but too many errors to merit an A. He needs to try to avoid big hits and “hero ball” plays.

I was going to type out a much more wordy post but you summed it up in three sentences

He has potential. Two examples are the TD throw against the Chargers with a rusher in his face and how he can easily pick up chunk yards with his feet as ease when the pass rush over pursues. Defenses will have to think twice in 2025. However, he tends to disappear after that. Needs to protect himself better when in the open field to reduce unnecessary hits to the head.

There are concerns through. He is 2-9 (which people continually ignore), and one of those wins came from Brissett assisting when Maye left losing the game against the Jets. The only team that had a winning record in these games were LA Chargers/Rams and Buffalo.

With that said, I fear he's going to go down a bad path if Bob makes the decision to bring Mayo back. He needs some good coaching and a better system in place. Wolf and Mayo don't seem to know what they are doing especially signing all of Bill's draft picks Mayo **** on earlier this season.

I gave him a C.
You're a tough Grader the 32nd Ranked Talent and Coaches around him didn't help. I give Drake Maye a B+.

He has some Bledsoe in him. Needs to cut that back asap.

What grade would you give Drake Maye for his rookie season? Since the last game is irrelevant we can probably do this poll now.
Solid B.. he's had to overcome coaching, his WRs. His defense.. and he still makes something out if nothing.

I would add OC too AVP is a very overrated OC with his Latteral passing Offense. So glad the Krafts are not on board with him.

I know brother.. your right.. I think we are stuck with AVP at least another season.. minimum... I think Covington is out.

As a rookie B+. As a starting QB, C+. His main problem apart from sucky blocking and coaching, is a propensity to hurry his play as a result, missing wide open guys. He can be great, or he can be Drew as someone noted earlier.

That's true. Drew had better coaching and more to work with than Drake has as a rookie.. but Drake has to play with semi-pro tackles and a paper air plane defense. Wven when Drake has done enough the win the defense just let's him down. As a rookie Drake has been very impressive all things considered on and off the field.
