* Ye Olde 2013 Mock Draft Thread!! *

ok here's my mock draft for 2013

First off, trade pick 28-32 depending on where we end up to the Buffalo Bills for their pick at 40 and theyre pick at 104 and 2014 5th. So our first for 2013 2nd, 4th and 2014 5th

Ok so now at number 40

Shariff Floyd DT Florida

BB loves Florida players and the Pats need another DT

Now at pick 64

Quinton Patton WR Louisiana Tech/ Alternative John Simon OLB Ohio State

My 2013 binky of the draft versatile and was the main part of Louisiana Tech FBS leading offense

Pick 96

Tharold Simon CB LSU

slightly bigger cornerback many comparisons to Richard Sherman gives us depth and gives us another option if Talib or Dennard gets hurt or if we dont resign Talib

Pick 104

Brian Winters OT Kent State

much love for Brian Winters on this board

Round 7 first pick #204

Terron Armstead OT/ Tyrann Mathieu CB

currently ranked in the 7th round but could be rising for now hes my pick here but if he rises Tyrann Mathieu CB

Round 7 2nd pick

Cooper Taylor SS Richmond/ Gilbert Pena DT Ole Miss

Im not sure which one id pick i would have them pretty even Cooper Taylor could develop for a year or two and Gilbert Pena could help immediately. I like both and would be happy with both

2013 UDFA
All ranked lower than 254
Mike Catapano
Kapron Lewis Moore
Nigel Malone
Matt Stankiewitch
Brandon Moore
Tom Wort
Dexter Mccoil
Quinton Dial
Stephon Jefferson
Garrett Gilkey
Caraun Reed

Very nice mock, I just don't see Armstead or Taylor going that late as things currently stand, but I'd be thrilled to get them.

yeah i went by were they were ranked on cbs and i originally said that an alternative to Brian Winters in the 4th could be Terron Armstead. I think we should really push for a trade with the Bills. They dont need to use their 8 on Nassib but probably want to pick up a pick at the end of the 1st to make sure they get him. there are too many teams that look like they will take a qb in the 2nd to be sure theyll get him.

Shane Hallum has a 3 rounder at draft countdown. Don't like our picks at all.

1.David Amerson - DB
2. Robert Woods - WR
3. Chris Faulk - T

Given his board, I'd prob go with;

1. Jon Cooper - G - Slide Connolly to C.
2. Markus Wheaton - WR - Oregon St
3. Tough call. Prob depends how next 2 games play out. If Hightower looks ok at lb, maybe Carradine. If not, maybe Hodges from PSU. Sucks not having many picks. Who would you guys take given his board?

In the first round, I'd run to the podium with Jonathan Cooper's name on my draft card in that scenario. Both Tavon Austin and Jesse Williams are within a few picks of our 2nd round pick in Hallam's mock - unlikely but possible - and I'd try to trade up for one of them. Either would be great. Quinton Patton is also a few picks away in the 3rd round.

Also, the following are still on the board after 3 rounds in Hallam's mock:

- DB Tharold Simon, LSU
- OG Brian Winters, Kent St.
- OL Kyle Long, Oregon
- OT Reid Fragel, Ohio St.
- OT Menelik Watson, Florida St.
- DE Tank Carradine, Florida St.

But I think it's a pretty crappy mock, so I'd discount it. I don't consider it very realistic.

For me it would be:

1. Jonathan Cooper (I'd be miserable if he's on the board and we don't take him)

2. Robert Woods/Markus Wheaton (Woods is a good pick but Wheaton's my man)

3. Leon Mcfadden (Patriot leadership qualities and an outstanding cover corner).

Cooper, Woods, Carradine would tickle my fancy. Three first round values.

Faulk in the third would be fine if we lose Vollmer, and Wreh-Wilson would be fine if we lose Talib.

Could get behind those choices as well.

I love the 2nd and 3rd round possibilites in this draft.

The offense with Woods and Cooper would rival 2007's.

The only problem is I've found basically nothing on Faulk's knee injury. He was considered a first round tackle before the injury, but without any injury details he won't make into any mocks of mine.

I have a vision of Solder and Cooper lead blocking for Vereen/Woodhead/Welker/Hernandez/Demps ( ) on a screen and it's a bit like a wet dream.

Or go empty with Lloyd, Welker, Gronk, Hernandez, and Woods

I'd rather defend that pass any day. The set with 4 receivers and a rb like Vereen who can catch the ball is much more difficult to defend. Especially, with an immobile qb. You rush 3. Drop 8. Play man across with 3 deep.

It's just an example of packages you could run.

The Packers run lots of empty set and the only team that can contain it is the 49ers and even their depth gets tested. It's a matchup thing. It's not fair having the 4th CB covering Randall Cobb (GB's Welker).

Another set could be Hernandez, Ballard, the O line, and Gronk with Hoo-man and Vereen in the back. Basically the opposite, but still effective.

My mock with our current picks. This is my first mock ever. What do you guys think?

1. Kawann Short, DT, Purdue
-Short is a beast with great production and great size at 6'3 315. Great strength and hand usage. He is unblockable, makes a lot of plays behind the line of scrimmage and is arguably the best pass rushing DT in this draft.

2. DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Clemson
-6'1 realiable receiver with great hands. Really steps up in the big games.

3. Devonte Holloman, OLB, South Carolina
-Former safety who has the speed and coverage skills of a safety but is also a great tackler and very physical.

7. Dexter McCoil, S, Tulsa
-Major sleeper. This guy is great in coverage, great in run support. 6'4. Interception machine.

7. Quanterus Smith, DE, Western Kentucky
-Pure pass rusher. Was leading college football in sacks this year until he tore his ACL. Puts constant pressure on the QB. Also had 3 sacks against Bama.

I like the direction you're going. I think Hopkins is a first or early 2nd though. I like getting a wr at 62. A couple of board favorites are Patton and Wheaton. Holloman is the type of olb I'm looking for. Because, I see Hightower being that flex end that Ninko's playing in the future. I'm curious about his 40 time. I know he's a former safety, but don't think he was asked to cover much after moving to lb.

I think the loss to the Ravens highlighted 3 areas in which we have personnel deficiencies. I have said for 3 years I think we need more depth at WR and once again that was exposed in a big game. I have been a little disapointed with Lloyd this year, although he has had his moments. I just don't think he has gotten open enough down the field or over the middle to make an impact. I also don't like the amount of time he spends on the ground. I get the feeling he tries to make a catch look good that trying to get YAC. I think we need at least 2 WR's, (3 if we don't re-sign Welker). I have always had a preference for bigger receivers, but I think now we need a play-making WR and a big, physical WR.

Another weakness I saw was the safety play, especially Gregory. I'll give the CB's some slack because of Dowling going on IR and Talib having injury issues. I also think McCourty will develop with a full offseason and training camp as a Safety. But I think the other starting spot definitely needs to be upgraded and I think the lack of confidence in our safeties has had a major impact on our defense. I think a lack of confidence/trust in the back of the secondary means we are forced to play a much more conservative defensive style with less room for exotic blitzes because we are forced to keep two guys back. I think a playmaking safety would do wonders for this defense.

The 3rd area I think we need to improve for next season is the defensive front 4. We simply haven't been able to get consistent pressure with just 4 guys, especially when Chandler Jones was out of the lineup. I love Ninko but I think he's most valuable using his versatility rather than just a pure down DE. We also need more pressure from the interior DL, especially on 3rd down where we have had trouble.

Having said that, this is what I would like to see with the draft and free agency right now.

Re-Sign
WR- Welker
CB- Talib
RT- Vollmer
WR- Edelman

Sign
DL- Armond Armstead

I think this is the key move as a guy who can play as a base 4-3 DE and move inside on passing downs. Everyone wants this guy so I would pay to make sure we get him.

Trades
1(29) to Minn for 2(52) + 3(83) + 4(117)

Could really be any team around that area, Minny just matches up points wise and has and extra 4th.

3(91) to Cle for 4(101) + 5(132)
Just maneuvering for an extra pick

2(52)- WR- Justin Hunter- Tennessee (53- CBS)
Normally I don't go for the raw, high upside WR, but if Hunter is available in the mid 2nd I would jump all over him. He has the highest athletic upside of any WR since Calvin Johnson, and has an elite combination of speed, length and ball skills. His style reminds me of a combination of AJ Green and Randy Moss (I said style not comparing skills) and the way he attacks the ball down the field reminds me of Torrey Smith. He is only a year removed from a serious knee injury so he still isn't back to 100% yet, but his upside is immense. He can certainly be the deep threat people have been calling for for years, but could also be so much more. This is a deep WR class so I would also be happy with Terrence Williams or Cordarrelle Patterson here.

2(59)- WR- Da'Rick Rogers- Tennessee Tech (59)
This is assuming his character checks out, if not I also really like Markus Wheaton, Robert Woods or a small trade back for Cobi Hamilton. Rogers is the physical target I would like to see us add on the outside to add some toughness to our WR core. I love his route versatility and competitiveness on the field. He is a real football guy so I think he could really benefit from being part of this Organization.

3(83)- DT- Bennie Logan- LSU (131)
Should definitely be rated higher than 131 (CBS) so I will put him here. Its a deep DT class so he could fall, if so he would be a steal here. He is very strong against the run despite his average size, but he has a strong anchor and uses his hands well. He has long arms and is able to keep lineman away from his body and has violent hands to disengage to make a play. As a pass rusher he is still untapped potential, but there is some skill there.

4(101)- S- TJ McDonald- USC (105)
Last year he was a fringe 1st round talent, now I think he is one of the most underrated players in the draft. One thing that really annoys me is blanked comparisons of player just because they played for the same team. McDonald gets the Taylor Mays comparison all the time and I don't think that is fair. The are both big, athletic hitters, but McDonald is so much more than that. He is the leader of the USC defense and was named Team Captain as a Junior. He has a good pedigree (Father Tim was a 6 time All Pro Safety) and is very instinctive and experienced. I love his play-making ability, although he will need to play with more control in the NFL (he has had a few helmet to helmet penalties the last 2 years). Overall I love this kid and what he could bring to this defense.

4(117)- OL- Terron Armstead- Arkansas-Pine Bluff (178)
Okay, I'm sold. Obviously a favorite on here and I can see why. Love not only his athletic ability, but he seems to have very good fundamentals. I don't think you could ask for a better blank canvas to give to Dante. I think he has potential as both a OT and OG.

5(132)- TE- Michael Williams- Alabama (193)
Gotta fit my Binkie in there. I really like Hoomawa.... but I think Williams would be a solid upgrade. I've already given my opinion on Williams a thousand times so I won't bore you anymore.

7(202)- DL- Damion Square- Alabama (533)
Another binkie, I think Square has an NFL future. I like him as a base LE while shifting inside on passing downs. At worst he is camp depth and competition on the DL.

7(219)- LB- Kenny Tate- Maryland (340)
A former board binkie that has really been hit by injury the last few years. Why not take a shot late in the 7th.

I am also banking on the development of some of our young guys. I hope Jones, Hightower and Dennard can continue to develop and avoid a sophmore slump. I am also looking for Bequette, Dowling and Francis to step up and contribute. I have been a big fan of Marcus Forston for many years and if he can stay healthy and live up to his potential, he could be a very good interior sub rusher for us.

not a bad mockid rather go for terrance williams or quinton patton then justin hunter but thats just me i like rogers and i also like bennie logan definitely some nice picks

I really like Terrence Williams as well, but its hard to pass on Hunters upside. Its scary how good he could potentially be once he is back to 100% and adds a little bulk. I'm not really a fan of Quinton Patton (I know he is your guy). He is great going vertically and tracks the deep ball well, but I just didn't see the route versatility from him. All the games I watched of him it seemed he either ran a deep route or caught a screen. I would have liked to have seen some breaking routes and more short/intermediate stuff over the middle. I'm not saying he isn't talented, I just didn't see enough out of him to warrant more that a 3rd/4th round grade.

fair enough and yeah patton is my guy haha wouldnt mind either williams or hunter either way it just seems like weve been drafting in pairs TE's Rb's and maybe now WR's especially with Daboli back

I'm leaning towards improving the front four and getting a wr. We'll just have to make do without premium picks on the OL. Hell, Baltimore beat us bringing McKinnie off of the scrap heap. Giants started David Diehl at LT. Really?? Sure, I'd like to improve the secondary. But, do you have any confidence we know how to shop for the groceries back there? I don't. We do a good job of drafting DL and are going to have to get a bigger WR with some speed. Gonna be hard to accomplish it all.

Keep in Order
1. Wes Welker - WR
2. Aqib Talib - CB
3. S. Vollmer - RT - I have more confidence in M. Cannon than many here. Love Seabass. But, if it comes to Welker, Talib or him. How do you say good-bye in German?

As brother Wilfork mentioned. We're going to have to get improvement from within. I do think Chandler Jones and Dante Hightower are players. Very impressed with Dennard too.

Justin Francis and Tavon Wilson had their moments. That's why I didn't draft DE or S. They might improve. Bequette hasn't shown anything yet. But, he's in the DE mix too. Maybe, Armstead wins job. Hoping a full off-season of McCourty at FS brings up the play of Wilson and/or compliments Gregory(Who is limited. Not enough range for a FS or tough enough for SS)

Not as optimistic about Dowling. That's why I have Talib such a priority. And, want a corner in the third. Need depth there. If Dowling can play. Awesome. If not. Hope the rookie can go and provide depth.

On offense, hope Wheaton makes an immediate impact. Scar is gonna have to work his magic if we lose Seabass. Marcus Cannon will have to be his pet project.

Maybe, Lombardi throws us a lifeline with the Mallett rumor. Hard to project something that hasn't happened yet. Things change dramatically if we pick 6th. I'm still thinking defensive line though. Bigger and tougher.

I haven't read through all of these mock pages and or seen reports on when he might go but where is Barrett Jones slated to go? He would be my pick if he isn't going really high. Usually inside O-lineman don't go as high as skilled players or LT's. He is extremely smart, can play both C and G and would give us flexibility on the line. Seeing as i haven't seen much in the last page or so of this thread I believe he will either go too high for us or people just don't want to draft an interior lineman.
