Re: What the F***...Samari Rolle

The Rolle was acting like a CHILD, a male child is sometimes referred to as a boy. A ref or a coach 20 years senior of player calling a player a boy is okay in my book. Or would you have half the Carolina Panthers suspended for calling Vinny Testaverde "pop" or "grandpa."

Sure, because clearly the ref was just being affectionate and teasing Rolle when he called him "boy" like Vinny's Panther teammates are in calling him "granpa."

Again, the NFL I'm sure will talk to this official about it. Do you think this is the first time officials have had to endure sh*t from players? They have to be above that, I'm sure the league does not want to encourage their officials to trash talk players back. It's dumb and unprofessional.

Re: What the F***...Samari Rolle

okay, so it's dumb and unprofessional.

however, so were rolle's comments, and no one's talking about disciplining him. why should the players be able to say whatever they want to the refs, if the refs can get in trouble for something that's barely even an insult?

From what I have heard, the Ravens were trash talking and being mouthy ALL DAY to the officials..THAT is a problem no one has really talked about at all...maybe they should call flags MORE for that?? Maybe THAT will shut up the big mouths like Rolle, Scott and such...and on that...why was Scott not ejected?? I think in MOST cases any player doing that would have been...

Christ what b!tches. They mouth off and spout off all game. Make comments to the ref about not knowing anything about the game because he never put on a helmet, when in fact the guy played in the NFL in the 70's and 80's, and then whine about being called "boy" by an older black man?

Sure the ref probably should have used better judgement and been more professional and not said anything, but that would make him a far better person than I if he could have done that. They were acting childishly and apparently the ref called him out for it. BFD.

Re: What the F***..Samari Rolle

Rolle was probably mouthing off to the official being a little jackass. I doubt the ref would clal him a boy unless Rolle started shooting his mouth and being completely immature.
I think we have BINGO! We have seen refs/umpires return favors this year, remember giving is just as good as receiving. There is little doubt taken in account the reactions of the Ravens in the last minutes that some of them would not be immune to trash talking the refs. Now, you take the ref in question (6'6'' former NFL player) and tell me he isn't going to return some remark? The league should ask Rolle if he made comments to the ref prior to the 'boy' comments. I'm not saying the ref was right, just that there probably was contributing factors.

Re: What the F***..Samari Rolle

sorry about swearword in title....just didnt get it...

No sweat. Since this has turned into a slur/derogatory word discussion I had more of a problem with the word "******" than "WTF" in the title.

Just because something can be a racial slur, doesn't mean it is:
1. A white man calling a black man a boy can be a racial slur back to the days of slavery
2. A white man calling a black man a boy can also be a case of the white man saying the black man is acting like a child

Many Words/phrases have multiple meanings, and an intelligent person would try to determine the intended usage based on the context; not take it out of context (which unfortunately the media does all too often) and then apply the worst-case meaning to it.

In this case, given that I doubt a black NFL official would use racism towards his own race; And given the way the Raven's players were whining; just like boys whine when they don't get the toy or candy they wants; I think the "acting like a child" meaning was probably the way in which it was said.

Not only that but Samari Rolle didn't take it as racial, his complaint was "I have a wife and three kids. Don't call me a boy. Don't call me a boy on the field during a game because I said, 'You've never played football before.'"

He clearly took as the ref calling him childish. And given that the refs had been telling both teams to act mature though out the game the statements by the refs were not trash talking.

The ref who allegedly made the "boy" remark is BLACK. These athletes sure are sensitive. Boo Hoo he called me a boy. GFY Samari!
