Would you trade for Josh Gordon?

People keep talking about Gordon, and even too I/WE would love to have him, I doubt we will. But after tonights jets win at falcons, mayby a trade for Tony G could be made..
Not now, but if they fall to 2-7 etc and wont make playoff, then i could see Bill and Thomas talk about a deal, so the old man can have a last chance to win the big thing. He ONLY retruned in the hope for another long playoff run, but if they are knocked out early a trade / deal could be made.

Tony unlike Gordon wont cost a second rounder, but boost us big time shortly. It would give the rookies a Little more time to get up to speed WITHOUT sacrificeing playing time for them ( mainly Dobson ).

Dola, Gonzalez, Gronk and Dobson, with Hooman, Edelman and Thomkins as backups.

Folks, smarter and harder working vet WR's couldn't learn the Patriots route tree mid season. What gives anyone ANY indication this Gordon kid can?

Gonzo is a far better option and would cost less.

I think Mallett and a 3rd makes a ton of sense for both teams. Ryan can go play for the Browns for the rest of the year and you see what you have. And NE gets a stud in Gordon. Saves them a round in terms of picks to give up their QB.

This is the closest thing I've ever seen to a realistic Mallett trade but with Hoyer's performance for the Browns I'm not sure they'd want Mallett at this point. Yeah Hoyer's done for the year but they're probably better off trading Gordon *somewhere* for more than a Pat's 3rd and a QB who will take a while to pick up the system and is a FA in what, 18 months?

Here's the thing though, they're winning games and have a legitimate at the play-offs as of right now. It'll take some time for Mallett to get acclimated sure, but you'll have a QB for a year a half. You can see what you have in him and still pick a QB allowing the drafted QB to have time to develop. Obviously Lomardi is a big fan of Mallett and can go and get his guy. They'll have a bunch of picks in the first two days of the draft, and a QB to keep them relevant.

From the Pats perspective, it's obvious that they get a stud WR for a back-up QB a pick. With Gronk/Amendola healthy, that wouldn't be a bad unit. They issue would be finding a back-up QB, but that would be a problem for another day. I mean they could bring another guy they released back.

I'm intrigued at the thought of someone like Gonzalez on the team, so I'd agree with you there. I don't think we'd see it happen, but he's the guy we'd all want to see and one who could likely immediately step in on some level and contribute.

Your last sentence doesn't seem too right though, especially since Thompkins has been far better than Dobson from day one through spring and summer camps.

There'd be no reason whatsover to have Kenbrell Thompkins as a backup while Aaron Dobson would somehow start over him. If it were even close, common sense states that the team would have much rather leaned towards the upside of Dobson over Thompkins. At this point in time Dobson is still far behind Thompkins, who had picked up the system far better and offers us a replacement to Brandon Llyod as the WR2.

I'm not sure that I'd hold my breath. He broke his foot after the combine and hasn't participated in any of the spring or summer drills, so his knowledge of the playbook/chemistry is likely to be extremely limited.

He was put on the NFI list, not the PUP list--just for what it's worth.

I've been one that has likened his chances to being better than bringing some outsider in, but I didn't initially realize that he hadn't taken part in any of the sessions when I made the comment.

If Harrison puts on another 15 to 20 pounds in the offseason (taking him to 245-250), he would be an interesting candidate to replace Hernandez's H-Back/TE role in New England. Naturally, we would need to see a lot more but the concept itself intrigues me.

Hell, I'd give the Browns picks 1, 2 & Mallett for Phil Taylor and Josh Gordon at this point of the season. Also, I realise the Madden pie in the sky nature of that trade.

The only reason I'd do that is I'm not sure the Patriots will improve their DT/NT position through the draft. Outside of Nix, I've soured a little on this draft class.

Just been re-watching McCullers. Starting to think he'll be the guy. He could be lights out if he's coached to come off the ball lower. Watch him against Georgia. really impressed me.

Collie came from a similar system (the verbiage was obviously different) and has been spending 3 hours a day with Chad O'Shea and Tom Brady attempting to pick up the system enough to see the field every now and then, and that's been going on for THREE weeks so far. I'd have to assume that if we traded for a good receiver, it'd take quite awhile for him to be able to contribute--or even line up in the right place.

Personally I'd take him late 1st and I'd be surprised if he fell out of the top 40. However, I think he's potentially surprisingly athletic and if he put in a sub 5.00 40 or just above, then I could see him Dontari Poe the draft. And FWIW, nfl draft scout has his 40 low as 4.98 so it's not altogether impossible.

It's Gordon's potential for a season long ban that terrifies me. And I agree with you about the difficulties integrating him.

That's why I made the disclaimer that it was a Madden trade supa. We're going to see just how good the Patriots depth is for the remainder of the season.

Yeah, I certainly know you well enough to realize that this was a hypothetical situation in a dream world and not meant to be taken too seriously.

I just figured that I'd point out that I'd love to have either player for a 3rd separately.

I probably should have left out the thoughts on giving up a 1, 2, + player would often be too much despite any player we'd be getting since it wasn't meant to be taken too seriously.

I wouldn't mind seeing another receiver added who has good upside, I just think it'd likely happen in the offseason.

If we were to add someone else right now, I think it'd be a guy who'd have a low risk/higher reward type guy who wouldn't be expected to do too much. Kind of a guy like Austin Collie etc. It he works, he works. If he doesn't, it's not that big of a deal.

Cassel's been demoted to 3rd string because of the Freeman addition. If the Patriots can get Gordon for Mallett and Cassel for a low draft pick, the gamble of that lost year is only against one year of Mallett as a back up. That's a gamble I'd be more than comfortable with.

If it would cost Mallett and more, the "more" would need to be looked at.
