Wolf has final say on the roster

Read an article that quoted Wolf saying last year was problematic because they needed more time to be more thorough. What? More self-justification.
Some reporting these week painted a picture that Mayo and Glaser were both total idiots and Wolf was spending tons of time just putting out fires that they were starting, especially early on. I don't know if that's true but if it is, then I have to imagine the transition to Vrabel and removal of Glaser helps him significantly.

I don't think Wolf has given us a lot of reason to think he's amazing, but I also have a hard time really holding 2024 against him too much when he had these dimwits sandbagging him. One more free agency cycle, one more draft, and a year of competent coaching for the 2024 draft class to see how things shake out - then I will feel more confident judging the guy.

At this point I really don’t think we need any more articles about SilentTreatmentonTheSidelineHC and the high priced “HC Assistant Lawyer aka Admin/Scout/FutureGM were total idiots and in over their head with a really good dose of not being setup for success as the final blow /fatality…

That Mayo was out of his depth is pretty obvious.

But the evidence against Wolf is overwhelming.

1. Terrible recruitment in the off-season
2. Wastes $7 million on a backup quarterback who stares down his receivers and can't hit a barn door
3. Has his finger in the recruitment of coaches who did a terrible job (particularly his buddies on the offense).
4. Has an almost completely terrible draft.
5. Yes, he drafts Drake Maye. The Pats needed a QB and there were three top-ranked QBs. Maye was the last one left and he drafted him. That's like going to buy a luxury car and there are three in the lot, but the Merc and the Beamer go, so you drive off in a Lexus. Yes, sure, you could have bought a Hyundai and had money left over for a pickup, but we all know that a starting quarterback is the most important and difficult-to-find player on a team.
6. He cuts and brings in players over the course of the season who offer no significant improvement.

And now there are leaks that Mayo and Glaser were the problem, not Eliot. I wonder where those rumours might have come from. Cui bono?, as the lawyers say!

If Mayo deserved to get booted after one season, the case against Wolf is far stronger.

No you don't. So why assume that it is true when there is so much evidence that Wolf did a terrible job on those things that he and no one else had responsibility for and is now spin-doctoring to shove the blame onto Mayo and Glaser?

This is preposterous. Sandbagging him? Come on. Are you serious? Even Wolf blamed himself for being terrible. WTF!

Did I say he's amazing? I said right in my post he hasn't given us any reason to think positively of him. I'm simply pointing out some factors that could have contributed to negative output.

Maybe he meant "tea-bagging".

No, you're being a "merchant of doubt" -- defending EW with the argument that "it's too soon to tell".

In a sense, but all I'm advocating is to see how this year goes. If it's not clearly good, dump him hardcore. I am thinking there's a chance they might just move on from him regardless after the draft and he's just been carried over to make it a smoother transition to the next regime.

That's just what I'm hoping. A Pats fan I know says that she thinks it's 60:40 that this is what is going to happen. My guess is 40:60. In any case, I think we have more than enough evidence already.

(What would you have done, Mike? I would have brought in independent experts to review things after last season. For example, I'd have got Scott Pioli to give his verdict on the Front Office. As it is, we, the fans, can only make our judgements from the outside.)

I think they brought in Vrabel and Cowden and Streicher, and those 3 guys are giving their earnest opinions on this front office. And we will see how it transforms over the summer, if it does. Pat Stewart leaving might be a sign.

So many TLDR HERE.. IT'S FKN PATHETIC..I can't even get a grip on our discussion.

This is a pretty simple discussion in reality.
You ****s make it difficult.

Bingo

The term "GM" needs to be fluid. You can have someone who owns the ops (scouting, cap, FA, etc) but they take direction from someone who owns the strategy and vision.

I think that is what Reid has in KC and what Vrabel has here.

This is how I see it as well. Vrabel puts the template for what he wants in front of them, they all set the board up, and Vrabel makes the final call. There is no way I see Wolf overruling Vrabel on final selection.

Yup. It’s a sign. I suspect somebody’s leaving soon.

Not if he wants to lose his job

It's not whether Wolf HAS been fired, but whether he OUGHT to be. The captain's language may be ... robust, but he is right.

Wolf's draft was terrible.

Oh, people say, that's because he hasn't had the time to implement his system.

But his free agency was terrible too. Not just pre-season free agency but during the season too -- compulsively swapping out one JAG lineman for another. How are you going to get the minimal amount of cohesion -- not killing drives with pre-snap penalties -- if you keep chopping and changing?

Oh, people say, you can't judge his players because of the terrible coaching they got.

But where did the terrible coaches come from? That NFL powerhouse the Browns gave you AVP and Peters and so on. And who brought them in? Eliot Wolf.

The only reason to keep Wolf is that it would be disruptive to remove him before the draft.

After that, Wolf must go!

Captain Stone has **** on every draft and free agency for over 20 years. He’s the Captain of the ship of Misery.

Nods…and some of us wouldn’t want it any other way.

I get the 'wait and see' approach.

To me, last season's free agency alone was enough to fire him. And to say he was satisfied with the offensive line going into the season...that's fireable too.
