Some reporting these week painted a picture that Mayo and Glaser were both total idiots and Wolf was spending tons of time just putting out fires that they were starting, especially early on.
That Mayo was out of his depth is pretty obvious.
But the evidence against Wolf is overwhelming.
1. Terrible recruitment in the off-season
2. Wastes $7 million on a backup quarterback who stares down his receivers and can't hit a barn door
3. Has his finger in the recruitment of coaches who did a terrible job (particularly his buddies on the offense).
4. Has an almost completely terrible draft.
5. Yes, he drafts Drake Maye. The Pats needed a QB and there were three top-ranked QBs. Maye was the last one left and he drafted him. That's like going to buy a luxury car and there are three in the lot, but the Merc and the Beamer go, so you drive off in a Lexus. Yes, sure, you could have bought a Hyundai and had money left over for a pickup, but we all know that a starting quarterback is the most important and difficult-to-find player on a team.
6. He cuts and brings in players over the course of the season who offer no significant improvement.
And now there are leaks that Mayo and Glaser were the problem, not Eliot. I wonder where those rumours might have come from. Cui bono?, as the lawyers say!
If Mayo deserved to get booted after one season, the case against Wolf is far stronger.
I don't know if that's true but if it is, then I have to imagine the transition to Vrabel and removal of Glaser helps him significantly.
I don't think Wolf has given us a lot of reason to think he's amazing, but I also have a hard time really holding 2024 against him too much when he had these dimwits sandbagging him. One more free agency cycle, one more draft, and a year of competent coaching for the 2024 draft class to see how things shake out - then I will feel more confident judging the guy.
No you don't. So why assume that it is true when there is so much evidence that Wolf did a terrible job on those things that he and no one else had responsibility for and is now spin-doctoring to shove the blame onto Mayo and Glaser?
