Will Campbell Watch

Question is if it is Injury, do we need to insert someone else in there til he is ready?

If he was just exposed? Is this a coachable correction or are we in trouble here?
Jumbo package on the pass plays... bring in westover, etc to block / chip / release into the flat if the pressure is too much moving forward

or burn some asses with quick passes / screens ... i get Maye likes to push the ball down the field, but getting the ball out quickly is the best defense to a strong pass rush

Looks at all the armchair left tackles here.... guy has been lights out all season long for us.

Last night, his first playoff game, going against on the best pass rushers in the league, and you guys all providing pointers and gems of wisdom. the guys is coming off an ankle injury, cut him some slack.

I blame more the o-line coaching who could seem to find a way to adjust. I'm not pretending to have the solution, just the expectation of our coaching staff to be able to find some sort of a solution mid-game, even if it's half-baked.
I wouldn't say he was lights out. His pros as a run blocker are obvious. He has been adequate as a pass blocker.

Is Campbell’s knee fully healed? And back at full strength?

I don’t know the protocols for MCL injuries, nor do I have any idea about what resources he would have available as a pro athlete and how those might modify the rehab plan. So I don’t know to what extent his conditioning might have been affected by his injury and the recovery time. The important question is whether he might have any strength deficit, either because of the injury itself or because his strength and conditioning routine had to be curtailed while he was recovering from the injury.

I’m sure he has some psychological impact from it, as he regains confidence in it.

Add in the possibility that he also had the flu and there’s a lot of potential physical factors that might have affected his performance tonight.

On top of that I think he was going against Khalil Mack at least part of the time tonight, and the rest of the Chargers pass rushers are pretty good too, so as a rookie Campbell had a big challenge apart from any physical issues.

I trust the coaching staff to evaluate his performance, and his physical condition, and make appropriate plans and decisions. But I’m also wondering if there might be lingering physical and mental issues that would make it a good idea to shut him down for the rest of the season, and plug Vederian Lowe back in at LT. I wouldn’t be terribly upset if the team chose to shut him down. Whether they shut him down or coach him up I think it’s clear that we need to see better OL play next week.

Not enough input to tell right now and I don't think it's worth sending in Lowe. That sends weird messaging that Vrabel has not given into all year. It's the kids first playoff game, he is coming back from injury, and is going up against some of the better pass rushers in the league.

I expect Maye to see an uptick in sacks as we run through these aggressive defenses in the AFC that have been winning entire seasons for their team. It'll be a bloody road to the SB.

Agree we don’t have enough to tell. Expect the team does.

If what the team knows indicates there’s a lingering knee issue messaging isn’t weird. He was on IR and returned. Just put him back on IR with a simple statement that he apparently aggravated his knee and is being shut down for this season to protect his future. NBD.

I agree, and I think what data we do have suggests this isn't the case. They were pretty adamant about shutting him down in the first place, I'd be surprised if they ran him back. This staff doesn't seem to F around with injuries.

That's just my guess, I could be wrong.

I recall some comments or rumors about the motivation for putting him on IR was to keep him from trying to play through it. I agree they seem good about protecting players from themselves. We can’t know the real condition of his knee so I’m just speculating.

As frustrating as it can be, you have to deal with growing pains when you have a rookie out there. And it's not going to get better if you don't play him. Getting that 'feel' as a blocker at this level takes live game reps.

Even Bruce Armstrong wasn't 'Bruce Armstrong' as a rookie. Hell, they started him at RT. He still needed time to get his feet under him.

Worst game of his career quite easily from what I saw
He did have a bad game
All players have bad games young or old
What I have learned and seen from this kid is he corrects his mistakes
That is what I expect moving forward
Should he have stayed in the game. YES

Agree, but is the playoffs where we want to have that trial by fire?

Well, we are giving him that trial by fire next. So we'll all see. So much of this game will depend on how the Pats OL does.

And if they need to consider shifting both Will and Wilson inside.

He sucked last night. Not exactly the day to parade around bleh’ing. I like the kid but whether it was not being 100% or short arms it doesn’t matter. He (and Wilson) just didn’t have it last night and it definitely helped throw things off.
No doubt he got worked.....hopefully he can learn from it and it won't be a regular thing.

Campbell struggled on Sunday. I’m in agreement. But it is absolutely f***ing hilarious that one bad game from Campbell, which was his first f***ing playoff game, now makes him league average. Some of you are too much to handle.

Yeah it’s absolutely f***ing hilarious that he has a bad game immediately after coming off the IR from a knee injury of unknown severity and some folks are shrugging it off as nothing, when it could be evidence the injury is still lingering. Some of you are just too much to believe.

KCSEVEN had it right, he didn't have a bad game. He got pushed back a couple of times by a HOF pass rusher, and Colinsworth made it sound like it happened all night. But no one here is actually going to do what KCSEVEN did and go back and watch Campbell on every play, especially when it's much easier to just buy into the popular narrative that he had a bad game." It's just like the pre draft process, where so many parroted the " his arms are too short" ********, when they had never even seen him play.

I’m confused here, I’m questioning those that are claiming Campbell is now a league average LT after one bad game after playing very well for the majority of the year. I agree that there is likely some lingering issues from the injury. Either way, Campbell is a very good LT and will only get better.
