Will Campbell Watch

But but but how can he be so good if his arms aro soooooo short? /s. Kids young and will only improve and possibly grow that extra length…

Oweh, Mack, and Tuipulotu is in an insane set of pass rushers to go against. Campbell will be better next week.

Anderson Jr, probably not. Hunter yes.
Anderson and Hunter were the best rushing duo this year being #1 and #2 in QB hurries and the only pair to both have double digit sacks. If we play Houston Campbell will need help.

McDaniels seems to do pretty good job of conditioning the offense to excel against strong pass rushes. It will have to be a very solid gameplan with focusing on lightening the load on the OL as much as possible through other means. A tough task nonetheless.

Was Campbell on the flu list this week?
Could that or just coming back off injury account for some in addition to facing real good DL

Campbell got run over (bull rushed). I assume with another year of strength conditioning and technique training he will be OK, but I don't really know because I am not experienced in these things.

He was handling bull rushes earlier in season, so maybe flu-weakness like I said contributed. But 2d year conditioning should help too. We also just need him next 4 weeks though.

Is Campbell’s knee fully healed? And back at full strength?

I don’t know the protocols for MCL injuries, nor do I have any idea about what resources he would have available as a pro athlete and how those might modify the rehab plan. So I don’t know to what extent his conditioning might have been affected by his injury and the recovery time. The important question is whether he might have any strength deficit, either because of the injury itself or because his strength and conditioning routine had to be curtailed while he was recovering from the injury.

I’m sure he has some psychological impact from it, as he regains confidence in it.

Add in the possibility that he also had the flu and there’s a lot of potential physical factors that might have affected his performance tonight.

On top of that I think he was going against Khalil Mack at least part of the time tonight, and the rest of the Chargers pass rushers are pretty good too, so as a rookie Campbell had a big challenge apart from any physical issues.

I trust the coaching staff to evaluate his performance, and his physical condition, and make appropriate plans and decisions. But I’m also wondering if there might be lingering physical and mental issues that would make it a good idea to shut him down for the rest of the season, and plug Vederian Lowe back in at LT. I wouldn’t be terribly upset if the team chose to shut him down. Whether they shut him down or coach him up I think it’s clear that we need to see better OL play next week.

Do we really? Or would Lowe be what we need? If Campbell is hitting the rookie wall, exacerbated by his injury, do we really need him to be playing for the next three games?

Thing is, we really need the best LT play we can possibly get for the next three games. Off season strength and conditioning work isn’t going to be any help in those three games.

Man, Maye got killed few times today. The left side of the o-line is a liability. I don’t want to see the Texans because they will have a field day if these guys don’t improve.

Short arms can definitely play a factor. Generally I favor a shorter guy with longer arms. An extra half second makes a huge difference. Anyways, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt being sick and also coming back from injury. But they gotta figure things out because there are some killer rushers in the playoffs.

Campbell didn’t look 100% back tbh. He is coming off an injury. And maybe he was sick this week with flu and still is feeling the effects. Explains why he left right away. Rest up big guy we need you.

If anyone said in preseason & weeks 1-8 that Lowe was an viable option in postseason, they would have been laughed off the board.

But yeah; I think he has grown, learned, maybe got healthy(?) and he could be as good as a not 100% Campbell.
I assume though that another practice week brings Will back closer to his ceiling, that is firmly above Lowe. If next week performance = or < Lowe ?? - gotta trust Marrone.[to decide]

Man that missed cut block was brutal. Only a sack, though.

the other missed block was a much worse outcome = strip, if a bit more understandable.

Thanks for the clips. Didn’t really see him individually in game time.

As an athlete a million years ago, Campbell reminded me of playing while coming back from injury and/or illness. It was painful to watch at times, but I’m expecting some very quick improvements to get back to his standard level of play. I bet we see a different looking guy next game and god willing, the game after that.

Campbell and Wilson on tape were not that bad at all. Campbell got beat on the 3rd down pass off Rhams hand and around the edge again on a strip sack. Wilson was beat on a stunt. Chargers had that sack when Wilsons guy hit Campbell and got the sack.

ON the completion to Henry they both got pushed back a bit to Drake and Drake stepped on Campbell's foot on the follow through, but it was completed. The other strip sack was meant to be a quick pass on the slant but the LB jumped the route underneath and Drake pumped it. This play Campbell dove at the guys feet since expected a quick pass. Moses also dove at his guys feet. Wilson is the one that got beat for the initial pressure but Moses guy got the strip sack but Wilson recovered the ball . Drake can't hold that ball. 100% on Drake.

39 pass plays they had 2 bad pass blocking plays by Campbell and 2 by Wilson (though I could give him 1 when Drake was supposed to throw quick but not really on him) against a top pressure team. Sack Fumble and the push Campbell and get the sack play were back to back pass plays on different drives. You take out 2 plays in a row and overall a good game by both.

Pats ran more to the right than left but Campbell was DOMINATE run blocking and Wilson was solid-good. They had a couple double teams they moved the defender 5 yards down the field.

Campbell looked 100% healthy and light on his feet. This is a case is a couple negative plays watching live and announcer commentary gave a very poor view of how the rookies played.

He sucked last night. Not exactly the day to parade around bleh’ing. I like the kid but whether it was not being 100% or short arms it doesn’t matter. He (and Wilson) just didn’t have it last night and it definitely helped throw things off.

Everyone talks about how the playoffs are different, the intensity level rises and the impact of mistakes are amplified. It is something that players have to experience. If Campbell and Wilson are the cornerstones we want them to be, they will be much more prepared for the next game. In some ways this was a good first game that should give the defense confidence and prepare the offense for what they need to do to win in the playoffs.
