What years did you go to Somerville High, I was there from 66-68 then went off on a lovely tropical tour in SE Asia. I do remember the hill you would go up from Somerville Ave to Highland Ave for the school.
I thought I might be one of the older guys on the board, but I may be a toddler (I'll be celebrating the big 6-0 later this year)

But for real, thank you (and all our great veterans) for your service!!

Things were VERY different back then.
Walk to school, take the city bus to school, ride your bike to LL Baseball all the way across the city, GTF out and go play with your friends!
I don't remember walking to school uphill both ways in the snow , but I also don't remember it being much different back then in Somerville.
I can remember getting on my bike with a baseball glove on the handlebars, with a fishing pole and tackle box strapped to the back. I'd be gone all day. Today? I can't fathom it.

Thanks for your service, those were hellish times. My next door neighbor was killed in Nam in '66. I was 3 years younger than you and lucked out when Laird canceled the draft.

We have at least one poster over 90. He is very animated though his takes are a little too "shoot from the hip" for some. People give him a hard time without realizng (or not caring) how old he is.

I'm only 1/2 laughing....my Mother actually made me open a brand new bar of Ivory soap, and eat it in front of her...
Never told a neighborhood parent to FK Off again.
Be glad it wasn’t Lifebuoy.

Hopefully there's something to this. But also, our 1st OL has mostly played 2nd-3rd DL's in those 2 games.
And still we haven't done well in the pass game - at all!

Our only hope is counting on Vrabel & JMD knowing the 4D chess game that a losing team and pre-season games are. We KNOW Josh is not game planning even one bit, and Vrabel wants to prepare and test the mettle of his guys. The worst thing for them was to get the fan hype by flashy plays in preseason that makes them think they're good before the season starts. (which is the reason for the eye roll when Dobbs scrambled and scored on a horrible play, because he couldn't find anyone open, but barely tried and OL fell apart, etc)

I know the hill...(S) ,all of them.
I never made it to High School there, I went to South Jr. High off Bow St. Next to union Sq. (My brother and Sister went to Som. High- they were older, she probably graduated 71-72) we lived over near Jack in the box on Elm Street- where I picked up the bus to go to Jr. High school)
My 2nd qtr of 8th grade Jr. High was East Jr. High in Brockton.
I graduated Somerville High in 1977

I went to South Jr. High as well there was a dent in the steel door at the bottom of the steps leading to the cafeteria. That dent came from my head I was tripped and flew down the steps head first into the door. Got up shook it off and went through the rest of the day. Who knows that may be why I'm so dense nowadays

We lived on Elm Street as well for a little while near Porter Square and my uncle had a used appliance store on Somerville Ave for quite a while there. Nice to meet someone from Somerville again.

Take care and let's hope the Patriots improve a bit this year.
I also went to Southern Jr High and graduated Somerville High in 1977
Firefighter in Somerville for 33 years

Have we really put out our first oline in its entirety at all this summer?

I feel like one or 2 practices maybe definitely not in preseason.

It's something that has me a little concerned and second guessing the coaches over. Feels like we've just had a revolving door everywhere except LT1 in both first and second team OLs.

Injuries, just the way camp is run these days, and whatever else can be the explanation but then maybe we just suck. I'm a little concerned.

Joint scrimmages have replaced preseason games as times to give reps to your starters.

Most coaches just don't want to risk starters in a preseason game where players throw caution to the wind in order to try to be seen (which is quite reasonable).

I specifically said summer and practice. I'm not just talking preseason games.

What’s screwed up today is you can’t do those things as a kid (parents think it’s dangerous etc) OR as an adult (because some would think you’re a pedo etc)….

Yes, that was the point I was going to make.

For that matter I don't think we've even had all the starters on O or D active at practice, let alone in a scrimmage or pre-season game.

While there's value in versatility the fact that no one has locked down LG or C at this point has to be concerning for all - but as someone once said, "it is what it is" - they wouldn't be having these extensive tryouts if they didn't need to.

I have to think they'll be taking a close look at OL cuts from other teams all through the season and will invest more in free agency next year too - basically this means the OL will be a work in progress this season. Likely the OL will be better thanks to Campbell, but no one is thinking this line will be the one to make it to the Super Bowl.

Knowing how important OL is, if I were the GM I might be inclined to have an entire practice squad of linemen to assess and call on for this season!

I thought joker had moved on? I remember being quite sad that I wouldn't get to read another rant from that crazy old coot.

I didn't know Joker personally (I don't live in the NE area) but he wasn't anywhere close to 90, I don't think that is who Brotherblues was talking about. I took Joker's over-the-top rants more as high comedy than crazy stuff. Over the years he occasionally dropped the comedy routine (I took it that way at least) and posted seriously, and some of those serious posts were among the most insightful I've read on this Board, IMHO he was an excellent writer when he wanted to be.

I suppose that we could have an age poll
UNDER 50
50-60
60-70
70-80
80+
