I still think deflategate was about ratings and a show of power for the next CBA negotiations

Spygate dominated news cycles, drove interests up in the NFL and made millions if not billions.

The Pats with Brady always had the highest ratings for the Superbowl.

Like wrestling, the Pats and Brady were made the heel of the NFL to stir controversy and make a villain that fans could root against.

Goodell and the owners ultimately only care about making money. It's why we have more playoff teams and a 17 game season

Possibly…I always suspected it was the other teams/owners not wanting to be humiliated for their false assertions, strengthened by their jealousy. Very human, emotional stuff. The league ****ed up with those PSI numbers and put themselves in a position where eating crow would be the end of them. And the moral justification was “make up call” if they’re overreacting to it. I just don’t think these bumbling assholes, and their goons, were that sophisticated; the entire thing was wrought with stupidity, dysfunction, and cronyism. It became an “us versus them” between the Patriots and league officials who had crossed the line and staked their reputations on a conspiracy.

Forget the myths the media's created about the White House. The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

How would Wickersham know that Brady sensed this? Very possible and believable that he really did but seems like an embellishment to me...
He's piecing everything from a million sources and putting it together how he sees fit. I'm sure he had to have lawyers go over this **** to make sure.

I don't think he had a personal vendetta against the Patriots or Belichick per se. I do believe, however, he used deflategate as a make-up call for spygate to satisfy the other owners.
Either way he deliberately let a few powerful owners (which Kraft is not) run over him to get the Patriots. That's not really any different than having a vendetta yourself and making this happen.

This should put to rest any notion that Goodell was "out to get the Patriots." He was not. Perhaps the other owners were, but I don't for a second believe Goodell wanted Spygate or Deflategate to occur.
Goodell lied through his teeth to condemn Brady after hiring a corrupt investigator to put out a biased, misleading and untrue report.

Wasn’t that injury in 1998 when Brady was still in college?

The President of the New York Jets QUIT his position to go work out of sight UNDER Goodell for literally peanuts..and subsequently ran on the field after the game screaming "AHA!! I GOTCHA" (sic)..a short time later Mike Kensil DISAPPEARED. Goodell claimed he sent Kensil to China on "league business". Kensil did not surface anywhere for TWO years. NO ONE in these United States quits a CEO position of that magnitude to do what Kensil did. It's a preposterous notion unless he entered into a deliberate conspiracy with Goodell to besmirch and impugn Tom Brady and the NEP.

Again..PRESIDENT Of an NFL team----->Lowla Crackadola NFL offices official--------->total sham/phony "Gotcha!" incident----traveling incommunicado for 2 years in China "on NFL business". The 8 million pound Goodelephant in the room has been staring at every one of us since.

I didn’t see it available but I’ll try again
Maybe it’s a different excerpt. Someone upthread linked the Google books excerpt and if you scroll to the end you’ll get a page or two from the chapter. There’s also a lot of other excerpts as you scroll. It jumps around and removes pages but it’s there.

So the league was aware of the Rams walk-through tape rumor in September of 2007… and quietly investigated it and found nothing. Did I read that right? Why in the AF would Tomase go ahead with publishing that story anyway?

The timing of when they knew about it seems to be kind of big news that nobody had reported till now…

This seems to be kind of big news that nobody reported already…

Because someone gave him a box of donuts if he would publish the story...

Reading on in the preview:

- BB told Bill O’Brien re the Texans job: “You don’t own one pair of cowboy boots. They’re going to run you out”. LOL
- Belichick felt (still does?) that an executive job with an organization - like Coughlin, Parcells and Holmgren had - is appealing. And might have been looking for one.
- Talks about the rumor about Brady being upset he didn’t win Patriot of the Week award all year. Brady didn’t really care about this award but was just looking for an acknowledgement from BB and a sign of appreciation. Complained that BB was so negative.
- The 2017 season was probably Brady’s “best before” date in NE. Which we figured anyway.

Wickersham was on WEEI today and said that Kraft revealed that in 2017 Belichick had a deal lined up to trade Brady but Kraft told him no. It seems Belichick really wanted Jimmy G to take over the team. Thank God Kraft said no as we wouldn’t have the 6th if he had ok’d it.
The scary thing here isn't that Kraft stepped in. He's the owner. Brady is the GOAT.

The scary thing is Bill considered trading Brady to keep Jimmy.

That's ludicrous.

Everyone blames BB for letting Brady go, but Kraft bears as much responsibility...he admitted he wasn't going to step in to save Brady this time.
If Kraft didn't step in and stop the Brady trade, the Patriots don't go to 2 SB's. Winning one.

Looking at the index:
- Trollin gets mentioned only twice. LOL
- That stupid Wells Report Context site is mentioned. It’s still up.
- A few pages mentioning Ernie Adams and spygate
- Chiefs mentioned a lot for some reason
- Hernandez only mentioned 3 times. Surprised
- Rex Ryan only mentioned twice
- Malcolm Butler mentioned several times.
- Balco mentioned zero times. So the rumor the book will try to link Brady/TB12 to Balco isn’t true. Guerrero does get mentioned a lot
- Gronk not mentioned much. Surprised.
- Jets and Giants mentioned a lot
- Jack Easterby mentioned a lot. That ought to be a fun read
- Not much about the Tuck rule other than Walt Coleman’s name a couple times
- The Bengals taping (Spygate II) gets a nod but that’s about it
- Trump gets lots of mentions in the book

Maybe true about Deflategate on day one. Once those fake PSI reports leaked and the owners and 95% of the country foamed at the mouth for justice, he saw Deflategate as his life preserver. He was 100% “out to get the Patriots” after it ballooned. It would be almost impossible to name a person less “out to get” the Patriots when you look at his numerous lies, some of which were uncovered upon un-sealing the testimony in court.

I think you touched on this in a subsequent post, but a significant point about those fake PSI reports is that they came from the NFL. Someone in Goodell's inner circle fed fake info to the media and the commissioner had a choice to either go along with that story or to issue a statement saying that the "11 out 12/Colts footballs were fine" story was wrong, but there would still be an investigation. Rather than admit any error on the league's part, Goodell took the easy way out and allowed the Patriots to be painted as villains in the media for months.

Sounds like that book is brutal on Bledsoe. Poor dude, he just wants to sell wine.

Personal vendetta? How he felt while doing it doesn't matter. He did it. He ran wild with that ****.
He lied through his teeth but it wasn't personal or a hatchet job on Brady. Oh no, just part of the job.

Because he didn’t.
Lynch asked and belichick laughed at him.

As great as Bill is he’s very set in his ways. Always move on from a player early then late. He drafted Jimmy G to take over from Brady and he didn’t believe Brady would be the same player in his late 30’s/40’s. He was wrong.

You’ll notice some laughable spin on this board.

Numerous reports have gotten into how Bill refused to trade Jimmy to the Browns in the 2017 offseason…direct from Browns beat writers with no axe to grind, one with a direct line to GM Sashi Brown (who also said Bill never even listened to their offer when he traded Jimmy to SF). Then Wickersham went through how Bill was enamored with Jimmy and the power struggle between him and Kraft.

Of course, Team Bill claims these are all lies and there’s a smear campaign against Bill from Wickersham, about four Browns beat writers, and a handful of other reporters who made similar claims.

Wouldn’t you know it…when all this stuff dropped, Bill‘s buddy, John Lynch, a former player who he always gushed about, and the guy he gave Jimmy to on a sweetheart deal, suddenly, for the first time ever, decided it was a great time to tell reporters about their discussions. Heck, you’d never, ever hear any GM openly tell the press about trade talks, especially some as serious business as Bill Belichick ones, but suddenly, in the midst of a minor **** storm about Brady/Jimmy, Lynch regales the press with a story about him asking to trade for Brady and Belichick saying “No, way John!! I’d never do that! Brady is the greatest!” which flies in the face of every other report and had been a secret up until that day.

So that little quote from Lynch is what Team Bill uses as “evidence” that Bill never wanted to trade Brady. Lol.

Not sure I believe that, I think this book might be 50% facts and he filled the blanks in with what he thinks, I'm not buying.
