When did our defense get so bad?

The Patriots were 1-3 in 2004 preseason - NOT 0-4

Some people have no memory...

LOL!

Just playin', Handel!

I'd have to go back and check it, but I am pretty sure I said "might". Intentionally. As in, "might" or "might not". Naturally, my hope is "might not".

BTW, but I do love your ad hominem reference. Were you ever on a debate team? I ask because that is where I learned about the concept of the ad hominem argument, position and attack.

No, I just like to think of myself as well read. I don't care for debating, I just can't deal with the flood of negativity that always ensues from these preseason games. It's just unwarranted. Evaluating team performance in them is a futile effort, because you're not seeing your best against their best, except maybe for a short stretch of the 3rd game. I prefer to evaluate individuals during these games on specific skills, because it's easier to do and usually a better predictor of future results. I watched Mayo almost exclusively tonight, and really liked what I saw. He knows where to be, he's instinctive, he can deliver a hit, and he has serious range. He has a little trouble stacking and shedding against bigger players, but that will come I think when his technique improves. I wish there was more talk about those sort of evaluations and less sky is falling nonsense during this part of the season, is all.

You were on the debate team? What a shock. I had you pegged for middle backer at Penn State.

Well said, Richter.

Are we seriously going to have these threads. I guess sanity will be missing from this board for the next few days.

People do realize it is preseason right?

To Armen and for those who don't know the preaseason is meaningless besides just picking out who is deserving of a roster spot

Case in point to prove this is the truth?...
The 2007 Miami Dolphins were 2-0 in the first 2 preseason games and looked great! - Uh...but lost the next 2 preseason games and finished 1-15 for the season

Enough said

The defense went south today because we are playing a sift zone defense.

As long as Mayo is on the field, the run defense will suffer until he learns how to get off a block.

At this point I would not mind seeing Woods start on the outside and Thomas start next to Bruschi.

I'm going to re-watch to get a closer look, but I thought Bruschi was as much if not more of an issue than Mayo out there on that first drive. Bruschi was getting physically overmatched when I was paying attention to him.

its the pre season. the games are meaningless. anybody whos all bent out of shape about a pre season game needs to get a life

Our defense is in trouble, because of a preseason game? The smile on Vrabel's face just confirms this /sarcasm.

Can you please get your blood pressure checked? Good god.

Pre season is meaningless.

I hate preseason....nothing good can come out of it, only bad things happen, like injuries or doom and gloom posters.

While I agree with you that the games are meaningless, I would bet any amount of dollars that some of the hypocrites in here would be SERIOUSLY talking Super Bowl if the team beat TB 35-7 tonight and if the Patriots win a preseason game it means something,If they lose its meaningless - You know its true on some of these flip floppers in here.

As one of the more vocal "it is only preseason" voices, I know I have always said preseason games are meaningless. But I can only speak for myself.

I think there is a fair amount of people on this board though who are pretty level headed during the preseason whether the Pats do well or crap the bed. There are obviously a segment who are hypocrites though.

Yes there probably stands about 50/50 from members who are hypocrites to those who are not talking out of their ass in here and state something and stick to it no matter what happens.

This is the second preseason game where teams are "running up" the score against us. Has "class" takin a back seat this preseason? When a team is down by several TD's and allmost shutout in the 1st half of a preseason game, should Gruden really be risking his 3nd string starters? I call BS. There's no way they'd be doin this if Gruden didn't have some type of film showing our gameplan. He probably had someone film the snowbowl and used it illigally. Freakin cheaters. They probably studied tape of our currant Backub QB's too. Had Gruden not known Cassell sucked so bad there's no question what would have happened in this game. I hope Goodell spends as much time picking apart this so called "legal" game as he did when deciding whether or not to give Polian head on the first date.

Well Bill didn't seem to pissed after the game.

The sky is falling in New England? And I thought we had it bad down here in Florida with a hurricane and all.

I watched this game. While your defense had its problems...its preseason folks.

C'mon, the Colts do awful in the preseason.

The Patriots have a talented roster and a HOF coach. I think it is okay to have concern with things you observe in the preseason, but it's good to keep perspective.
