What a complete, utter over reaction!

Moss still had the offseason including passing camps, minicamps, OTAs. Also, Moss didn't run a lot of routes for the Pats early. In fact, he never had the route package that other receivers like Branch or Welker had. Ochocinco has a more complicated route package because he is more of a route runner than Moss.

Moss still had more time to learn the playbook and his presnap reads than Ochocinco.

Interesting analysis. I'm not doubting you, but i don't think Ocho has run enough routes to say for sure. It would be interesting if you were right tho as 85 is supposed to be the Moss-essque player this team has been used to.

We will probably see Ocho next week..but that may be catching passes from Hoyer.

Just like tonight. He doesn't seem comfortable out there so hopefully some catches against 3rd stringers will build his confidence.

Most of Moss' routes were vertical routes. They are asking Ochocinco to run outside, inside, short and intermediate routes.

Ochocinco was never brought in to be another Moss. He isn't fast enough to be Moss. He was brought in to be an outside threat who could also go over the middle. Ochocinco is close to Branch at this point than Moss, although he is not like Branch either.

I would definitely like to see a 50 or 60 yard receiving game from Chad...even if it's with Brady warming the bench like we all hope he will next week.

Although I think that because of this unspectacular game,Brady will play 2 quarters against the GMen..in fact I am expecting it.

Can't help but thinking what the fanboys on this forum would be saying if their favorite obsession, the former AFC Exit 16Ws, lost 34-10 to, say, Cincinnati.....

I can only speak for myself. I would say your Jets starters didn't really impress on offense except for the final drive and the defense looked better than they really were because Andy Dalton played like crap until his last drive, BUT it was raining and in the preseason. Exactly what I said last week.

This is the complete polar opposite of the reaction people had after the first two preseason games. Overreaction in both instances. We had posters talking about this team potentially being better than the 07 team after the first two preseason games. http://www.patsfans.com/new-england-patriots/messageboard/10/788424-assertion-team-has-more-upside-potential-than-any-recent-history-discuss.html

The Pats are not going to look as bad as they looked tonight. But then again, we are not going to look as good as we looked in the first two preseason games.

One thing is for certain, our first team OL got their butts kicked pretty much the same way our OL got their butts kicked against the Jets in the playoffs. Brady is still not the same pre-injury when he's getting pressured constantly. He's not steping up to make throws.

Just look at how long the "Jets suck" thread is. When we get beat it's totally different for some fans. We're a good team that has a lot improving we need to do. I'll say the same for the Jets. Both teams are fairly closely matched.

The only thing I was really upset with was the effort or lack there of. I didn't think the Pats came in with an agressive gameplan against a team with an extremely aggressive one, but that didn't excuse the mental mistakes, poor execution, horrible tackling, etc.

On the whole, I don't put too much stock in preseason games, but I am never happy when the Pats dog it.

This......... This vanilla "nickel" read/react defense wasn't going to be able to withstand that determined, aggressive offense that the Lions put out there. We would have lost either way........ that's fine, save the real defense for the season.

That said......... we played bad fundemental football out there. low energy, no passion, poor tackling, dropped or missed INTs. It's once thing to go out and lose becasue your preseason game plan is bland, it's altogether another to get run roughshod over cuz your execution is crap.

Last week, there were people already putting this team ahead of the 2007 squad, and some of us had to tell them to calm down. This week, there are people who are in a panic, and it seems some of us are going to have to tell them to cheer up.

Welcome to exhibition football.

I still think people are giving up on Ochocinco too soon. He has been a Patriot for a month.
Seriously why would you expect anything different, its the norm here and probably on most forums.

For Lions, it was their Superbowl and Patriots are saving real play for season.

It's funny how you have a pro Patriot spin for everything, but the Jets only looked average.

So is it only pre-season for the Jets? I thought their offense overall, not JUST the last drive last week in the first half, they were impressive, especially when you consider they were without Green, their starting RG, and it was Plax' first game, funny how that didn't get added into your analysis. You're quick to make sure you let everyone know that the Lions had Suh, Fairly and Vandenbosh playing, even though they only had Suh playing...

Pats got punched in the mouth, period. That cloud Pats fans were on, has exploded. Of course, it's just pre-season, but seeing the OL play and some of the injuries the Pats have been dealt, the Pats are certainly not the team that will run away with the division that some thought they would be before tonight's game.

Really? So when it was reported that the Pats played up tempo and threw a lot of screen passes last week against the Bucs, and prompted some responses from Bucs players that they were playing as if it were the playoffs, I'm pretty sure Pats fans had quite a bit to say about that, and probably rightfully so...

Why does that change this week?

RayRay, just because you come to this board, I am not going to stop ignoring you. Have fun playing with yourself. I'm sure it is driving you crazy that I won't respond to your idiocy.

How is it idiocy?

Am I wrong?

I thought it was the norm to suffer at least 1 preseason beatdown. Frankly, I would be more concerned if the Pats were undefeated in the preseason.

I agree that the Pats did not look like they wanted to win this and the Lions did. Plenty of good training material. I was happy Brady got off the field without being injured. I'm not reading anything into this game.

lulz it really was. Stafford was pointing to god, guys were dancing and ****. I guess that's what happens when you're the Detroit Lions.

Brandon Tate had 400 yards last season....so why should the Pats keep Chad over Tate when both have been pretty awful this preseason but at least Tate still has more potential?

He does? What has Tate ever done to indicate that he has the potential to be better than Ochocinco? Being young doesn't automatically mean that you have a ton of potential.

Seriously though, the Patriots were 0-4 in the preseason in 2007, and the Lions were 4-0 in the preseason the year they went 0-16.

Are there things to be concerned about coming out of this game? Sure there are. The offensive line got its ass handed to it once Connolly went out, and McCourty was beaten badly on at least 3 separate occasions (I'm not even counting the broken play that ended up being a huge gain for Calvin Johnson, because that's not on McCourty really). It wasn't even Johnson that was beating him a lot of the time; it was Burleson, a good but by no means exceptional WR.

The rest doesn't worry me so much. If Stafford stays healthy, that's going to be a hell of an offense in Detroit, and we saw that tonight. In the regular season, we're just going to have to hope that the presence of guys like Haynesworth, Ellis and Cunningham changes the outcome a bit. The loss was discouraging, and it is a cause for a little bit of concern, but as long as the team learns from it they'll be fine.
