Re: Welker mild disdain for Pats right now
Except no one is saying that and you are just making sh.t up Ken. The Welker supporters are calling for an extremely reasonable deal, not 100 million plus. Unfortunately many patriot fans want their best players to play for pennies on the dollar, and while that's not surprising for fans it is surprising for those who know something about football.
THat's how far your mania goes. It's made you forget howto read. NO ONE is making ***** up. Read what Rhody said. He was tired of the Patriots making players "jump through hoops", and implies by doing so, they have doomed themselves to mediocrity. THAT's what I commented on.
You are so far gone that anyone who dares to say anything even mildly critical of Wes, becomes an unmitigated hater in your biased eyes. My post had very little to do with Welker except in the broadest sense that he's seeking to maximize his contract like many have before him. Reasonable conversation with you is impossible. Lord knows I have tried.
BTW- "Welker supporters" are talking about a contract in excess of $10MM/.yr in real money for the next 3 years. Forget about the last year or 2, whick likely end up being fluff and/or cap control. That's simply more than the Pats are going to want to pay for a slot receiver who will only catch 118 passes this season if Gronk, Hernandez, and Edelman/FA/draft pick miss a large proportion of their games.....again.
BTW- I'm not sure exactly how much Welker has made in the 6 years he's been a Patriot. I think its around $36MM though it might be as little as $27MM. I remember reading the $27MM number but I don't know if it included last season's $9.3. Regardless Welker has averaged between five and six million dollars a year over his career with the Pats. I'd be surprised if there were more than 10 other receivers who averaged more over the same period, certainly ZERO slot receivers.
Welker has been paid very well to "do his job", and he's done it well. And if resigned, they will play him even more over the next few years because of it. But they are NOT going to overpay him, and that's what paying $10MM+./yr would be. I won't be surprised if the Pats re-sign Welker, I will be shocked if gets anything close to what Ivan is proposing, once the "real numbers" are broken down a few days after the contract is announced.
