NFL GAME DAY DISCUSSION Week 6: Other NFL games

I think it was a bad decision because of the time left. They only had 0:22 secs w/ 2 TO (I think). Even if they make the 1 yard, they still had 2 yds to goal line. At that point, you can maybe run it once and if you fail you use a TO. Then what, 2 quick passes to try to score? Go for it again on 4th with 0:03 secs? They probably end up kicking fg anyway.

This is the same thing McCarthy did against the Pats but at least it was at the 1/2 yd and they were going for goal not a 1st down.

I would've kicked it in both instances. Take the points.
Yeah, context is vitaly important, yet it usually gets overlooked by fans and the analytics geeks. It's heroic as all get out to risk everything on one move.....

..... right up to the point where you fail. Then you're just a loser and, quite possibly (as in the case tonight), a needlessly foolish one.

I just wanted to share this:

How does a guy this big run like that, holy cow

Spoke too soon.. Henry off to the races for a TD. Tits up by one.
Hah. Yeah, I turned off an instant classic. Kind of had a feeling that would happen. Oh well. I was tired anyway.

Derrick Henry clocked at 21.5 MPH on that run. At 250 pounds.

What the hell are you talking about? Titans had pick #19 in that draft, Pats had #32. Titans made no trade up to get him
Got away as in he will have been a good fit for us if Vrable had not selected him. He is our typical DL BB likes and the fact that he entered the draft coming off an ACL tear had some projections that he may be there at 32. That is all I am saying.

Does everyone agree with the Bills going for it instead of going into OT? I don't understand why you do that there it's not like leaving 22 seconds gives TEN much. They should be ale to get 6 inches but I wonder if they would do the same thing in the playoffs.

Awful Call. You kick the field goal, only 20 seconds left you are pretty much guaranteed OT. Titans would have received kick off and taken a knee.

Let me play devil's advocate. In may respects I think it was akin to BB going for it vs Colts on 4th and 2 (I know that option was to punt but the scenarios are the same- other side's offense is not getting stopped). If you kick the field goal, you go to overtime, pretty much assured ( but not guaranteed) and odds are whoever won the toss was going to score as TD a neither team could stop the other (up to that point). So there's a 50/50 chance of winning that way.
If you go for it on 4th down and I have to believe the metrics show a team gets the first down more than 50% of the time, with the time outs, you get a few chances at the end zone and then if you don't score with :03 left, you kick the field goal...
I understand it but I probably would have kicked the field goal and taken my chances in overtime....

Thing is even if they made 1st down, by then clock was down to 0:12 sec so they would've had to use their last TO to stop it at the 2 yard line. That gave them a chance for only 2 quick passes since at that point the run is out w/ no TOs. So everyone knows they're passing, flood EZ with coverage and maybe get an INT.

They should've kicked it and lived to fight another quarter. 50/50 chance to win coin flip.

Watching the logic trains, as people try to explain their position that Buffalo was right to have gone for it, when they also argue(d) that Dallas was stupid for going for it, has been a lot of fun.

I wasn't against DAL going for it, just try something different. Zeke had already been stuffed 4 times by the Pats DL (this & previous 4th down), and Dak once. Why try again to run it down middle w/ Dak when that clearly wasn't working. They should've tried a PA w/ TE peeling out or anything else. Instead, result was worse case scenario w/ a touch back. McCarthy made so many bone headed decisions, he's lucky to have such a talented team to bail him out.

The Cowboys are supposed to have arguably the best OL in the NFL. They should have been able to, almost literally, tell the Patriots the play, and which hole they were going to hit, and still get the first down.

Instead, the players failed, and people are wrongly scapegoating the coaching staff.

Meanwhile, we've got McDermott saying some of the silliest **** possible, as he doubles down on his mistake:

"We're this far from winning the game," McDermott told media in his post-game press conference, per Pro Football Talk, while holding his fingers close together. "I owe it to my players. I believe in my players. I believe in my quarterback.

Bills' Sean McDermott doubles down on fourth-down decision in loss to Titans: 'I owe it to my players'

Well, guess what, coach. You were also "this far" from losing the game. Congrats!

Not even two timeouts; they just had one remaining... And it's exactly because of those circumstances why I would've also kicked the FG... And I'm usually a big proponent of going for first downs/TDs...

Yeah

"Points or die" is different from an earlier in the game situation.

The replies... yikes

The Titans won a big game, but they lost 2 players to ACL injuries.

The Titans announced a series of roster moves on Tuesday, including a move to injured reserve for two players who suffered season ending injuries in Monday night’s win.

Cornerback Caleb Farley and wide receiver Cameron Batson both tore their ACLs during the victory, so the Titans opened a pair of roster spots by putting them on IR. They filled one of those roster spots by activating defensive back Brady Breeze off of injured reserve and opened another by waiving punter Johnny Townsend.

Townsend’s roster spot is likely going to go to punter Brett Kern once he’s taken off the COVID-19 reserve list.

What a disaster dished up by Synder and his cronies.. a blatant attempt to try to divert attention from the growing WFT scandal and of course it blew up in their faces. So well-deserved.

If Snyder really cared about Sean Taylor, he would have done this long ago.

The announcers for Monday Night Football on ESPN are just horrifically bad.

End of game, Steelers are driving, they compliment Ben R. for spiking the ball on 2nd down with 45 seconds left. It was a dumb decision as he was trying to catch a Bear for running off the field, but it was the 11th man, not the 12th.

Then they say he made the right decision running the ball as the Steelers could run the clock down and give the Bears no time. But the Bears called timeout.

It was one bad piece of analysis after another.
