Honestly, Chargers deserve this. Not Herbert, but the coaching staff especially. Just a terribly coached game by them. Why did they take the timeout at the end?

Herbert overcame the deficit, but he couldn't overcome his coach.

That's definitely a consideration.

One thing with Staley (Chargers coach) is I think he lives and dies by the idea he has the better QB, and he's going to use every opportunity to try to win the game via Herbert, rather than lose the game via his defense. He pretty much always bets on his offense on any decision where there's some merit either way.

Not disagreeing with you, but offering up an "ok, then..." which is about Staley, and not meant to be negative towards you or your position:

Under your above rubric, shouldn't Staley have gone for two on that last TD?

Trying a field goal at all is stupid and risky when you can take a knee. They MAY of taken a knee even with a first down but not after that TImeout, no way.

Gives Raiders a chance to reboot. Make the Raiders use their timeouts, not the Chargers. Derek Carr just said on the air that the timeout changed their play call.
