We gotta go get him (Tee Higgins)

Just to clarify, it's not really accurate to say that they "didn't spend" last year. They left a lot of money on the table, but Onwenu/Dugger/Barmore were all paid top of the market contracts for their positions last year. Henry/Peppers/Stevenson/Jennings/Bourne were all given not insignificant deals too.

I'm not brining that up to pat them on the back as big spenders. Just pointing out that since the re-signing list is presumably much smaller this year, it wouldn't be crazy to project them to spend a lot in free agency. They spent a good amount last year, it was just re-signings so it doesn't feel like it.

He’s produced more when Chase is out of the lineup:

The pats have 110+ million in cap space. Signing Tee Higgins won’t preclude them from signing a LT, EDGE, etc.
Elliott Wolf went after the older Calvin Ridley: there is no way in hell he's not going after the Younger Tee Higgins...so there.

I have done a 180 on higgins... at first I didn't want him... but after this year, it is clear we need some one who can pull guys off the line, out of the box... Right now, there are no other options unless you want to make a run at steff diggs (31 years old, rehabbing a torn acl), amari cooper (will be 31 before the new year starts, disappeared in Buffalo), darius slayton (another 50 catch 700 yard guy) or cooper kupp (pending free agent imo, will be 32, is hurt a lot)... there really is no one else that I can think of... Unless we spend 4 on a WR, it isn't happening this year... LT is more important for the long term imp... ymmv on that one though

as for the money aspect, I just don't care... we have spent the past three or four seasons near the bottom of the league in cash expenditures... over that period of time, what has been the refrain? that the roster lacks talent... combine with the poor drafts, the unwillingness of the team to spend on free agents, this roster is full of guys would would have been bubble players in New England ten years ago... If we want to be competitive something has to change

I understand the reticence of overspending... BB and his fiscal frugality was imprinted on us as a fan base for 20 years... the "we don't have to spend/overspend, we can find a guy" mentality is unrealistic now, and quite frankly has been for awhile... Its time to take that yoke off and look at the realities of the modern day NFL...

If you want to wait and play the draft game, we won't be competitive for at least another two to three years by my reckoning... It's either that or start using the draft chips for trades in order to rebuild the roster... when a guy like AJ Brown comes available, we need to spend those chips to make the deal happen... and then you will still have to pay them...
Kupp, Higgins or DK perhaps changes the whole complexion of the offense. Add McDaniels mastery to it. Take Carter at 4, and fill out the rest of the roster in the later rounds. I've said personally this is the draft/ offseason to address the trenches. Running the ball and stopping the run is what has won us superbowls.

Higgins plusses
1 - He just turned 26 and is on the right side of 30. Signing to a 4 year deal works out just right by the math.
2 - He is 6' - 4' which means he towers over the present group little rascals. Seems like a no brainer to have a match up problem for smaller DBs.
3 - He has only fumbled 3 times in 5 regular seasons. None in 7 post season games.
4 - He started only 9 games in 2024, but averaged over 100 yards per game and 1 TD per game. Higgins stock is still rising.
5 - When Higgins sees at least 100 targets he is knocking on the 1000 yard door or already there. Throw and throw some more.

Higgins negatives
1 - He started only 9 games in 2024. Available for just 12 games in 2024 and 2023.

You guys willing to overpay for 1 player that's not a LT do realize we are still not getting any better than a possible wildcard spot next season right?
I'll pay twice the rate for a all pro LT.

I'm out!!
You pretending Mac Jones is in any way similar to Joe Burrow should make you want to leap.

Boutte had 589 yards playing in 15 games in 2024 with nobody at WR2. I fully expect him to get 800ish yards in his 2nd year (I don't count his 1st year when the ball was thrown to him 7 times total) at WR2 with someone like Higgins at WR1. I don't think it's necessary to get 2 WR's who make over $20 M each. My 2 cents.

So we need 1 very good WR either in the draft, FA or trade and Boutte will be on the other side. I also think we need to draft a WR in rounds 4-7.
Bourne will also be a year removed from knee surgery.

I expect Douglas to thrive in the slot in Josh's offense, also expect Hunter Henry to have career highs... this assuming they fix the blocking first. We could use one alpha on the outside, but we can find plenty of #2's.

Wozzy you lost me.

Joe Burrow is better than Mac. If Tee Higgins played with Mac instead of Burrow his numbers would look substantially worse. It's a team game. Bourne, Boutte... these can be decent #2's.

You act like receivers are some magical fix to cure what was wrong with this offense. Blocking comes first, QB play comes next... receivers is the last thing that has to go right for a forward pass to be successful. There are lots of solid WR's out there, value vets they could sign. You can win a championship with a group of five solid #2's.

A #1 would be nice, but outside of Chris Godwin maybe (assuming health), I don't see a single free agent #1 available.

Now you're talking let's get Higgins and Godwin. Good idea.

I guarantee you Vrabel is not viewing this upcomings season as a rebuild. He will get his players and this Team back to respectability. Our Two Rookie WR's were Dead last among their peers last year: yeah I can see McDaniels going with them over a Proven Tee Higgins NOT!

Gotta get Higgins first, bud.

Wozzy: over the years when we miss on WR's: it's not from a lack of trying: we just chose the wrong guy. Other Teams have had success there: Vrabel is looking at some very good Prospects at the Senior Bowl: I think our WR deficiency is going to be solved... call it a hunch see *Draft forum*.

Everything is relative. The Pats did not spend last year compared to teams actually trying to compete.

We have the QB and now Front Office with a competent HC and all. We would Never get good FA's with Mayo as HC even if we had the $$$$$$.

K Boutte has upside K Bourne is toast...I am sure you saw last years games: Teams were Doubling K Boutte with the Safety. Imagine Boutte with Tee Higgins on the other side WR solved.

Unfortunately (thanks Mayo), Carter will probably be gone before #4. Travis Hunter is NOT the answer at WR or CB (as there are players that I suspect will be better at either of those positions in this draft). Mason Graham at #4 (or even Jalon Walker) would be a solid pick. Add either of those to Higgins (Metcalf doesn't want to play here), and another solid WR prospect in the draft (Elic Ayomanor and/or Jayden Higgins?), and we could be onto something.

Vrabel is looking at a lot of WR's add that guy to the mix X-WR.
