We Are TWO Players Away - Overpay In Trades For QB and WR.

Let's suspend the pingpong banter. Are you saying that Bill is at this point in time a successful GM who deserves to keep his job? If so, what evidence can you offer in the time frame from Brady's departure (or a year or so before) until now in support of this view?
He has orchestrated the greatest dynasty in the history of the sport, kept it going longer than anyone has and is trying to rebuilt it.
The job in rebuilding from an unprecedented run is uncharted territory and the 3rd year is still part of a reasonable timeframe.

So what are you giving up for Lamar Jackson and his career 48-17 (74%) record?
Nothing because his style of play will both shorten his career and result in playoff struggles.

N'Keal Harry
So you expect someone to make zero draft choices that don’t work out?
That eliminates everyone.

That is a concern, no doubt. We would have to be VERY sure about his developing the skills of a pocket passer because that razzledazzle stuff never lasts an entire career. Remember Cam?

This is also assuming Mac isn’t at all responsible for some of those stats. Where Tom steps up into the pocket and delivers a laser, Mac “is pressured” and runs out of the pocket and then does something stupid like throw back across the numbers, multiple times.

Fair point. I did see him panic and leave a decent pocket several times last game

Everyone having been eliminated, the thread fell silent and the heavens rejoiced.

These are good points. I just don't think Bill is up to the job - the GM component - at this point in his career. I was a couple of years older than Bill when I retired - 74. I could have stayed as long as I wanted, but it was honorable and fulfilling work I wanted to do well, and I could sense I was beginning to cut a few corners, so I left. That's what old guys are suppoosed to do. My replacement, whom I had hired ten years before, is doing great. That's how it works.

And yet they won the game. If they lost, you'd have something there. Just because they didn't win in a way you wanted to doesn't make your argument better.
they scored 19 points against a top ten worst team OF ALL TIME

A trade for a good QB is easier said than done, though. You rarely see a good QB available for trade or as a free agent.

2 players away is extremely delusional.
Offensively we play too slow .... that is more than 2 players.
The problem is too many people don't want to believe the reality that the offense is fundamentally bad from almost top to bottom and want to really cling to the hope that there's a quick fix somewhere.

The sad thing is we are talking all about the passing game, the offensive line and the running game are actually the worst parts of this offense this year. The passing game is just mediocre. Which is basically the same it's been since 2019. We need depth at RB, we need high quality lineman and depth that doesn't screw us over when they get injured. We need WR's that actually can get seperation. And we need a QB upgrade.

So we'll draft a defensive back next draft

The other issue is that a good QB has leverage. A top 10 QB if they were in a position to be traded is going to do what they all do and have a short list of teams that they will consider. No good QB is going to say "damn I want to go to the Patriots and throw to those guys behind that offensive line and get blamed for all the problems because the coach is untouchable". A free agent of any quality is going to end up going to whoever is a piece away. Even a Russell Wilson situation pretty much demands that the team bend over backwards and roll out the red carpet and kiss his ass and give him a ton of input. You know which coach absolutely will not do that to land a QB?

Realistically, the best they could hope for outside the draft is what the Colts got with moving with Rivers and Ryan. Cast offs who have completely fallen off that are trying to extend their career.

But you can flip that and say the Pats are 3-1 or 2-2 with a legitimate #1 WR. Two of the Pats losses were games the Pats could have won if you had better talent.
YES! We have bingo.

Better talent at QB.

Fans are having a hard time grappling with two contradictory yet simultaneous truths: Mac was the right pick in 2021 but he's also not the guy. The entire 2021 QB class is looking like busts, except for Trevor Lawrence possibly. I'm not as sold on upgrading WR1 but do see the merit. The bigger issue is that Mac went from looking like the next great pocket passer to Trent Edwards.

The stud WR excuse is flawed.

Any team with brain cells is going to take him away. Then Corky is back to square one. Furthermore, linguine armed QBs like Testicle Jones are not deep ball guys.

Because if we offered the same compensation trade wise and similar contracts they would be here. Bill won't do that though. That is the issue.
Absurd.

Hurts and AJ were hoping to play together since college.

Tyreek had Miami ticketed.

It's bizarre you don't understand this. Neither of these guys were pining for New England and Mac Jones.

Once again, you severely overrate Mac Jones

How was Jones the right pick?

The Pat's should have kept Cam and taken Trask.
