Vrabel's Staff Discussion Thread (Discuss related news here)

Vrabel said it in 3 interviews just today - they're not going to quickly fill the coord's.
That means we're going to sit around on pins & needles waiting to hear the news leak in about who's coming and going.
When he said familiar faces did he mean Troy Brown and who else?
I don’t think Hightower played with Vrabs to my recollection.

That's enough for me!
I think it's a pile of ****. EP >>> WC in the playoffs...c'mon

Kinda helps when the QB running in in the playoffs was Tom Brady.

Well McD is a free agent right now, so why can't he go visit with Maye and see how it would gel? If that hasn't happened already, no rule against it because he isn't currently in an NFL coaching position.

I was being tongue in cheek and it's not important enough to explain why it all seemed funny to me.

Check out this draft class that Ryan took part in. And I'll be fair and disregard the obvious pick of Nabers.
Nubin - 1st team all-rookie
Phillips & Tracy - 2nd team all-rookie

Even an undrafted DL is making headlines.

this is number 1 by far. I was going mad with McD playcalling, and he's had a much better roster than AVP had/has here
This is said about every single OC by their fanbase - even binkie Ben (Johnson) - starts whenever they have a series where they dont go down and score and is then filed away for every play that doesn't work from that moment on.

Yep. That was a pretty remarkable accomplishment, I think the impression of some that he can only run a very complex offense suited only to certain sorts of players is very much overblown. There is probably some truth to that imopression in his HC experience, but not in his work as OC. I think the Brady era's impatience with WR's struggling to master the system was more on Brady than on Josh, because of Tom's perfectionism. McD, I think, was actually reasonable patient.
Remember that time Josh told Brady, “He was wide open” and Brady got all pissed about that? Good old days!!!

Plus, playcalling is a bit overrated.

Seriously? He just spend 8 months in it and because of his knowledge in learning it allowed him to start. Based on his rookie year he seemed to do OK with it despite bad playcalling, middling WRs and a crap oline.

I don't understand this sentence. AVP taught WC to him. McAdoo did as well. So did McCartney

Thanks
Just to be clear. He didn’t start because of his knowledge of the WCO he started because of his talent.
We were 32nd in passing yards. What are you holding on to?

Part of the reason they will go a little slower is because the league won’t permit them to actually ink deals with guys currently employed by other teams until next week (if their season is over by then) or later if they are still playing. They also have to fulfill the Rooney Rule for each. I am guessing the OC and DC will be “leaked” by the weekend and finalized early next week, then they can start filling out a staff next week when most candidates are able to sign deals.

You need to know the offense at a confident level and demonstrate it in practice in order to start.

ROFL

The team had no one capable of making defensive play calls and no one to defvelop defensive game plans. Mayo refused to hire the doing those roles to continue as a DC

Belichick with the help of Belichick ran the Defense. Mayo thought that he was a defensive guru and that he and Covington could do the job. NOT!

IDEA OF MANY FANS WHEN A DECISION NEEDS TO BE MADE
Crowden finds out what Vrabel wants and everyone does as Vrabel wants.

Vrabel might get input from others but he is responsible for everything.

Under Belichick this might have been CLOSE to being true, but IMO there were many times when the influence of others didn't allow Belichick to do as he wished.

The Kraft's just don't run their businesses that way. They know that they should have hired a GM over Belichick sooner AND, they won't make this mistake again.

That being said, Wolf, Crowden will likely have a sit-down after the draft and plan the continuing development of the front office infrastructure. Sure, some folks will go, but Wolf is very unlikely to be one of them.

Then you shouldn’t be concerned about his ability to learn

me too
his offense was always predictable, people complaining about AVP calling runs up the middle non stop have forgotten about mcdaniels offense as well as his predictable screens
This fanbase has hated every OC I can remember. Weis sucked, McDaniels sucked, Bob sucked, McDaniels sucked again, Patricia sucked (ok he did), Bob sucked again, AVP sucked.

Maybe the fans aren’t a good judge of who is and isn’t a good play caller lol?

Then what happens when MacDaniels leaves? There are only 3 team that run E-P anymore, which gives you 3 OC’s you can possibly hire to replace him. Or change offenses again, which is a terrible idea. All of the great QB’s learned one offense and mastered it. Brady 1 system,Marino 1 system Mahomes1system, Montana1system, Elway 1-system, the list is long, none of them were jerked from system to system. The language is different, the reads are different, the blocking assignments are different. It’s a big deal.
At this point I would just worry about finding the best OC possible and having the team improve and grow on the offensive side.

Obviously a carousel of OCs would be bad for Maye's development, but we'll just have to see who Vrabel selects for OC and live with it. We're just posting opinions here. Now let's see how the ripple effect of the Vrabel choice affects the other top positions, OC, DC, etc.

I actually think the OL coach will also be a very important choice. Dante Scarnecchia was a huge part of why the Patriots dynasty flourished for two decades. He played as big a part as McDaniels in our offense success by developing the talent to protect TB12.
