UDFA LB/DE Christian Cox waived after cheap shot; injury settlement?

Just saw Rodak reported this last night. Nobody had him making the final cut anyways, but it does leave them extermely thin at LB, especially MLB, for the rest of camp. I will be surprised if they don't sign a few very soon.

It's really disappointing the way this happened. A blatantly cheap head shot on a kick return right before he was going to get a chance to finally get on the field in the second half.

he got a fine of 20k for his hits on Cox and Price (yes, it was the same player).
He was cut by the Jags and picked up by the Broncos recently.

At least the Pats put in the injured designation on his waiver. So if no one claims him, he is going to be on our IR list. Therefore his salary then is guaranteed unless the Pats release him from the IR with a settlement.

It was on Mike Reiss's blog. But you are right. Prob got a PS salary and not a roster salary.

Good. That also shows that the Patriots are a quality front office, and know the value of such support for a player.

It is a good thing, but it's also a leaguewide contractual requirement rather than a matter of individual team values.

Cox will get rookie minimum not PS pay if he is on IR for the year. He will also get credited with a year of service! Not bad for a player that was not going to make the team.
