Trey Flowers: “We’ve got six, we want seven.”

I think they kinda have a projection but sometimes get it wrong. Lombardi talked about how they misread the market with Hicks after 2015 on one of his first GM Street stints right after the Falcons SB.

Either way fingers crossed that they can somehow get it done. But once we hit 15m+ you gotta wonder if that is still worth it.

I think 15 per season is our cut off. He will get higher offers from other teams, up to him if he’s willing to settle for a little less.

Aside from Gilly Trey is the most important member of the defense. He does "feel" like a $15m player.

With that said that would mean they value him more than they did Chandler Jones.

I don't think there is any question that they value him more than Chandler Jones. Flowers is a better overall football player than Jones who was essentially a one trick (but damn good) pass rusher. Unfortunately this is not a particularly valuable skill set (because too narrow) once you are off the rookie deal around here.

I just think that if you can get 80% of Flowers from someone that only costs half the money (or even less) then this is the way BB and Caserio will go.

Also: are we completely discounting the idea that Flowers might be willing to stay for a bit cheaper?

That's a given. Much more so than w Solder IMO. Flowers as much as said it himself.
Still even the discount price might be too high for what BB sees reasonable for the way NE uses DE. Then again few players come close TF on “i want to coach players i like“ list.

Hoping for a nice cupcake tour and a happy return (but not expecting it)..

I think so as well. Problem is getting a player who can provide a pass rush AND stop the run are rare.

I have trust in BB / our coaches to scheme around losing Flowers. They have been doing this **** forever.

Stay here, make millions, win rings, be a legend.

OR

Go someplace else, make millions +, maybe win, maybe not, unknown on the legend thing.

It comes right down to what makes you happy. Chandler Jones might be happy making bank and playing for a chitty team. Flowers is gonna make his money, it's a question on what's mportant to him. We will find out.

Nope, can't even rate that post funny...even if it is.

That's not surprising. I think even us fans could see even 2016 Trey Flowers > Chandler Jones. And Flowers has only looked better and better each season. This past season I haven't seen him taken to the ground much, one of more pleasing improvements I've seen from 2017 to 2018.

Chandler Jones is all fluff. Trey Flowers is a complete player and a beast!

In violent agreement....

Why is this thread a thing?

I think the OP took the tweet and felt it was some kind of information which made him/her believe Trey was leaning towards staying. Its interesting but like you not sure its worthy of a thread.

I agree with other posters, 15 million and then it's up to Trey.

If Trey says, "no", BB will pay a pass rusher and another DL a combined $12 million. (80% of the 15 million he would have paid Trey.)

Probably not. But it certainly isn’t a bad sign. If you’re Flowers and your intention is to get out of Dodge, you don’t say that phrase. He could and might still leave of course, someone could make him an offer he can’t refuse. But it’s certainly a sign that things haven’t deteriorated to the point that it’s inevitable.
