Trade Candidates

Gibson is dirt cheap and also was our best RB last year. Until the rookie surpasses him in actual gametime, it's hard to let Gibson go. Especially when you won't get much back.

Anyways, the vast majority of these guys are at best 6th or 7th round conditional pick trades. If that.
That's the real problem. We don't have anyone who would command a premium pick in return. Even Matthew Judon, who was our best pass rusher, only gave us back a 3rd round pick.

Thankfully the Judon pick turned into Jared Wilson, a potential starter at center whom we took in the 3rd, plus a future 4th round pick from Chicago in 2026.

And the only reason we got a 3rd is because of how desperate Atlanta was for a pass rusher.

a 3rd round pick is a premium pick
Jared Wilson will be the starting OC within this season and thru the course of his rookie contract
I don't see any of the listed players on this thread returning a pick prior to the 5th round.
that said some of them of course have value. Tavai, Jennings, Lowe,...in the right schemes could be of value to teams that suffer injuries over the summer. perhaps Bourne, Boutte. surely teams did extensive scouting on Polk and I assume most teams liked him a lot.

Lowe is hard to keep at LT because he is only a LT?

1) We need a backup LT. Lowe is good enough to be a backup, certainly until someone proves to be better as a LT.

2) Lowe is OK as a backup RT, although Wallace will likely have that role.

3) It would it be better if Lowe was also a solid backup LG. Certainly, that is a plus for a patriot LT!
If you listen to Barth and Lazar they insist Lowe is a LT only and not a guard. You need backups with positional flexibility.

Maybe given that Onwenu can kick out to RT it allows Lowe to stick, but Ideally he never plays a snap.

I agree we need a competent LT back up. Not sure if Wallace or Bryant are up to the task.

The LG position has been an absolute **** show and one of the most frustrating situations of the last few years. How is it that we don't have a competent starter after all of the draft capital we've spent there? Hopefully Campbell gets the job done at LT, but if he needs to kick inside so be it. If Campbell sticks at LT and LG is still a mess, we need to solve the LG position in next year's draft or FA once and for all.

If you haven't already done so play around with the Patriot's Picker and try and come up with a 53 man roster. There are going to be some tough decisions to make (relatively speaking). We are in a rebuild and I think there is room to consider whether we should be running with the best 53 of today at the risk of losing potential rookie upside.
keep the rookie with potential.

I don’t think they can get much for the guys they would part with, and they really don’t have the depth to be trading guys who would make the 53.

keep the rookie with potential.

Agree completely, but there will be exceptions. E.g… I don’t think they will keep a Dippre over Hooper because Maye loves throwing to his TE, and Hooper can play Henry’s role when he goes down, which he will at some point in the season.

Room for one player for those that don't like his snubs lol (no Mapu or Boutte/Bourne).

I'd think we'd need a 5th corner too.

Tyrese Robinson over Cole Strange?
I didn't even notice that. It doesn't seem like Vrabel is in love with him but not making the team at all seems unlikely. Maybe the knees still messed up.

I agree.

Polk is a sunk cost, if he doesn’t show great improvement this preseason then move on.

I would 100% keep Chism over Polk just based on what we have seen so far without pads.
WOW!

If you can make a 100% decision to keep Chism over Polk without seeing either in pads, perhaps you should be working for an NFL team.

Polk SUCKS, he proved it last year.

Jus sayin'

Polk proved nothing last year other than a rookie WR sometimes needs some coaching.

If he were drafted in the 4th, I suspect that almost everyone would be thinking that he should have another chance to show that he might be good enough to be the #5 WR.
=======
Almost all of us simply disagree with all the scouts and analysts who saw his college tape and believed that he was at least a 4th round quality draft pick.
===========
We'll see what happens in camp and the scrimmages. I suspect that he would be claimed by a WR needy team. Many have a 5th or 6th receiver that they might consider cutting to sign Polk.
===========
JUST BY THE WAY
It is quite possible that Polk will indeed not make the 53. My point is that he will be given a chance to compete with Bourne (likely traded), Boutte, Baker (the nutcase) and Chism for the 5th and 6th WR roster spots.

We have four WR's. We will carry 5 or 6. Let the competition begin. I have no strong feelings that any of the five should be ruled out until late, late in camp. As always, the issue is the quality of the top four compared to other teams. These five compare well to the #5 and #6 of most other teams.
BOURNE, BOUTTE, BAKER, POLK, CHISM

We saw Polk in pads last season.

That was enough to make what Chism has showed without pads enough better to seem compelling.

Look to age and contracts… next year’s free agent list will tell us more than guessing.
