Through 12 weeks.. thoughts on Gordon?

Gordon’s current form without his prior speed: Better version of 2014 Lafell, Top 30 WR in the league.

If his speed came back he’d be right there with all the top guys. Any idea of how that could happen at age 27? If there’s still hope his deep speed could come back then he could be a stud next year.

Gordon losing his top end speed is not necessarily a bad thing. The deep ball has never been the Old GOAT's strong suit.:) Did I mention Brady's fades??:D

I think the question should be asked in a context.

If you asked me on Day 1 if from Flash, the Pats were able to get 31/547 17.6 ypc and 2 TDs AND be 8-3 AND be 2 seed I'd be doing backflips naked outside.

If you ask me now.....Still very pleased but there is room for improvement.

I think Gordon have a 200yds game in him...I would love to see him do it against the Vikes - Miami or the Steelers.

No question.

Since the Chicago game his pace over 16 games would have him with 70 rec 1353 yards which 1353 would have him top 5 all-time single season for Pats

Welker 1569 (2011)
Moss 1493 (2007)
Morgan 1491 (1986)
Welker 1354 (2012)
Welker 1348 (2009)
Gronk 1327 (2010)

I started at Chicago because at that point he had been practicing in the system for 4 weeks

Dam Welker was incredible

I’m happy with Gordon. He seems to be getting with the program

I am rooting for the guy SO much. He seems to be fitting in well. I think he’ll continue to have some big/huge plays down the stretch. I love how Brady was acknowledging his great catch yesterday. He’s incredibly talented.
I'm not sure "incredibly talented" is the right term, PJ. When he came here all I could remember was the slant route and run away from Talib play from a few years ago. I have seen NONE of that speed in evidence since he's been here. Maybe it's gone. Maybe it was never there. But the fact his that Gordon has not shown that he's an explosive athlete any more.

That being said, his hands ARE world class. He's big. He's tough, and seems to be a decent route runner. All in all he's certainly an asset in passing game, with a little bit of an upside as he gets better integrated in the offense.

I think we need to manage our expectations. He is NOT a second coming of Randy Moss. I see a better comparison with Anquan Boldin at his best with the Ravens. A guy with elite hands, a big target, and able to win more than his share of one on one balls in all parts of the field. If he can become THAT, then I don't care if he can't run by anyone anymore.

One thing we gotta remember is Gordon didn’t have a training camp or anything this year. I’d of been surprised if he was flying and looking quick this season. Next year I imagine he will look “quicker”

Anyway I’d of taken his production straight away, he’s been brilliant for us.

I thought he looked noticeably more sharp, quick, and explosive yesterday (relative to previous weeks).

Presumably he’s working his way into shape.

The thing that is obvious with Gordon is that as a WR he can run the Enitre Route tree he's not limited. And one thing that sticks out when he played in Cleveland is how well he ran those underneath routes. I kept saying to myself Gordon is not a one trick pony he runs Edelman type Routes. Those Drags - crosses - Slants and so on. He just got here literally and he's making some noise...would love to see him after a full Off-season and TC.

See, for me, he’s exceeding my expectations, so I may actually feel the opposite. I was concerned that he wouldn’t be able to pick up the system as quickly and may not buy into the Patriot Way.

Have we ever seen a WR contribute so much without having the benefit of an offseason? He’s an in-season acquisition. Pretty impressive, thus far.

He's not Randy Moss fast but I think Gordon's supposed slowness is being overstated by some folks here. I also think he'll play faster as a) he gets fully into football shape and b) the offense become second nature instead of something he has to cram for every week because he joined it mid-season.

In the meantime he's already shown major positives. Basically we're seeing the realistic best-case scenario playing out for us.

He's still here (a surprise to many) and he's still getting acclimated to the finer points of the ffense. His explosion off the ball, and his overall quicks, in comparison to his pre-suspension days, are still lagging. But the hope is that will resolve itself in time.

He has been a solid contributor despite being elsewhere during the summer training camp and that is an accomplishment. Think of Ocho-Cinco, Joey Galloway, Aaron Dobson, and a whole lengthy cast of characters that were drafted or signed here and never figured out the scheme well enough to contribute.

* His off the field behavior has been exemplary so far. (Knocks on wood)

I guess this is one of those what is the definition of “is?”

As you described him, to me that equates incredibly talented. If we just want to say big, strong, fast, great hands- I’ll take that too.

I know Josh is not Moss but Boldin is one of my favorite non-Pats WRs ever... I’ll take his second coming anytime!

27yrs old is the middle of his prime years. His speed is still there is will just take a while to get back and considering he hasn’t played competitively for the last couple of years because of all the suspension he has a lot more left in the tank. But it doesn’t really matter because With his hands and size and developing chemistry, we got a good player.

I don't start threads but I was curious what people's thoughts are on Josh Gordon after 12 weeks... I was skeptical when they made the trade but I think it has paid off this season. Do you think there is any way he is a Patriot next year?

Thanks.
Absolutely Awesome!!!! I think he is going to only get better game by game....and by playoffs teams of offensive coordinators and specialists will be pouring over film TRYING to figure out how to stop Josh Gordon
