Patriots Injury News Thornton injury update

I don't see this injury as much as an issue as some. Thornton was most likely going to be the 5th WR in the depth chart in this rookie year. And with a proven veteran in Agholor that can also stretch defenses...I don't see a problem especially as well as Agholor has been playing in camp. 17 games is a long season...especially for a rookie. This gives Thornton some time to review his tape and others to see how he can improve his route running and technique. And maybe during this time he can put on a few pounds of fat for cushion purposes if he or the coaching staff thinks that's a good thing. I think he is going to come back in 6-8 weeks and will make an impact when he plays.

I think the first thing to point to is your slotting him in as the WR5, and whether or not that's what people were seeing, either to start the season or over the course of the season.

Yeah that’s the first thing I mentioned…5th WR. A large majority of the time he has been running with the 2nd and 3rd team.

Right. What I'm saying is that people looking at your position there might disagree with how you have that slotted, either because they think Thornton would have gotten to the point of being WR4 or higher by week one, or because they think that Thornton would have taken longer to get to WR4 or higher, but would have done so at some point during the season. Your position largely hinges on that not happening (I don't really have a take on it either way, as I was waiting to see the kid play against starters in a more serious situation in the 3rd game, so I'm agreeing/disagreeing with either angle, but am just putting it out there).

I appreciate you speaking for people that might disagree with me. All good

What are the “current” rules for IR as far as minimum games TT has to miss, 4?

perfect excuse for bill the coach/gm to redshirt Thornton and use his roster spot for a coveted kick/punt coverage/garbage DB guy....best of both worlds for coach Bill....takes speed of the field and gives him another gunner

Gunners ARE speed on the field.

A broken collarbone suffered in preseason game 2. That's not doing young Tyquan any favors for his development. He's likely to miss at least the first 2 months of the season. OOF. You can't predict injuries, but dang if the Patriots lack of luck at drafting the WR position just continues to haunt the team.

Why not PUP Thornton and keep a hold of Humphries given how serious the injury is? Oh well, who knows how BB's mind works when it comes to wide receivers.

Maybe they are hoping to grab another team's castoff to fill in at WR until Thornton is back healthy?

A player can't go on PUP after he's practiced even once.

Didn't we have a debate in here about whether or not Tyquan was too skinny after we drafted him?
