The Ryan Izzo makes the 53 thread.

Waste of an IR-Return designation.

Ok, I was ridiculed, laughed but, not gloating.

Come on though He was so good; he made the club from the tub!

According to Mark Daniels

Ryan Izzo made the initial 53-man roster. He'll be IR'd tomorrow, which means he'll be able to return

Sup Family.

I don’t understand why people get so ornery about the idea of “wasting” the return slots. Worst case scenario, you just keep the later injured player on the roster like the good old days. They’ll get by without a replacement 53rd guy if they need to.

So you were completely wrong about Izzo being able to contribute this year and because the team wants to have the emergency option to bring him back from IR in case someone gets dinged up he will be on the 53 for 24h. Congratulations..

Everything happened exactly as some people in this thread laid it out for you. Gronk, Allen and Hollister were locks. But who cares about reality.

Sup Family.

Yes, you were all over Ryan Izzo from back in college.

From what I saw in preseason, Izzo is an awesome blocker and looked like he had the skills to develop into an adequate receiver as well. I see him as a starting TE in the league.

Everyone is disappointed in the failure of the 2016 draft, but this year Bentley and Izzo might be two huge surprise finds.

Who knows??? Izzo & Hollister could develop into a poor man's version of Gronk/Hernandez down the road.

Please show us those snaps of Izzo where he was an "awesome" blocker. Just 3-4 examples.

He has a good frame and might be able to challenge Allen for a roster spot next year if he bulks up more, learns proper technique and can handle the intense mental aspect of being a TE (needs to know all protection schemes as well as all the receiving routes).

But for now he is as much a developmental prospect as Berrios.

Also to make it clear he didnt even make the 53 in theory as he was seemingly moved to IR to early to be elgible to return this year. Or in other words he got redshirted because he is nowhere close yet.

Yes it appears horrible reporting or more likely the Patriots changed their plans based on medical plus two claims went through. But doesn't change how highly the Patriots think of him, if it is the later.

I saw Izzo consistently open up holes when he played game one. All RBs looked like a HOFer when he was on the field. Izzo played with the first teamers game two on short yardage and I saw him open a huge hole taking out two defenders. The running game looked stalled after his injury. And he caught some passes too.

They wouldn't have cut Izzo if he continued to play like this. Most likely they were reluctantly cutting him hurt. Why so negative?

Because he is nowhere near a NFL level TE yet. Not even close. He got stashed for an ankle injury which is code for "we don't want to expose you to waivers because we like you but you are not close to be a contributor". Another case of the Foxboro flu.

In a year if he keeps working and develops right he has a chance to win the blocking TE role from Allen.
