I was looking at the Patriots depth charts and roster. For the first time I counted how many rookies are on the 53 roster man roster. Sure I know of all of them as individuals but when you actually do a head count, that is 10 rookies (counting UDFA Hoyer).

If you count Tate, who seemed to make the 53 and then went out on IR, that's 11. We don't know about McKenzie who is also on IR.

I can't remember a contending team with so many rookies on the roster. maybe there were some. NO has 4, I think.

This could be one of the best rookie classes that we have had, equaling the 2004 class.

I was thinking the same thing last week. I have a good memory, but off-hand i'd be hard pressed to think of a pats draft that has produced so many good contributing picks....So far.

Vollmer
Edelman
Chung
Butler
Ingram

Pryor, forgot about him.

The best part about it is that Brace, McKenzie, Tate, Ohrnberger, Bussey, and Richard all seem to be next in line at their positions.

What's also important to note is that every player drafted is still with the team, seven months later. If you look back to 2008, Ruud was gone by the next summer; if you go back to 2007, only Meriweather and Richardson made it to 2008.

The thing is I think that 2010 can be just as good. Probably not as many players making the squad, but the potential to really rebuild the team in some key areas (such as the pass rush and the OL) if we so choose. There's likely to be 2+ rounds of red chippers, and we should be able to pick up quite a few major players. If we get guys of the caliber of Vollmer, Butler and Chung and hit on one or two late picks then we should really have the nucleus of a very young and athletic team that should be a SB contender for years to come.

Don't forget the Pats have two extra second rounders in 2009.

And then there's that Raiders' 1st rounder in 2011.

On top of that, this year's rookie class is going to be even better next year with all of the experience they're getting this season. This team definitely has a very bright future. I still would have loved to get Oher, but this class is not that bad in comparison.

Vollmer is a STUD

great pick...... BEST of the DRAFT especially in terms of value. He has great potential and will only get better with time.

I counted Lockett as he is shown as a rookie and has been a contributor on ST. He was not a Patriots draft choice or even a Patriots UDFA in TC as I recall.

Yeah i did don't know how i with my great memory. Cause he's impressed me a lot.

When i put my list up i was thinking of starters or near starters. The rest are just gravy.

If we count Lockett, we can't forget Hoyer as well, who has been very good during his short time with us. Not saying I'm ready to see him start, but I don't think anyone thought he'd be the primary back-up to Brady all season long.

And this year's draft class has been just amazing. It's only one year so we should wait before passing judgment, but has the potential to be the best BB draft class ever.

One of the "extra 2nds" could become another '11 first... who knows what the wizard has in mind. No matter who they take, here's what I like about the Seymour trade (and all other trades for future picks) - coaches don't trade for #1s in two years unless they intend to BE THERE to pick them. The year BB decides to go all out and not move up in future years is when I'm gonna get nervous.

Hoyer was one one of those that was an UDFA and in TC this year, so yes he counts.

Ironically, MacKenzie is the one I'm most excited about long-term.

My bad, I didn't read the OP too carefully. I should wait until I drink 2 full cups of coffee before posting

Agree 2010 could be a hell of a boon for us in a couple years we could actually be one of the younger teams in the league

and the best thing about almost ALL these rookies is that....theyre stealing playing time from the established starters/veterans

which is amazing, it shows that not only were they good enough to keep on the 53, but are good enough to PLAY in their first years...

color me excited

Agreed. This isn't a situation where the team is so bad, they have to play the kids (like KC). This team went 11-5 last year and is competing for the #2 seed in the AFC this season. These kids have earned their PT.

23. Michael Oher

or

41. Darius Butler
83. Brandon Tate
232. Julian Edelman
2010 JAX second-rounder
plus getting the Sea Beast at 58

Oher ain't bad, but he can't play WR and CB too.
