***The official Week 1 OTHER GAMES thread***

Am I the only one who prays this team is in a good enough position when we play Denver, where we can sit Gronk the whole game. Derby and Bennett. Ive been saying it for years, Denver is the dirtiest team by a large margin. Von Miller is scum, and TJ ward is right there with them. Every play I get nervous watching Gronk when we play them. Id much rather just have them beat them down without him, and sit him as a statement.

We would be lucky to score 10 points.

Actually, we don't really know if they're good or not. Could turn out they're both mediocre. Or good. Or bad. Very hard to tell week one.

I didn't think that was a great game, by any stretch. It was a close game, which is usually entertaining, but a lot of it seemed pretty damned sluggish to me.
Totally agree. Denver's D is still good, but they get away with so much that it's hard to gauge them against other teams. The Patriots would have been flagged over and over for what they did last night. The first month rarely tells us much about any of the teams which is good since the Patriots often start out slow.

Broncos D is still a force, offense is better w/o Manning. They'll still be a pain in the ass this season..

Strongly disagree. They [barely] beat Carolina at home last night, who was healthy, but I expected them to. I predicted it in this thread, because I knew Carolina wasn't the kind of team that could match up well against Denver. However, before last night (I'm including all of last season) they hadn't defeated a single top contender, in either conference, that hadn't been decimated by injury (and they had the fewest man games lost to injury.)

I think there are several teams that could lay a beating on them this season and prevent them from winning their division. NE, Indy, Cincy, Oakland (one game), and KC could very well sweep them.

This board hated cam newton all last season(his entire career TBH) and now is pretending give a **** about his safety because they hate the broncos organization even more
I don't care for him but that was insane. Someone is going to die on the field again and if they let them play like this it will be sooner than later. If I were his parent I would beg him to retire now. In 5 or 10 years he could be a drooling mess with hits like this. The concussion CTE story continues to grow and the NFL cannot allow what we saw last night. If it were the Patriots headhunting like was done last night I would say the same thing. The bigger issue is that the NFL allowed it and did not stop the game to at least check on him. Think of a boxing ref who will stop the action to look a boxer in the eyes and asses.

No player deserves that kind of beating. By not penalizing those hits, you are effectively telling the defender it's ok to go for the head.

Nah, I've been a fan of Cam since he exposed so many people's prejudices last year (including many on this board).

Just an aside: that last helmet hit on Newton looked worse at regular speed than in slow-motion.

Vicious, fine-worthy hit. Shouldn't have been off-set by the grounding penalty either, because Newton was hit and had a missile coming at him from another direction as he was throwing.

That was the kind of hit that got Brandon Meriweather a trip out of town a few years ago. Wholly uncalled for.

Just because I don't like a player doesn't mean I want to see him take multiple cheap shots to the head and clearly get concussed.

I thought Siemen played all right but he was helped by Anderson. That won't happen against the Patriots.

Patriots have always struggled with the Denver running game when in Denver. We don't know how good or bad the Patriots run defense is yet.

The Pats throughout history have always struggled when in Denver period. I don't think that will change anytime soon.

The forum was pretty split.

Meh.

Their run game wasn't doing **** in the regular season game last year and then Hightower had is knee taken out and it did nothing in the playoff game when Hightower and Collins were playing, 30 rushes 99 yards and 42 of those came on a 30 yard run by Anderson in the 4th qtr and a 12 yard run by Manning. Take those 2 runs away and it was 28 rushes 57 yards, 2.0 ypc

But at the end of the day we still lost both of those games, so that's all that really matters. The final score is the most important stat. Denver has always been tough.

Agreed, Cam is pretty informative in that respect. It took him winning an MVP for people to acknowledge that he isn't awful, and for his own team's fans to widely acknowledge that he's a better starting option than Derek Anderson.

Few observations this morning.

Carolina has to be the worst team at time management, I dont understand the lack of urgency on getting plays in, getting up to the line of scrimage etc. Doesn't make sense and for all the "River boat Ron" crap he has serious game management problems on of the basics of football. Think about if they had a measly 30 seconds extra, I suspect they win that game, big "if" of course.

I dont know about Cam, I dont think he is the smartest guy playing QB, he often looks confused. I think he runs a lot because he cant read defenses, ....and he is a very good athlete.

Trevor looked pretty good for his first start, I would like to see a similar performance from Jimmy G without the INT's and the few times Trevor lead his guys into potential harm. But while folks here in my office today are anointing him already lets see how he does when DC's start seeing more film on him after a few games, capabilities, vulnerabilities, tendencies etc. and start game planning him.

Initially I didnt think for either team losing Malik Jackson or Josh Norman was a big deal, I was so very wrong. Those are glaring losses after watching that game. While some folks hate Collingworth he does point out some things that make sense, the 5 step (10 yard) drop by Cam no longer an issue because Denver cant push the line without Jackson and Cam can take a 3 step drop instead, it will affect Von all season, he is fast but not someone that can push the pile so to speak. Norman is a good defender period, coverage and run defense, it showed. (sidebar - no matter what the money is why go to Washington of all places, ugh)

Right now I dont think either team looks scary to me, but Denver's defense is still very good. But one game is clearly way to early to determine any kind of trending of what the season will look like, just like the Pats and AZ, no matter what happens Sunday it doesn't mean much long term. Maybe a HFA issue, who knows at this point.

I have met Derek Wolfe and he is really a good kid, I like him, but he complained after the game about some cheap shots on him. Maybe. But his team is like the cheap shot kings.

Finally I hate when Collingworth gushes over guys as much as anyone but the guy sees the game better than any other announcer I can name right now. If thats not true then tell me who to listen to please. I can ignore the gushing for good play calling.

No one was talking about how the games went or how Denver is tough to play. What was being talked about was the running game, I made two points that are 100% facts. My f**cking word some of you pessimistic doom-and-gloom trolls really should pick your spots better because you make it so obvious.

Nunchucks: Pats always struggle with Denver's run game
Me: They didn't last year when Hightower was playing
You: Pats lost both those games.

No f**king **** sherlock. That wasn't what was being talked about what was being talked about was how Pats always struggle against their run game and me showing evidence of that not being the case last year.
