Was not happy with this pick at first, but the more you think about it , we need another tackle, and he is mature and german and you know what they drink in germany... BEER... DA BOOOT..

considering we have 8 picks in rounds 2 and 3, im ok with one of them being a complete reach on a german giant

I was at first a wondering a bit about him...BUT who can question a guy that big and quick with an upside...SEA BASS...That was his nick....The guy will be fine..a bit of a surprise..but he's a mauler..and with Mankins who is like that as well..the line just got bigger and nastier..LOVE IT!!! Oh..the connection?? Apparently one of the receiver coaches...father is a trainer on the Houston squad...so they have been watching him for awhile.

Have at it, gentlemen! My contribution: Hey, we didn't know who Logan Mankins was, either!

He's clearly an intriguing prospect. I like the fact that he went to the US from Germany, which takes some courage. Apparently, his English wasn't all that great at the time, either. He's raw so I guess he's a project. Oh, and I like the fact that a thread about a German was started by a guy with the username of "ungeheuer".

The linguistic snob in me would also like to take this opportunity to show off and say that the "V" is pronounced like an "F" in English. "FOLL-muh" is a pretty accurate pronunciation, although the "ll" is pronounced slightly differently from the English ll.

Well, I picked him as my official sleeper prospect on here back in February, so I'm happy.

Lord Vollmermort.. I can see him mystifying defenses with his own special brew of whoop arse.

He was over here playing soccer at was recruited from there...he's got a big upside..has played the game, but still learning. I see the only down side is that he's 25 this year...a bit older...but??

When I read the info on him, got me to thinking is this the TE of the future???? Playing multiple positions is a benefit..

1. I accepted the pick when it was announce.

2. I like the pick now.

3. I wonder if he can be the back up kicker (!)

4. 25 years for an offensive lineman doesn't seem to be an issue, right? Its not like it is with QBs, RBs and WRs.

I checked the 3 draft guides that I have. One had him as a priority FA, another didn't have him listed, and the 3rd had by his name.

This is just the type of guy that could come in and be a solid starter in a year or he couold be a wasted pick. We will see.

Scar is a big part of this type of pick - for crying out loud, he makes wrestlers into millionaires ! And Levoirs into contributors. Surely he can take a huge monster and transform him into a starter down the road.

This is the type of chance you can take when you have a lot of mid picks. Always possible someone else saw what we did, it's a small world of information, I'm sure.

By the way, if you were looking at a program of "experts" picks while watching the draft, you might have thought you turned to the wrong channel. Pre-draft "objective" information is becoming increasingly irrelevant as teams run specialized systems and covet different players.

I think he's projected as our future LT, therefore a steal. He's very light on his feet, strong enough to take on a bull rush and he's got those arms.

If we wanted a RT, many decent road graders with better resumes were probably available

Well, he could be taller... in the NBA! PS, in the subconscious pun department, Light on his feet. Heh heh.

Spot on about the "expert" picks. That's what amuses me about draft crit in general. When a guy falls down the draft boards in say February or March, without some precipitating event, well, that just happens. When a guy just doesn't get drafted in the "right" spot in April, suddenly the team in question reached... because basically, the "experts" were just wrong about when he would be taken. But it's the "experts" making that judgement. Hey, maybe the next team down didn't read your column either!

By far the most satisfying part of this draft is having a face of the JEST for many, many years to come, whose name is a synonym for a particularly unpleasant quasi-sexual practice; the only thing that could be better is if play-by-play guys called QB play like they called baseball pitchers and could say "Sanchez just has filthy stuff today!"

He is almost impossible to bull rush because he does a decent job of sinking his hips for such a huge man.

That's funny, I read that he got bull rushed and pushed back fairly consistently. I was amazed we would draft a guy like that. :confused2:

He is German = he will be good. I love it. Vollmer is my next jersey.

Here are my comments from 4/20 when i selected Vollmer for Miami in the Patsfan Mock (pick #108).

Mike Mickens and Sebastian Vollmer both have tremendous upside imo. Especially Vollmer.

This kid is a little raw (much like Barwin on the defensive side of the ball), but he is a giant and has all the physical tools, mental make-up, and work ethic, to be a successful tackle at the next level. He's the type of player I hope fly’s under the radar a bit and NE takes a flyer on in the later rounds.

The only reason this kid is so raw is that he got a late start playing the game (age 14) in Germany (entering college in the states he barely spoke a lick of English). Even still with the limited amount of time he has had, he's developed into a quality player who I think is going to continue to get better.

I really am high on this guy. I think he's gonna be solid for us.

The Pats know what they're doing. It's just that armchair GMs like to think they know more than the Pats. I know the Pats have made mistakes in the draft but they are right more often than not.[/QUOTE]

There are armchair GM'S on this board? The most successful team of the "00" gets questioned and insulted by the Al Bundey's and Hank Hill's of the world.
