He's in the WRs face. He can either turn for the ball or merely stay facing him until the ball arives and knock it lose. He just starts putting his arms all over his man, for no apparent reason. His instincts are highly questionable. Those are all fixable flaws, but McCourty never seems to improve on them.

This is McCourtys biggest problem, there are just too many times that he does not look for the ball....

What i dont get is these teams have 400 positional coaches, surely it cant be hard to get Mallet, and a receiver on the practice field and drill it into him

This, his positioning is usually good but he won't look for the damn ball.

This is why McCourty will keep being awful. Third year in the league and he still can't comprehend that he is supposed to play the ball or just look for it every now and then. At least down do it in the endzone.

Some people are so desperate to defend the guy.

Its the last piece of the puzzle for McCourty. He just has to learn to turn for the the ball, and he'll be a true #1 CB. He had great coverage on that play. He just didn't turn his head. BTW there was very LITTLE contact on that play
