Well, at least if he's rugby standout we know one thing for sure. He's one tough S.O.B. :rocker:

Among Buckeyes with NFL Draft dreams, Nate Ebner's is rather special | cleveland.com

Nate Ebner is listed as a safety but played just a handful of defensive snaps as a Buckeye. But after opening eyes at the school's pro day in March, Ohio State's best special teams player from a year ago is completely focused on taking a shot at the NFL and making an international rugby career just a backup plan.

Ebner was timed as fast as a 4.48 in the 40 at the pro day, showed his agility with a fast time in the three-cone drill and did well in the broad and vertical jumps. He figured he might do well at the tests, and what he proved is that at about 215 pounds, he could be a raw athlete with a lot of room for growth. That should make him worth a look as an across-the-board special teams player, either in the draft or in free agency. He has continued to talk with NFL teams since pro day.

It's actually an interesting story. He could push someone like Tracey White for a special teams spot...younger and cheaper.

People biatching about a sixth round pick?!? This is a round you can gamble on a player like this. Let's face it. On a team like this, a sixth rounder is facing an uphill battle to make the 53 man roster anyway. Take a project and see if you can make something out of him.

Nah, he played Rugby Union....a sport in which you can get suspended for making a shoulder charge

ProFootballWeekly.com - Draft Prospect - Nate Ebner

An elite rugby player, Ebner did not play football in high school, instead competing internationally on the pitch. Walked on at Ohio State, earning a scholarship and the respect of his teammates by excelling on special teams. Races down the field like a bat out of hell and hunts returners like a heat-seeking missile. Has been a dedicated workout enthusiast his whole life and it showed at pro day — bench-pressed 225 pounds 23 times and ran the 60-yard shuttle in 10.99 seconds, illustrating his conditioning level. Also recorded surprising athletic numbers, including a 39-inch vertical leap, broad jump of 10 feet 8 inches, short-shuttle time of 4.04 seconds and a 3-cone time of 6.59 seconds. Square-jawed, mentally tough, competitive overachiever with a wedge buster’s mentality (relishes contact) who will be given the opportunity to carve a niche as a special-teams demon. Has leadership traits and is the type you root for.

Well you can't be too disappointed in what that summary has to say.

This guy will tackle and his numbers point to being athletic. He comes from a big school. I'm not unhappy, he'll compete for time and has a chance based on STs.

Just love the NE and GB -----all defensive players....LOL

Every year it's the same thing.

B!tch and moan and whine and cry because someone's binkie didn't get drafted by the Patriots..

B!tch and moan and whine and cry because the Patriots do things people don't understand..

Who cares that you haven't actually interviewed the kid so you really don't know how he interacted with Belichick or the position coach.

Who cares that you haven't sat with the kid to review film to see what the kid knows or doesn't know.

Who cares that you didn't work the kid out personally so you'd know whether or not he could handle being coached up or taking criticism..

They had to take him now. They were worried about someone moving up to get hm.

Nate Ebner
6'0
202 lbs.
40: 4.54
20: 2.64
10: 1.56

Bench: 23 reps
Vertical: 39 inches
Broad: 10' 08"
Shuttle: 4.04
3 cone: 6.59

The ones in bold really stand out to me.. Love to hear from some Ohio St. Fans on the kid..

Pretty impressive pure athlete, and a rugby tough guy. Why the heck not? I always like to see "shoot the moon" picks in the late round -- extra-long long shots with rare raw potential.

Both our new safeties had their father murdered. Sheesh. Reason to cheer for them.

At least OTG got his rugby player wish.

I know the scouting department knows far more than I do, but if they wanted a DB what exactly does the rugby player bring to the table that CB Chase Minnifield, SS Antonio Allen or FS Aaron Henry do not? Rugby mentality for special teams?

But everyone on here is a draft expert!

The intelligent point was made recently that the hardest position for amateur draftniks to grade is safety (and the reason why they always seem to come off the board in a strange order each year) because most of these people don't have access to the coach's tape, which makes it pretty impossible to evaluate safety play.
