Good receiver before his injury.
Also a great punt returner.
Deep threat.

Good pick.

Not sure how well he rushes the passer though.

I don't know anything about Tate. I hope he works out.

Gil Brandt said he's one of 9 players in College history to return a punt and kick off for a touchdown in the same game. A monster talent who hung out with the wrong crowd. Kirwan said BB won't tolerate that in N.E. and this was a good pick.

Tate early in the 2008 season was one of the biggest stories. He was absolutely dominating receiving and returning kicks and there was even some Heisman-type buzz. He was changing games that much. Then he blew out his knee halfway thru.

Maybe he is a PUP/IR guy for a year and that saves one roster spot.

What character issues?

He failed a drug test at the combine for marijuana.

Well he's an excellent kick returner and he reminds me of Deion Branch the way they describe him on offense.

He's really, really talented but I'm worried about the above red flag. I suppose BB did his homework, so in BB we trust.

He apparently likes weed...

Sign of good character.

Negatives: Torn ACL and MCL in October means he won't be able to answer questions about his straight-line speed until after the draft. Primarily a return specialist until flashing as a receiver as a senior. A bit raw as a route-runner. Relies on his athletic ability in this area, rather than precise footwork. Lets too many passes get into his pads.

Not much of a route runner.

Great punt and kick returner... also has a lot of potential.. more depth.

This is the kind of pick you can afford to make when you have 50 draft picks. It's a pick that's well worth the gamble.

Could be a Curtis Martin like pick. Not comparing rb-wr, but both probably would of went in the first round had they not been injured. I really like this pick. Ofcourse there will always be questions regarding Tates knee but the mracle of medicine and surgical procedures is always hopeful. I'm assuming the Pats med staff did their homework on that knee and it checked out fine.

Tate and Tommy can compare notes on their knees

I'm sure they've had fairly recent experience evaluating knee injuries...

You mean the medical staff of the NFL team that consistently leads the league in games lost to injury evry freaking year?

Mayock on Tate:

-Best returner in the country last year and in the draft
-"Was working his way into the first round before his injury"
- ACL tear and drug test took him off the board
- Likely be a PUP this year, but could be like getting first round pick next year

Hmm.... Ok. Tate is someone that I didn't have on the board. I felt that Wallace, Collie, Kelly, and others rated out much better than Tate.

Especially as players who could also kick return/punt return.

iam always wary of WR with our offense since it seems too complicated for rookies sometimes.
mayock thinks its a PUP /IR situation this yr and more of a pick for next yr.

That's three out of the four gone

And the Giants continue to try to cover for Eli's lack of talent by getting him receivers.

NFLN seem to like the Tate pick. What was ESPN's take on it?
