The Mahomes/Chiefs Discussion Thread

Stupid question. They should have made the timeframe clear. You can tell from the comments that people were interpreting it differently. Some people voted Mahomes because he's "more talented physically" which doesn't mean he's better or the GOAT. Some voted on who's "better" right now which based on what we saw this season is Mahomes. Some went with GOAT status and most of those commenting here were agreeing it's Brady.

Show me poll results for the specific question: "which QB is the greatest of all time"? Then we can have a relevant conversation.
Brady put the best QB ever discussion to bed for good. All people can talk about now is who's hoping to catch Montana for 2nd. Mahomes is off to a great start.

Don't worry fellas, Brady is going to get torpedoed by Mahomes soon enough as far as career accomplishments, plus no spygate or deflategate scandals attached to his name. And Mahomes is not just off to a great start, he's has a red hot start. He's on pace for close to 900 TDs if he plays another 15 years. Mahomes can easily play until he's 42. What's going to hurt Brady in the end is that he was not a prolific QB from 2001-2006 and his numbers reflect that.

Godwin plays on offense, so not sure that he is as good of a judge as a defender. Like Joey Bosa:

The key there was Bosa being impressed with what Brady sees and how fast he sees it. That's the same thing that Bill said that he noticed about Brady in 2001. Bill called it incredible.

Lulz @ a scrambling QB playing into his 40's

That's another thing I like about Brady. He doesn't act like he's hurt even when he is.

Meanwhile, in KC they go on and on about injuries that aren't there.

Bingo...besides the major injury in 2008, I can't recall Brady ever wincing. Mahomes plays to the cameras with that garbage and also tries to maximize the highlight reels with his double air jump stuff and the tongue sticking out.

Solid take, although I wouldn't say Mahomes can't catch Brady. I'm thinking of a sport like tennis where Roger Federer destroyed everything that came before him but then Nadal and Djokovic basically did the same thing. Not saying it's going to be the norm to win 7 Super Bowls, but the league has a lot of parity, so if your quarterback is really on another level of greatness, your team should be able to compete for the championship every year. 5 straight AFCCGs already. I don't think Mahomes will win 7 but who knows...

his scrambling ability is not his bread and butter

something funny @The Brandon Five ? Mahomes averages 300 yards per year rushing, and nearly 5000 yards per year passing. Lamar Jackson, in contrast, rushes on average 800 yards per year.

Throwing the ball is his bread and butter, not running. He just happens to be good at both. Brady should have taken notes from him and done some squats or something to improve his running ability.

There you are again with the "scandals." None of which impact how anyone genuinely evaluates Brady's career. Mahomes can live with a big fat asterisk next to his second championship. The refs saved him twice this postseason.

And the regular season numbers won't matter in the end. Mahomes will have started all of his games in the passing era and now with 17 and 18 game seasons. Brady's had to win his 5th ring (and for some his 6th) to get past Montana and Brady's regular season numbers tower over Montana's.

Mahomes will have to reach 7 rings at least but then he'll still have the 0-2 postseason record against Brady (who won his last 2 rings in those postseasons) so he probably needs 8. I don't see Mahomes getting past 4, which is enormously impressive, and will get him to #2 all time, but he won't pass Brady.

The point above is that he scrambles to extend the play. He is undoubtedly great at that. The issue is whether that will afford him the kind of longevity that Tom enjoyed. Mahomes missed games in 4 out of 5 seasons since he became the starter.

Mahomes has taken some good shots over the last couple of years. There's the one hit that made him wobbly and forced Henne in the playoff game. Then his ankle issue this postseason. It's only a matter of time before one puts him out a while. Happens to almost all of them.

Mahomes is a serious threat no doubt and his stock is currently going parabolic. It's easy to think he'll go on forever, but that's not how the NFL works.

As a sometimes-Brady fan, and always Patriots fan, this just cracked me up.

You don't compare to Brady talking about career TDs, like that's where Brady luv came from. You come at it talking about your red-hot start toward that 7-ring total. Ain't happening, big chief.

Chiefs had some good teams and this year, a spooky amount of I wanna say, sympathetic calls. And that all added up to his second ring after 6 years in the league. Brady had 3 by his 5th year, or put another way by his 4th non-redshirt year. Then he took 10 years off, then won 3 more with us and 1 with Tampa.

You can hope and wish and pray, and I'll watch for as long as I stick around on this earth, but I feel fairly secure that even if I'm in decent health, I'll depart knowing I watched the greatest QB ever to play the game. Spoiler: Not Patrick Mahomes.

I mean, he's good though. Maybe about like a Manning.

Who says he has to get to 7? He can go 5-1 or 6-1 in super bowls and that’ll be enough if he can beat Brady in touchdowns, yards, etc

Nobody gives a **** about those records. Brady was considered the GOAT long before he had those records. There was a point where Manning had those records, plus 2 rings, plus a record breaking 5 MVP's and everyone considered Brady the GOAT.

Every fan knows volume stats are meaningless and are highly inflated at the QB and WR positions. The fact that you think they matter much at all shows how desperate you are. Marino had them (nobody considered him the GOAT), Favre had them (nobody considered him the GOAT), Manning had them (nobody considered him the GOAT), Brees had them right before Brady (nobody considered him the GOAT). You can go back to Fran Tarkenton who used to be the stat king. Nobody gives a ****.

You are seriously one of the least knowledgeable people on here that has no sense of history.

Anyways it is now time to put you on ignore like I should have done a year ago when you humiliated yourself all offseason and were wrong in everyway imaginable. Get some perspective

I hate to tell you this, but Mahomes is going to get more than 2 super bowls. He's already ahead of Manning on the list of all time great QBs IMO.

so you admit that Brady's stats are "volume stats." Don't tell @sb1 that.

You complained about me for the past 3 years yet follow me to the Mahomes thread to engage with me. And for the past two seasons I was right about Brady not being able to get it done. He had one lucky year in Tampa.
