The Jets suck (merged)

well if they do I really hope this thread stays open and doesn't magically disappear.

Win or lose the Jets team as constructed is way more interesting than any they have had since Parcells. Should be a fun season.

This thread is an offseason thread. While the Jets will still suck during the regular season, there will be other news that knocks this thread off the front page.

You see, the Jets sucking isn't really breaking news.

And yet this old news spawned a 121 page thread.

Pats fans just love to talk about the Jets.

That's what makes it fun. Just like Sarah Palin, we all know she's old news, but can still spawn a 100 page thread poking fun at her.

:rocker:

Rex Ryan's Gout takes another horrible beating in this thread...now Saints fan has whupped him upside his green pin head.Pretty ironic when you look at it though...a World Champion thumping the bejeezus out of a World Chumpion.

WTF are you talking about...

At least he sticks around though. And if the Jets actually do win the division and go deep into the playoffs, I fully expect him to be the one dishing out the EPIC levels of crow around here. I also expect him to come back and eat it if they flop.

I'll be here.

Keep the politics out of this forum.

It's the offseason. The Jets have been the team making the most noise, particularly in the AFCE.

They've also been the definition of suck in the AFCE since at least as far back as the 70's. I'm not sure why you'd expect anything different.

You're basically saying "Yeah, they suck, but you guys keep saying it." Meanwhile, Jets fan after Jets fan have come along to keep the thread alive by making silly arguments instead of just admitting to the historic futility of that team. So, while the occasional burst of 'real' posts have happened, it's mostly just having fun with a franchise that hasn't really been relevant since its franchise QB was wearing pantyhose.

There once was a fan from New Jersey,
And in to the future he could see,
He saw a Super Bowl ring,
But blinded by bling,
He didn't notice it belonged to Gostkowski.

Saints fan beats the living bejeezus out of the moronic little homer Rat fan and all he can say is..WTF are you talking about??..

even if I explained it AGAIN to you, you STILL wouldn't "get it"...mainly because you, like all Jet fans, were born without a "get it" gene, leaving you armed with a wet sock in a gunfight.

Football outsiders almanac is releasing the Jets chapter as its preview chapter this year. A very fair and balanced piece on the state of the Jets. I'll quote my favorite line.

"A player playing at Revis’ level while getting a comparable usage rate at a different position in 2009 would have set the NFL passing record
by nearly 500 yards, beat out Jerry Rice for the single-season receiving record, or run for 2,000 yards while averaging a record-tying 6.4 yards per carry."

Probably too long for most of your attention spans but it's equal part praise and criticism of the Jets. I'm sure it could add more Jets suck fodder to this thread.

Complete idiocy...but what else should we expect from a little girl trapped in a boy's body, blindly waving his Revis pom poms.

Tell us exactly how this unbelievable "better than all the greats by a huge margin!!!~!~!!!!!!" little boy gaa gaa-istic piece of crap fits into what ACTUALLY happened against the Colts in the playoffs....Greene goes down, The Cheese melts like cheddar on a grill and Peyton passes at will all over your defense in the 2nd half...where's this "all world @!!!! super game changer!!! BETTER THAN ANYBODY AND EVERYBODY BY MILES!!!!" Revis during all this? The answer is, trudging off the field beaten like a little beeatch, like the rest of the green backer inners.

Here's a tip , moron...open your big mouth AFTER you win something...not before...think your green pinhead can handle THAT?

If you actually read the article that is taken out of context, with the context being that Revis was thrown at the 5th most in the NFL, and that it stipulates that the stats on a corner are very different than the stats on a RB, WR, or QB. They also explain that they pretty much created an unconventional statistical method to arrive at that.

This is a purely hypothetical, and should not be taken seriously.

I mean, so their point is if Brees was a run back his average over the year would be 2,316 yards because thats how many yards he made in screen plays? Using production to relate to another position doesn't work . It really is a ridicules idea.

Greer almost equaled Reeves stats, so we should move him to WR?

I mean common

Im not saying this data is your fault, Im saying this is Disney data as Andy points out.

and putting people down by telling them they are not smart enough to read an article, does not really create a positive football discussion.

no disrespect intended just my view

Hey Joker hope all is ok.

I wasn't intending to bash anyone , you know me. I was trying to express that one season , as with the Saints, don't make a great football team. Jets might have a ways to go to be a consistent threat, while Patriots have proved again, and again they are.

I think the Jets are on the right track, don't understand the RB change up, but I know the Patriots are on a consistent track of high level of play.

Patriots are going to be a real problem, that's history, that's proven as rain, the leaders are still in place.
Jets need another year before we know if Rex and Sanchez has figured out the NFL, and its not going to be proven till week 14, and this goes for the Saints as well.

I am pulling for Sanchez tho , he seems to be a nice kid, hope he can keep his head in the NY media storm. I mean who does good stats there first year?

and to answer, yes I know Brady, deep respect for all hes done, and for helping Brees, but thats 1 in a million.

Not exactly. What they did was take Revis performance admittedly hard to be accurate on since stats are not as easily credited) compared it to the stats they credited to other dbs and measured in standard deviations.
They then used the fact that he was thrown at the 5th most times.
So they took the QBs, RBs and WRs that had the 5th most attempts and increased their production by the standard deviation measurement for their own positions (big flaw here) and calculated the stats they would get for being that many standard deviations above average.

To compare, simplistically, if your son got a 95out of 100 in a class that averaged 70 in science, he would get a 135 out of 100 in a math class that averaged 92. Only simplistically because you need to consider the spread of grades not just the average to get the standard deviation.

In other words, Revis had a very good season, but in trying to statistically analogize it they broke a lot of statistical rules.

Stop being the voice of reason, the thread is THE JETS SUCK:singing:

One thing I challenge is the implication that playing poorly as a rookie is almost a reason to think he will play well afterward, and thats far from true. There are many, many more cases of QBs who start poorly and never become good than those that start poorly then become good.
It exacerbates the discussion when you hear the approach that everything that was good on the Jets last year is naturally going to be good, and everything that was not, will now be. The article referenced points out 2 pass defenses that were actually better statistically than the Jets were last year and then the following season were average.
The Jets have made significant changes in their secondary and their running game.
With most teams I wouldn't care about the unrealistic overoptimism and blind homerism, but we've been hearing the same song and dance from the Jets fans for 15 years. Every off-season they are 'set at every position' every off-season their fans come here with the arrogan attitude that they have surpassed the Patriots and every fall and winter they fail, go away and come back with the same story in a different suit in the spring.
It just gets really old sometimes.
Its like the guy you know who is never right about anything but every time he has something to say, he acts as if anyone who doesn't agree with him must be an idiot, then when he is worng he goes away for a while and returns with the same attitude.
That is why THE JETS SUCK.

I don't think he is one to come back if they get their butts handed to them in an epic flop...if he does come back he will be crying foul and making up excuses for everything under the sun until he finds one that is semi-plausible and then moves on to lauding the anointed one's supposed success while ignoring his problems in the aforementioned flop game.

We might have opposition on this point Andy. Many great QB's failed the 1st season.
The 100 Greatest Quarterbacks of the Modern Era, Version 1.0 - ArmchairGM - Sports Wiki Database

and you can look up allot more.

In my opinion you have to have a great QB,coach, OL, supporting team to,etc.. to become a great team. Which the Patriots have now. I cant even imagine how many great QB's got drafted by the browns, or us, and never had a chance with such a weak OL, ending their career.

But, Correct me if I am wrong but
Adam Matthew Vinatieri

was a very important part of the Patriots success, and the the current standing of the team in the NFL.

Guys like these can help a struggling QB. Brady might not have won with out him, and be seen differently today.

Case in point, I have never seen a worse game played by Brees than Saints vs Vikings, I was stunned he never overthrows, but they managed to keep up with 197 total offense, because of the defense, but Hartley probably won it.

Not sure what you are trying to commnicate with that article.
I didnt say there arent good QBs who had bad first years, I am saying out of all the QBs that had bad first years, there are tons more who never became good Qbs that did become good QBs. I dont know how an article about the best 100 QBs ever would address that??????

As far as Vinatieri, you are kidding right?
He had one spectacular kick, and the rest were routine. You want to tell me that you are going to tear down Bradys success because a guy kicked a couple of FGs that have 90% conversion rates? Come on.
How about if you want to belittle a QBs success you look at OLineman, WRs or RBs that helped them by actually making football plays, not saying that you are lucy when your kicker makes the routine FG you put him in position to make.
Are you saying Brees doesn't deserve credit for winning last year because he doesnt if Peyton isnt a choker?
