Wrong! I love when anyone quotes PFT...they may be the least credible source out there, even less credible then completely biased Patsie fans.
The Jest will have the ability to buy back the last two years. Any contracts in existince will be grandfathered. Why would the buy back be dq'd, but not the inability to franchise him? Not gonna happen. It's all moot anyway, as the Jets will end up either extending Revis or creating a new contract.
Sorry to squah your dreams....just keep believing in ways that the Jets aren't going to continually beat the Pats asses over the next 5-7 years....dream away.
Well, you don't know this anymore than Mike Florio from PFT is sure about his allegations that if Revis voids his final two years that the Jets can't exercise their option to buy back the final two years.
To me it is a gray area that may require an arbitrator to look into. The question will be if the buy back would be considered part of the original contract or a new contract that is allowed to the Jets under the original contract. Technically, if Revis opts to void his original contract, the buy back would be a new contract. I don't know if under the CBA it is that way.
As for the inability to franchise him, that is different issue.
One thing Florio didn't bring up though is in a legal contract there needs to be compensation for anything given. The compensation that the Jets got for allowing Revis to void his final years of his contract was the right to buy back those years at a heavy guarantee. If that right to buy back those years is voided because of the 30% rule, the Jets could file a claim that Revis cannot void his final years because the Jets do not receive compensation.
Now I don't know how the contract is structured and this may not be an issue at all since it could be structured that Revis gets compensation of voiding his final years for providing the Jets a certain amount of on field value. Then the buy back would not be tied to his voidable years as compensation.
There are going to be a lot of issues that occure because of the end of the current CBA. Some of them could screw over a lot of teams. The Revis issue could be one of them. It could end up screwing him too.
As for the Jets continually beating the Pats, Jets fans have been promising this for a decade and I am still waiting for it to happen. When was the last time the Jets sweeped the Pats in a season? 2000?
