We could talk about the Jets calling Revis the best in the game, offering to redo his contract with multiple years still left on it, and then trying to low-ball him with the first offer.

Speaking of Revis, according to NFL Network, the Jets are offering 100 million with 40 guaranteed at about 15 million a year.

My guess is 7 years/105 million.

Yeah.... it's all Monopoly money to me at this point.

how insulting. I'd never work for so little

Shouldnt a player have more than one great year before they get that kind of money?

We hear people (I mean in general, and I'm not referring to you) all the time talking about not giving out contracts based upon past performance, but based upon present/future performance. Well, Revis' present performance has him as a top 2 cornerback. It's the edge of the sword that people ignore. I have no problem demanding to see "more" as long as the same teams remember the "more" when it comes time for the player to get paid. However, they almost never do that.

No way is that good enough. A-Roid got 10 years at 275 million. Surely Darrelle Revis is worth that much to the Jets?

Speaking of Revis.....

Check out PFT's take on that contract situation moving forward, and the ability of Revis to void his last 2 seasons:

A league source tells us that persons familiar with the Revis contract believe that the Jets ultimately won't be able to buy back the final two years of the deal, once Revis opts to void the remainder of the contract after the coming season.

Revis could have an ace in the hole against the Jets | ProFootballTalk.com

So..... the Jets may suck at writing up contracts, among everything else.

Wrong! I love when anyone quotes PFT...they may be the least credible source out there, even less credible then completely biased Patsie fans.

The Jest will have the ability to buy back the last two years. Any contracts in existince will be grandfathered. Why would the buy back be dq'd, but not the inability to franchise him? Not gonna happen. It's all moot anyway, as the Jets will end up either extending Revis or creating a new contract.

Sorry to squah your dreams....just keep believing in ways that the Jets aren't going to continually beat the Pats asses over the next 5-7 years....dream away.

I don't know if PFT's point will hold up, but how do you "grandfather" around the 30% clause when it's in the current CBA?

As for dreaming, you must be kidding. In what was the team's worst year since 2002, the Patriots still managed to win 10 games. That would be more games than the Jets won, even with the Colts and Bengals taking games off against them at the end of the season..

Jets suck.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Jets defense takes a step backwards, along with the Packers. I think the fact that both teams were enigmatic in terms of going through huge transition states(New coach, and a switch to the 3-4) Because both teams rely heavily on Blitz schemes and once teams have a chance to analyze the tape, they will neutralize a portion of it. Both teams defense got shredded by the good QB's of the league once there was enough film on how they were operating.

Continually beat them for the next 5-7 years like they have since... er... didn't we win the last game against you? Continually beat, shouldn't that be in context with you having some sort of win streak or dominant statistic to go off of? Like Tom Brady as a starter is 13-3 career vs the Jets would be a good stat to mention if you were arguing the opposite...

Valid point....more wishful thinking and hubris than anything else...I was just being reactive. I need to remind myself that this is a Pats board. You all are entitled to your opinions. And, as you said, until the Jets prove otherwise, they have nothing to pund their chests about. I do believe that the power should shift over the next few years, but there is no arguing that the Pats have owned the Jets over the past decade.

The problem I forsee with the Jets becoming dominant is that all their added glitz and glamour doesn't have the legs to last very long. They potentially could have an outstanding team next year if everything clicks, Sanchez steps up and their defense stays the same, but how many players can they afford to keep around and how many have many years left in their careers?
Also, like you said, this is a Pats board and a Jets suck thread, so no matter what happens in reality, here in this moment we can predict with 100% certainty that the Pats will own the Jets next year!!

Well, you don't know this anymore than Mike Florio from PFT is sure about his allegations that if Revis voids his final two years that the Jets can't exercise their option to buy back the final two years.

To me it is a gray area that may require an arbitrator to look into. The question will be if the buy back would be considered part of the original contract or a new contract that is allowed to the Jets under the original contract. Technically, if Revis opts to void his original contract, the buy back would be a new contract. I don't know if under the CBA it is that way.

As for the inability to franchise him, that is different issue.

One thing Florio didn't bring up though is in a legal contract there needs to be compensation for anything given. The compensation that the Jets got for allowing Revis to void his final years of his contract was the right to buy back those years at a heavy guarantee. If that right to buy back those years is voided because of the 30% rule, the Jets could file a claim that Revis cannot void his final years because the Jets do not receive compensation.

Now I don't know how the contract is structured and this may not be an issue at all since it could be structured that Revis gets compensation of voiding his final years for providing the Jets a certain amount of on field value. Then the buy back would not be tied to his voidable years as compensation.

There are going to be a lot of issues that occure because of the end of the current CBA. Some of them could screw over a lot of teams. The Revis issue could be one of them. It could end up screwing him too.

As for the Jets continually beating the Pats, Jets fans have been promising this for a decade and I am still waiting for it to happen. When was the last time the Jets sweeped the Pats in a season? 2000?
