Patriots Player Departure The dream is dead: Patriots releasing Rourke

Brissett, Maye and then Milton vs Zappe to see who is #3 and who is on the PS.
From what Drake says .. Milton has the biggest arm... and Drake has a rocket launcher... himself.. could we sneakily end up with one of best QB situations in the league?...

What BB did to Mac was enough to get him fired. And rightfully so.

Highly unlikely Zappe gets any look from any team. He drew zero interest last summer when 31 other teams could have had him for free. And he certainly didn't improve his stock in 2023. He is who he is... a UDFA level talent who should have never been drafted as high as he was. But that's par for the course for the former regime and thankfully that's no longer a problem.
Burrow hasn’t been ruined by having one of the worst OLines in the NFL, he’s suffered two real injuries… he still isn’t a mental midget like Mac is.

Herbert has played on predominantly bad teams, he’s not ruined either… Mac sucked, nobody ruined him.

Mac’s team ruined him, okay… Zappe inherited a more injury riddled dysfunctional team midseason after Mac was benched for the 4th time. He has 8 starts under his belt, he needs a fresh start.

You're killing me.

Here are Moon's CFL Stats:

Here are Flutie's stats:

Both guys threw fewer than 10 interceptions just twice. And Rourke threw for over 3,000 yards and that was despite the fact he missed a month.

Again, I get it, you're not a fan, and that's fine. But saying "he wasn't good in Canada" and "threw too many interceptions" in Canada - especially the second part - just isn't the case. Especially when he threw fewer in his first full season than any of the two QBs you mentioned.

He hasn't had a real shot in the NFL yet. Time will tell if that changes, but I would have to say he landed in the right place given the Giants' current QB situation.
Except the game has changed dramatically from the 80’s until now. You can’t compare eras without taking that into account. You used to be able to slaughter the QB and WR’s coming across the middle. Apples/oranges.

Rourke wasn't even the CFL MVP, he was merely decent in Canada after being not very good in a small conference in college. Moon and Flutie dominated Canada… they weren’t just decent enough to earn a tryout by a QB desperate team.

Now I feel like you're just messing with me. The guy literally won the "Most Outstanding Canadian" award.

Link (the one you posted was "Player" - that award is "Most Outstanding Canadian")

"The Most Outstanding Canadian Award is annually awarded to the best Canadian player in the Canadian Football League." - which is their equivalent to the NFL's MVP award.

Rourke was an MVP candidate in Canada, and led the league in a bunch of stats including QB rating. I'd rank that quite a bit higher than "decent".

He's a legit prospect. His CFL numbers are quite similar to Jeff Garcia (including ints) and Garcia made it in the NFL.
Wrong.

He didn’t win the award, check the Wiki page to the award posted above.

Correction: From what I can see from Dunk's article, Most Outstanding Player and Most Outstanding Canadian do appear to be two different honors. He has Zach Collaros listed in the same link above for that award at the bottom.

LOL, zero idea why we're arguing about this. Good player, not the right fit here. No idea why we have to essentially say, "whatever, he's - not very good, mediocre, overrated, whatever adjective you prefer to use - anyway..." yet here we are.

I think it's probably a little tougher when you call out your head coach's long-time assistants and put yourself in a non-recoverable doghouse. I think it was probably hard for Mac to come in each day and be productive with the top guy being cold while knowing the next pick could get you benched.

Just a bad situation that spiraled, and there was no shot at him coming out of it. Couple that in with the fans turning on him and everybody hating him, and the end result - with hindsight now being what it is - isn't shocking.

Herbert has never endured that. He's had support throughout from the head coach but he also has a lot more both physical talent and he's had some pretty good players around him. I feel like he's probably going to do well under Harbaugh and I'm curious to see what that looks like. Albeit, just not whenever New England faces them.

Jones was never going to be Burrow. Burrow went first overall and rightfully so. Jones went #15. No idea why that's even a talking point.

Whether Jones ever had "it" or not he never had a chance with the insanity brought on by his HC like Matt Patricia, offensive coordinator. Reminder that without the greatest QB who ever lived, that HC is under .500 and very likely to stay. Not hard to see why after watching the last few years.

Speaking of Herbert, Zappe was shut out by probably the worst defense in in the league last year. Nuff said. Not an NFL level QB. Won't be in the league in a few months. Should have never been drafted where he was. Another genius decision by the genius HC/GM.

Yeah I guess their MVP is called Most Outstanding Player. They have a special award for Canadian players which Rourke won.

As I understand it their end of season awards works like this: Players, media, coaches and fans in each team city vote to nominate a player for each award from their respective team. The "winners" then move on to a second round of voting on the pool of each city "winners" within their division (there's only 2 divisions in the CFL East and West). The 2 award winners in each division go head to head in the final round of voting across Canada so each award is always East vs West.

Would never happen here but I like this structure. Each of the 32 nominate a player. Then voting in division. Then voting for the conference. Then AFC vs NFC for the final winner. I also like the fact fans have a say at the start.

Rourke won the Canadian award and was nominated as his team's Most Outstanding Player (MVP) nominee but lost in the 2nd round of voting to the eventual winner Collaros.
