What are you talking about? I never claimed you can protect a practice squad player. I said the opposite in regards to Milton. Please quote the Practice Squad rule where we can protect a player from signing on to another team's 53 man squad. I could see a team claiming Zappe if they needed a #2 or #3, especially if they experienced an injury.
Sure, but only one of those 3 has started an NFL game.in a new system in which Brissett has some experience, aren't Maye, Milton and Zappe all "rookies" in that system?
I’m no Zappe apologist but I’ve seen much worse backups than him. There’s a good shot a team with a need grabs him sometime during the season, especially if he shows he can absorb the AVP system.I would think any team that watches film on Zappe last year has no interest in him, so he 99% will get to the Pats PS if they release him.
Oh, that's a great landing spot for him.Giants claimed Rourke on waivers. Good for him, he may actually have a legit shot at that job. Daniel Jones is only so-so at best.
That would suck if Rourke becomes a player and Maye and Milton bust, but Rourke deserves a chance, and doesn’t look like he would get it with the Pats.Oh, that's a great landing spot for him.
I don't understand why the Pats grabbed him off waivers and then never gave him a chance. His CFL resume was impressive. I always think of Warren Moon in that context. (Not saying Rourke was the next Moon.)That would suck if Rourke becomes a player and Maye and Milton bust, but Rourke deserves a chance, and doesn’t look like he would get it with the Pats.

Bill grabbed him off waivers, but Wolf wanted to go with a fresh start with a rookie at 3. I have to guess if BB was still here, he would’ve traded down and prioritized other positions, probably gave Zappe, Rourke and a veteran a shot to compete for the job.I don't understand why the Pats grabbed him off waivers and then never gave him a chance. His CFL resume was impressive. I always think of Warren Moon in that context. (Not saying Rourke was the next Moon.)
The chances of Rourke suddenly panning out for the Giants while Maye and Milton both bust is not high. It’s more likely that one of Maye/Milton pan out, or one of those guys AND Rourke pan out, or none of them do.That would suck if Rourke becomes a player and Maye and Milton bust, but Rourke deserves a chance, and doesn’t look like he would get it with the Pats.
I believe the Patriots comparison would be Doug Flutie. The guy was dynamite in the CFL but never got the chance to flourish in New England. Instead they went with a guy named Tony Eason who didn't work out either.I don't understand why the Pats grabbed him off waivers and then never gave him a chance. His CFL resume was impressive. I always think of Warren Moon in that context. (Not saying Rourke was the next Moon.)
Although it's by no means a certainty, if Milton shows that he can be coached up and given his raw abilities, I doubt that if he's put on the PS that some other team won't claim him for developmental purposes alone.
Practice squad players are free to sign with other NFL teams, but they have to be signed to the 53-man active roster of the acquiring team. A practice squad player cannot be signed to another practice squad unless he is first released or waived.
