The case for trading up in the first round of the draft

We have the Ammo if he's available from 15 on I would pull the trigger on Hockenson. That said I still think Noah Fant can pack some more pounds on his frame and be Coached up Blocking is what sets Hockenson apart from him.

Couldn't agree more with this statement if i could.

Fant's blocking issues are not even issues really. He just needs to do it more often and refine his technique more. Whereas Hockenson like you said has done it more often and has a better technique. I'd take either them, the dream would be both of them.
i saw a post on twitter that you don't play for Iowa if you can't block as a TE.

"terrifying" Chris? really? do you live in a bubble or what? the draft and picks that aren't to your liking are NOT terrifying...you're just going way beyond the galactic rim with this hysteria...

He badly misjudged Julio Jones.
He said Parker who was a huge bust was the same player.
That's terrifying when you think about it.
Explains how we wind up with Brandon Tate Bethel Johnson Chad Jackson

At least try to get the facts right dude. He said BALDWIN was a similar player, another guy who went in the 1st and was a monster in college. He didn't say anything about Parker. Injuries derailed his career. Jones, for as great as he is, hasn't led to winning; the closest they got was the 28-3 game. He's a great player, but who knows how much stronger the team might be if they'd hit on several contributors with the picks they used to trade up.

Lumping in Tate (a 3rd round return specialist who played a long time in the league) with Jackson is kind of strange. Sure, Jackson was a 2nd round miss, but it's tough to say Tate was a real swing and a miss. He was inconsistent here as a receiver but still did pretty well as a returner.

And you're the guy who likes DK Metcalf, who is the definition of a boom or bust prospect. Let's just say I'm happy you're not in charge. ;):)

The only way I see Belichick trading up is if there is a DT that he feels is like Vince Wilfork. A can't pass up player who has slid for some inexplicable reason. Otherwise, I could see Belichick sitting on the pick or even trading back early into the 2nd round.

It's not going to happen, but I'd love seeing all of those first six picks used for an injection of young talent into this team.

The lease you could do is be factual.

Belichick said nothing about Parker. As others pointed out, is was Jon Baldwin that Belichick said was a similar type of player (not same).

Your attempt to compare the drafting of Brandon Tate (3rd round player with injury history), Bethel Johnson (2nd round player), and Chad Jackson (2nd round player that McDaniels wanted but that Daboll didn't) shows an extreme lack of understanding of this team..

The team is already expecting an injection of young talent with the return of Wynn, Izzo, Bentley, Sam, and Berrios. I wouldn't be surprised if BB attempts to trade as many as 4 picks into 2020..

It was Jon Baldwin not Parker he was talking about. Baldwin was 6.5" and ran a 4.4. Yeah I don't trust BB drafting a WR.

I desperately wanted Keenan Allen but he takes Aaron Dropson instead. That's why I wouldn't hate them trading for OBJ and drafting positions they are good at like Oline and Defense

I would trade down to either acquire another 3rd round pick or a 1st round pick in 2020.

32 for 49 and 80 to Cleveland for example would be something I would like.

Dobson biggest problem was his injuries at times. Look at his first year he was a solid guy in 13.

The only player worth trading up for in this draft is that LB Devin White, if he somehow falls into the teens. Other than that there isn’t another player that I think would have the impact.
My sweet summer child ...

Trade down would be my choice. This draft is loaded with DT/WR and TE. Get and extra 2nd in 2020 and a 2nd and a 4th and i will be very happy

I think BB's reputation for always trading down is entirely overblown. He likes to do it, sure, but there are a lot of examples of him trading up if he really likes a player. It's just usually a trade up of around 5 spots or so, not a draft altering jump from 32 to top 10. I think he doesn't view the draft as typically sure-fire enough to waste a lot of capital on moves like that (and I'm inclined to agree). Sure, he was wrong about Jones vs. Baldwin, but we don't know how many of those choices he's made (or declined) that worked out. We only hear about that one because it turned out so wrong. It stands out because it's an exception.

Fant is not a blocker........I'd rather take Alize Mack in round 3

Sternberger and Mack would be best value for 2 guys not named Hockenson

The only really big needs are WR, TE, pass rusher.

There are a lot of decent mid tier wide receivers in this draft that will last to round 2. There's only 1 clear cut #1 TE in Hockensen. All the top tier pass rushers are GONE by 32.

So the only way I see them moving up is if Hockensen drops to the 20's then they give up a 3rd rounder to move up and snatch him.

I also really like WR Deebo Samuel in round 2 for the Pats. Great route runner with agility, hands, and some explosion. A mild trade up in round 2 sounds reasonable to land him. Fits our system very nicely. Could be a taller Deion Branch with better hands in the end zone.

I doubt that the Pats will trade up. My money is on trading into 2020...not all, but some picks for sure.

However, if hell freezes over and the Pats trade up BIG TIME in the first round...I am going to be SOOOO EXCITED because it will mean that BB and the brain trust are 100% sold on said player.

He badly misjudged Julio Jones.

He was against the Jones trade. And for all that Jones is a spectacular player, the blockbuster price (2 firsts, a second and 2 fourths for a WR) was a blow to the Falcons' talent pool and contributed to their missing the playoffs for three straight years.

Sure I agree but he said Baldwin was the same player.

Have you watched Baldwin? Do you know how dominating he was in college, or how he tested, or where he went in the draft, or why he busted? I'm genuinely curious.

This idea that Fant isn't a blocker is ridiculous. If you play for that Iowa team as a TE you have to be able to block and he can. He's not going to pancake guys like Hockenson. The other thing is, there's not many guys in any draft year that can block like Hockenson. Hockenson is Gronk 2.0, he's the closet thing to it.
