Tennessee Tuxedo! Man, there's a good way to figure out the old-timers here.

Not that old!

I called Greg Bedard "Chumley" and that got my mind going...

Hmmm. . . . may not grade out as handsome enough.

March 2017
If I see Jimmy as franchise QB Im not listening to offers.
I rather risk losing a pick or two than losing a franchise QB. In a heartbeat.

November 2017
If Brady is healthy and shows no decline, and if I see Brissett as clear potential, I start listening to offers.
_

Two things Id consider as well is Jimmy's attitude in waiting another year(s) .. and the affect the crowded position has on Brissett's development.

Draft capital would be the last thing on my mind .. if I see Jimmy that way.
_

EDIT:
March 2018
If I am soon to be 66 and get my 6th ring .. I take Brady with me to retirement and leave it to the kids..

I would rather keep Jimmy G this off season. Unless we get an offer we can't refuse. My minimum offer goes the Browns #12 pick swapped with our #32 pick and the Browns 33rd pick. Thats the floor.

Why does the argument that we don't know what JG is have such legs? Garoppolo has played in infinitely more NFL games than any draft prospect. If you already knew for certain he's a top 8 starter in the NFL, then you already know the price is far more than a top 10 pick plus more. Thus, the starting point is a high 1 with more.

Either trade him now (I'd do it for a 2nd and 4Th, but I'd like to get more)

Or watch him leave for nothing after next season

Or, trade Tommy... don't think y'all wanna do that though

First off, I don't watch college football at all aside from Maine (lol) but, those USC QBs worry me...they very rarely work out historically for one reason or another.

Different coaches, different offense. The scenario I threw out is unlikely because I highly doubt the team who gets the first pick is going to trade it away unless they don't need a quarterback. Darnold right now is undoubtedly going number 1 in 2018 as of right now

Said it earlier, but it is my opinion this team can compete for a title with Jimmy as a QB. I do not think that is true with Brissett. We should get a 3rd comp at worst if we keep him. So I am going to need something way beyond that to let him go. Bradford seems to be a good comp in my mind.

I think they are comfortable with Jacoby as the backup and I think the Patriots are better with Jacoby as the backup and the picks from the trade vs having Jimmy just one more year. I would even take the Browns second and third this year for him (if that is the highest offer)

Brady is special among special...you always bet on him. So, you keep Garo for 2 seasons and lose him for a compensatory pick if you are afraid of a Brady injury, otherwise you trade him. I think they trade him this year.

Trade both Brady and Jimmy and give Brissett his job back.

Goddam traitors, Drew is our franchise QB FOREVAH!

Pick up the phone and do the right thing!

Ideally, I'd keep him but the timing doesn't seem like it will work with Brady's end not being in sight for at least 2 or more years. I even believe him when he says 4-5 more years.

So that means trade for Garoppolo.

Garoppolo + 4th round pick to Bears in exchange for 3rd overall pick + 4th round pick.

Patriots select Jonathan Allen if he slides to #3. If 49ers take him, trade back into the middle-later parts of round 1.

Prepare as if you're keeping Jimmy.

Call no one.

See if someone gives you an offer you can't refuse.

I would add to the OPs original post that if you're advocating keeping JG beyond 2017, explain how specifically you're going to do that.

To me it largely depends on the confidence the team has in Jacoby Brissett. If they legitimately think he can be the next guy down the road and has progressed significantly by next season then trade JG.

If not hang on to Garropolo next season. He is too reliable of a backup in case something happened to Tom.
