First, let me say that on paper the Steelers are not in the same class with NE or Indy so far this season. Bottom line. However, I'm also certain that December 9th isn't going to be a walk in the park for Brady and the gang.
The Steelers loss this past week was really just a meltdown in almost all aspects of the Pitt game. The Steelers were unable to get adequate pressure on Cutler, and allowed him to dink and dunk them to death. I've been saying for YEARS, by the way, that the Pittsburgh secondary gives receivers way too much cushion off the line. The way to beat the Steelers for several seasons has been short/quick passes. It's actually really frustrating to watch as a fan. They won't give up many big plays, and as always they're still a tremedous threat to force turnovers. Also, I think the gameplan for the game was terrible to begin with. Why come out slinging against a team with the worst run defense in the league?! Especially when running the ball has always been the bread and butter of Steeler football! Don't get me wrong, I still think Ben is a great YOUNG QB with a lot of potential, but I agree that he needs to control his gunslinger mentality. How many time in that game was it 3rd and 6-8 yards, and Ben tried for the BIG play and throws it downfield 50 yards?! Just get the first down! The O-line was horrific, with Ben running for his life almost every snap. Just an ugly game by the Steelers in general.
I still love my Steelers, and I still think they have the potential to be in the top 4 or 5 teams down the stretch and make a run for the championship, but obviously, as a football fan I realize when there's work to be done. I still think they can clean up their act and will give NE a run for their money on the 9th. Willie is a beast, especially consider his size and lack of superior blocking from his O-line this year. The receiving corps, although similar to Pats receivers in the past, lacking big-names (except maybe Ward) are still dangerous. Holmes in indeed the deep threat the Steelers needed, and Cedric Wilson has much better hands then he's given credit for. Heath Miller (in my opinion, Pittsburgh's best draft pick in many years) is having a stellar year and is always a threat. The defense, although lacking consistancy are still 3rd in the NFL in Passing Yards Allowed and 2nd in Rushing Yards Allowed. Should be an interesting meeting in December!
