Tebow working on zone-read plays in practice (EDIT: and "catching passes" too)

I would love to see the report that is claiming Ryan Mallett has been playing "unsure and jittery".

We'll be waiting. Probably forever. If you do provide the report, make sure you have your link just in case someone wants to not cite a source.

Darryl - very good job this morning in your responses.

Hmmm, "unsure and jittery". Would that be extremely similar to "nervous" in the pocket ?

You cited Joker's reports previously, so.....

I saw him yesterday...I saw a whole lot of him last preseason...he still looks nervous in the live 11 on 11 reps...if I can see that then NFL scouts damn sure can too...I'd place Mallett's value right now as a 5th round pick in trade...if Bill can get better I'd personally be all in. All this is very very premature however.Let's at least wait until the preseason games are played before we go off the deep end in all directions.

Anyone going to answer my question whose member name is not Demosthenes?

BTW - Demos, you were warned by Ian. I would strongly advise that you follow his request.

ask Joker for one. he was there and SAW IT and wrote about it (and how about the source i posted already ? I did cite the source)

and I thought I was on your ignore list???? geez stop letting me down like this.

here this is only a few post back and i cited the source

And this from Pat's pulpit ( SB Nation)

After a sloppy performance on Monday night, Tom Brady and Tim Tebow had terrific performances on Tuesday. Besides a few overthrows on goal line drills, Tom Brady was on target all afternoon long. Brady and Danny Amendola seem to be building chemistry every day and I look forward to seeing them in live game action. One of the top plays of the day was a stunning one-handed catch by tight end Zach Sudfeld. Even though it was a difficult grab, Brady put it perfectly over the head of Adrian Wilson, who had pretty good coverage on the play. In my opinion Tim Tebow made the pass of the day when he threw an absolutely perfect deep ball to Lavelle Hawkins during one-on-one drills. Cornerback Logan Ryan couldn't have played the ball better but Tebow put the pass right into his breadbasket. Tebow has improved everyday and I think he could potentially pass Ryan Mallett on the depth chart.

Mallett wasn't able to bounce back from his bad night on Monday. He made a few good passes during 7 on 7s, including one where he nailed Matthew Slater down the left sideline but it was dropped. Mallett lacks consistency and seems to struggle whenever there is any amount of pressure. I can't help but think that Mallett needs to take some heat off the ball when it comes to intermediate routes. On a short five-yard pass to Kamar Aiken he fired it in, forcing a difficult catch. Aiken dropped the ball and there is no excuse for that, but in my opinion Mallett needs to improve on his touch in order to make things easier for the receiver.

At what position??

So who does he displace, based on the evidence provided in this link??? The other poster believed that he could displace Bequette or Ebner... do you agree??

There are only so many spots, and a whole bunch of talent on that field.. he has to take something away from someone else to make this team. Can they afford this luxury??? Not a lot of folks would agree with that...

He is a nice guy, but there are a lot of nice guys on this team. He is an average NFL Player..none of these are reasons to be on the final 53...

I think it is probably that Tebow makes the roster as QB#3. That said, they may ask him to do other things as well, whether it's punt protector, RB#4/5, situational player, what have you.

If Bill and Josh see something in Tebow and they think he can be developed into something special, then they will keep him on that alone. I seem to recall that one year, Bill actually wasted a roster spot by carrying a QB4.

And I still disagree with your characterization that Tebow (or anyone else) would have to take "someone else's spot". As I said, Bill determines who gets those spots based on what he wants.

For example, he might decide that he wants 6 TEs and whomever is tagged as TE6 might not be as good a player as a DE or CB who gets cut. That's the way it works at the margins. A player who gets cut might actually be better at his position than someone who makes the roster at another position. It comes down to team need and what the coaches want.

Lets backtrack you wanted him to make this team based on his meritorious blocking.. cannot waste a roster spot on that.

Now you want him to make it as a QB, he may still do that.. but do not be surprised if he does not make this team, no matter how much he is liked.

One thing you learn about this team is that any roster spot is based on merit.. not on how well you are liked.

In the past couple of years there has been a large influx of rookies and UDFA's who are showing quite a bit in practice.. the odds of him making it are about 30%.... a lot of things have to fall in place for that to happen.

I never once mentioned blocking so thank you for that particular straw man, nor did I say he wouldn't make it on merit or that he was a certainty to make the roster. I merely explored POSSIBLE ways he might make the roster. I'm struggling to see why this is such a controversial issue.

Im sure Mallet is being jittery.. but then when I watch Brady in the pocket Im usually thinking how awesome his pocket presence is... (with very rare exceptions) and yet there are all these people telling me he is seeing ghosts and looking scared. :eyeroll:

EDIT: I 100% believe Jokers assessment.

You are on my ignore list. As far as I am concerned, reports from training camp need to be corroborated and if you read joker's comments carefully, "looking nervous" is certainly more interpretive than playing "nervous".

Joker also said this - "He HAS made strides since last year with his overall QB play...you can see that on the tape. I don't know...I just feel apprehensive about him right now...I get the feeling he's jumpy."

But hey you guys keep on doing what you are doing. Have a nice day Tebow.

Maybe you guys should just go to a New England Patriots practice and observe for yourself.

how about the article I cited and If I am on your ignore list why are you talking to me?

I am sure glad that you guys are fans of the New England Patriots and the other 89 players on this roster.

Christ you're a little ******* tattle tale. Shouldn't you be busy asking Ian to ban people you don't like?

Actually fnordcircle - this is Ian's website as you know and if you want to get personal with me, lets go into PM and we can hash it out.

to be honest,my impression from Monday could be skewed by the contrast with how Brady looks in the same sets...it really is stark. Perhaps Mallett's in game presence IS the way he looked Monday.Way to small of a sample and really, just an impression, which could be extremely flawed on my part. I don't know, but I will and so will everyone else when we see live preseason game reps. I can reasonably guess this however, Tebow will be easier to judge and having started through the playoffs, we'll be able to get a grasp of his handle on the offense so far.

Hey Joker - on the plays that you were observing for Mallett, did it appear that the Pats were opening the playbook a bit for him which may have caused him to look indecisive in his progressions?

BTW - I couldn't agree more with your view that Brady is going to see extra looks in the pre-season games so that he can continue to develop rapport with all of his receiving targets prior to the start of the regular season. Spot on.

your review was as good as any analyst I read. No matter our differences and how you like to "joke" around You obviously know football at a high level.

This is my first foray into this thread and — much as I hate to break up the group hug — thought this was a surprising observation from Reiss:

3. Tim Tebow, the deep ball & contested catches. While he isn't a conventional drop-back pocket passer, Tim Tebow has equal to the task of Tom Brady and Ryan Mallett when it comes to the deep ball and giving the receiver a chance to make a contested catch. Tebow delivered a few gems in that area on Tuesday, throwing to the back shoulder as the receiver went up to make the catch.

Thoughts from anyone who has been to practices? (Edit: Thoughts from others welcome too. This being a forum and all.)

Actually belicheck010405, I've talked with Ian about it. Without divulging too much of a private conversation, the basic gist was "cool it, be civil", which is what I'm doing.

This falls on both of you - if there are people you don't get along with, I suggest adding them to your ignore list and moving on. I've seen a lot of reports the last day and a half over this - more than all of July. I'm a nice guy and I'm pretty easy going, and I didn't take sides when I got in touch with each of you privately. Since it has now made this public, I'm now asking you - belicheck010405 - to cool it with with Demosthenes as well as the other veteran members here.

I've already removed several new users because of their inability to be civil with the existing community. So I need you to start making an effort to stay away from people who don't share your opinions if you can't respond appropriately. Sorry to discuss this out in the open, but if I give you a chance to work it out behind the scenes and you can't handle it, unfortunately I guess it has to be done here. :beatingcoming:

Ian - I have no problem with what you have said here and the only thing that I ask is that this is also relayed to some of the same veteran posters on your website because the pot shots and insults have been flying around for quite some time as well.

I have communicated it to yourself and a couple of moderators over the last couple of months as well.

Either way - all of the Tebow supporters that have been this website since last month were placed on ignore yesterday and I have refrained from speaking with any of them but one poster about a comment that was made about Mallett.

I will continue to follow your comments that were made yesterday and today as well as what PatsNutsMe said yesterday as well regarding reporting rude posts, such as the one that was made by Kontradiction a few minutes ago.

Hope that you are having a good day....
