TE Kyle Rudolph trade idea

So, at the moment, most of the TEs look more like receiving threats than blockers, with the possibility that ASJ could be the best option as a blocker.

Watson, LaCosse, and Anderson all look like move TEs. Does this sound correct?

No, Watson's a solid in-line blocking tight end and has been for much of his career. While he's still capable as a receiver, blocking is where he's made his money for the last few years. He's certainly a much more capable blocker than Rudolph. Sefarian-Jenkins is also a good blocker, and Izzo was drafted as a blocking tight end. Anderson and Lacosse aren't very good blockers, but I actually think the three tight ends most likely to end up on the roster are pretty good blockers.

Hes holding his ground. Thats fine. I don't blame him. The problem is his leverage sucks.

Certainly there are teams out there that will pay him but not sure how many will pay him $7.6m in 2019

I think the Patriots will get the most of Sefarian-Jenkins he has not truly hit his strides yet and was held back by inconsistent QB play. I hope hope he can stay healthy Brady will like him and Watson is a nice #2 TE.

How can an "ok" blocker be an upgrade for an elite blocking TE ?

I don't know why we are still talking about Rudolph. He ain't coming....for a lot of reasons.

1. They need him. Irv Smith ISN'T a true inline TE. He' an HB/move TE. The Vikes added him to their TE arsenal, they DIDN'T replace Rudolph with him. That aren't similar players

2. He AND his family want to stay there. Never underestimate that factor. It's a major reason why Josh McDaniel is still here. Sure the Vikes are up against the cap, but extensions and compromises can be made such that he gets him money for this year. My guess is that they will eventually work something out.

3. And if they don't, so what! I'm not good at math, but 3.5 - 7.5 will never equal a positive number. The fact is that we don't have the cap space to take him on.

Sorry folks. I bought into the idea too when it was first proposed, but the reality is that once we brought Watson on, any possible Rudloph deal was dead on arrival. I think we are going to go with what we have going into camp. Now that might change as we get closer to the opener due to injuries or cuts, but for the next few months at least, our TE group is what our TE group is.

Now the question is can our TE group produce enough to facilitate a top 5 offense. What would those numbers have to be. Just for the sake of argument, would everyone be satisfied with the following numbers from our combined TE group.

800 passing yds and 6 TD's That's about 100 yds more than what we got last season and twice the TD's. But still I think they are reasonable numbers. What say you?

Maybe slightly lower but I expect a similar production as last year with less emphasis on the TE game.
