Player Signing TE Hunter Henry signs 2 year extension

I think Henry is a better TE than he gets credit for around these parts, so I'm happy to see him staying. Also, he's a great locker room guy and one of the Mayes' best friends. Just an all-around asset to the team.
Well, around here we compare TE's to Ben Coates, Ben Watson, Gronk - so Henry has never been a physical dominator. But, he is a great character guy, team captain, and does still provide a decent pass-catching option, even though he is slow and doesn't like contact. I hope Eli becomes the every down starter next year, allowing Henry to stay fresh and be a matchup winner guy.

Love Henry & how he’s carried himself during his tenure, but hopefully he gracefully ages/settles into TE2 by the end of the year/next year.

Because he still got another $7M+ guaranteed beyond that.
So? That would do absolutely nothing for him because 2026 was already virtually guaranteed and now with the extension there hs no chance it isn’t.

so what
he now has practically doubled his guaranteed money, with the potential to earn more, and is staying where he wants to be, and end his career
Guaranteeing 2026 does nothing for him. This adds 2 years to his contract. If all they were guaranteeing was another 7 mill he wouldn’t agree to it, that is far below his market.

you have no idea of knowing if it does or not
it is very plausible that it does
nowehere is it mentioned "new money"
we have to wait on the specific details, but more than likely, you are wrong on this
It’s not plausible at all. Guaranteeing 2026 is pointless. Adding 2 years with only 7 million combined of sb and guaranteed salary is nowhere near his market.
It’s possible it could be $1 mill in 2027 and 15 mill in 2028 but it’s too stupid to be reasonable, just like your idea.

Maye & 52 Jags.

He's been doing the Pats a solid with his bargain deals.

This was a signing in 2021 that Bill nailed.

I wish it didn’t pair with that other TE signing. But what are you gonna do.

Interesting. Keeping him to mentor Raridon

Henry was one of the MANY UFAs the Pats have after this season.

Fantastic news, I would have been pleased if it was strait up 2/20 as 10 mil for a starting caliber TE is decent money so 2/16 is a total win for the front office. Love him or hate him HH is at a bare min a starting caliber TE and should be for at a minimum ofthis year and next year when the Pats are pretty clearly going all in during Mayes rookie deal.

only counting the guaranteed money
the rest is publicity and potential earnings

You're right in instances like Diggs where he was likely gone after a year.

But Henry will likely make a total of 16 million if he stays next year. And it's pretty definite he will.

If he gets cut in the offseason the Patriots take a large cap hit vs what it will be to keep him I assume. So really the 16 million will likely be guaranteed, except for disaster.

Still hoping Raridon surpasses him...HH made a lot of $$$ in.this league for an above average guy.

It does something for him insofar as it lets his agent report a higher guaranteed figure in the press release, even though in reality it was money he was effectively guaranteed anyway.

Looked at another way, it would be more like a 1 year extension for $7M guaranteed with some sweeteners on top, and then an option year at the end. The posts mention finishing his career in NE so he may feel he is close to retirement.

In any case, we will know soon enough when the details come out.

Kida surprised because of his age. He is a very good TE, but he is also 31 and will be 32 in early December. My guess is he won't see the second year of his extension, but hopefully he won't hit the age wall next year.

or he renegotiates a TE2 salary, instead of finding himself jobless. Maybe with the addition of a void year as window dressing.
