That is very reasonable money, in fact probably cheaper than what he could get in free agency.

very reasonable assumptionGuessing the contract is something like...
- Guarantees his existing 2026 salary of $7.1M that he was about to get guaranteed anyway
- $3.2M salary in 2027, guaranteed
- $8.6M salary in 2028, not guaranteed
- $4.2M signing bonus
- $2M in workout & roster bonuses in 2027 and 2028 each year to get the additional "up to" +$4M
This would mean the cap charge in 2026 goes up by ~$1.4M, his cap charge in 2027 would be ~$6M or so, and then a 2028 cap charge of ~$11-12M which would only carry a dead money hit of about $1.4M so easy to dump if he's wearing down, but also easy to keep or extend short-term if he's worth keeping. Makes sense to keep his 2027 hit low too, since they have a bit tighter year there already before any Gonzalez or Maye extensions hit the books.
He got 14.5 guaranteed. That means the least he can make is 14.5. If he is here year 2 he also makes his year 2 salary, at least the portion that is not guaranteed.have to wait on the details, but more than likely you are wrong
as usual
I don’t think a 2 year extension with 14.5 mill guarantee means they guaranteed money on the year that was left. That wouldn’t make senseBig news! Keeps Henry around while Raridon develops. Hopefully after a bit of time, Raridon can take over the primary blocking role which lets Henry focus on mostly receiving, which is where he shines and saves some wear and tear. If that happens then he may be able to squeak out another year or two after this.
Either way this is a good deal, and the money is very logical and seems to be a little less than he might make on the open market after this season. I'm curious how the money breaks out since he has "$14M guaranteed" but he was effectively guaranteed $7M in salary this year as soon as week 1 hits, so there's a chance some of that $14M includes money this year that he was going to get anyway and just makes this contract sound bigger than it actually is. We'll have to see though.
Not reasonable at all. His 14.5 mill guaranteed would not include his 2026 salary which is now guaranteed by default. 14.5 of the 2/16 to 2/20 is guaranteedvery reasonable assumption
the only thing left unsaid is his potential incentives
I would assume tied to rcpts, yards, td's, etc. will be interesting if they are accounted for as likely or not likely to be earned.
Yes it can happen. They did not explicitly say that the guarantees are part of the new years. They could be guaranteeing money in the existing year remaining. Often times, extensions come with modifications to the existing years still on the books in the form of pay bumps, guaranteeing salaries etc.I don’t think a 2 year extension with 14.5 mill guarantee means they guaranteed money on the year that was left. That wouldn’t make sense
Agreed. It’s not a terrible deal even if he becomes TE2 playing about 50% of the snaps before it’s over.solid deal, 8 mill for 50 plus receptions is value.
Why would Henry accept that? The 2026 is guaranteed by default.Yes it can happen. They did not explicitly say that the guarantees are part of the new years. They could be guaranteeing money in the existing year remaining.
Because he still got another $7M+ guaranteed beyond that. Why would Henry accept that? The 2026 is guaranteed by default.
you have no idea of knowing if it does or notNot reasonable at all. His 14.5 mill guaranteed would not include his 2026 salary which is now guaranteed by default. 14.5 of the 2/16 to 2/20 is guaranteed
so whatWhy would Henry accept that? The 2026 is guaranteed by default.
you?Y'all remember when BB "surprised" us in FA by signing Henry after he signed Jonnu Smith for big dollars?! LOL Funny how things work out sometimes! This is really good news!
indeedI think Henry is a better TE than he gets credit for around these parts, so I'm happy to see him staying. Also, he's a great locker room guy and one of the Mayes' best friends. Just an all-around asset to the team.
Around these parts everybody besides the QB is average or outright sucks… so there’s that.I think Henry is a better TE than he gets credit for around these parts, so I'm happy to see him staying.
