Vinny Testaverde currently holds the record for TD passes to 70 different receivers with Brady in second place, with 6̶3̶ 64 different receivers. Assuming Brady throws TD passes to Cooks, Gillislee and Burkhead this year (not outside the realm of possibility and pretty darn likely) he could be at 66..... Throw in somebody else, maybe Slater on one of those annual bombs or O'Shaunessy, Lucien or Carr if they make the roster and he'll be even closer.

What makes it more remarkable is that Brady has played his entire career with one team while Testaverde played for ( and I had to look this up) eight teams so his potential number of receivers was a great deal higher....

Tom Brady has thrown TDs to a ridiculous 63 different receivers

It's 64 in the regular season. Read the article you posted bud. ;)

Engel was the 64th during the regular season, so not much more to go.

Bit surprised Develin -still- hasn't caught one.

He has in the playoffs though. So just a matter of time. :)

Brady will have difficulty catching Testaverde in one category

interceptions. Vinnie has 115 more that Brady and Brady has never thrown more than 14 in a season (twice I believe). so Brady would have to paly 9 more seasons to beat Vinnie in that category.

Vinnie 275 TDs, 267 INTs
Brady 456 TDs 152 INTs

Mea culpa.. Lengel was #64 from December so he is even closer to the record.....
EDIT- If you're referring to Develin, they don't count playoffs or he's #65....

Develin should have been #65. Then NE would have been 15-1 and undefeated under Brady in 2016.

Well, what's too bad is that Develin and Solder both caught one from Brady IN A PLAYOFF GAME so that doesn't count. (funny enough it was the same game, 2014/2015 playoff vs Indy)

Brady will be at 69 during the last game, when he will purposely throw a ball off his own lineman's helmet, catch it and run it in for a TD, thus breaking the record and proving Giselle wrong, as yes, he can throw and catch it!

Since we're talking TDs I have a fun random fact, too!

Think of how amazing this is.........

Troy Brown played his entire career for one team, the Patriots. His tenure spanned from 1995 to 2007. As you know, this time frame was dominated by two quarterbacks, Tom Brady and Drew Bledsoe. That's right, those two combined to start 205 of the team's 208 games played in those seasons.

So here's the fun fact, even though two quarterbacks combined to start 98.5% of the team's games during his tenure, Troy Brown has caught at least one touchdown pass from 6 different passers.

In addition to Brady and Bledsoe, Troy caught a TD pass from the following individuals.....

Adam Vinatieri
Dave Meggett
David Patten
Vinny Testeverde

Tom Ashworth caught one as an eligible receiver (as noted earlier Solder did as well during a playoff game). So a 'lineman' can catch one without having someone else touch it first, but I see where you are going.

No hope for Dwayne Allen?

No hope for Dwayne Allen?
Brain fart in omitting him but Conway posted about it earlier
so if we start at 65 and add:
Allen
Gillislee
Burkhead
Cooks
maybe Lucien
Carr
O'Shaunessy
Slater??? ( stop laughing)
it's possible this year......

Why are we starting with 65? Someone mentioned Lengel was 64.

So if we are at 64 it's highly unlikely SIX new people get TDs this year. I would put the over/under at 3.5. After all, Cooks and Allen seem to be locks, but I doubt there will be four others (I'd say 2 others).

Oh, and we'd be right to laugh at Slater...........the guy has ONE career reception. That's right, ONE! There's a greater chance of Tom Brady throwing a TD pass to himself.

  1. Rob Gronkowski (67), plus 9 post-season
  2. Randy Moss (39), plus 1 post-season
  3. Wes Welker (34), plus 4 post-season
  4. Julian Edelman (24), plus 5 post-season
  5. Deion Branch (24), plus 4 post-season
  6. Aaron Hernandez (18), plus 2 post-season
  7. Ben Watson (17), plus 3 post-season

  28. Malcolm Mitchell (4)
  29. Donte' Stallworth (4)
  30. Kenbrell Thompkins (4)
  31. Chris Hogan (3), plus 2 post-season
  32. Doug Gabriel (3)
  33. Chad Jackson (3)
  34. Antowain Smith (3)
  35. Jermaine Wiggins (3)
  36. Alge Crumpler (2), plus 1 post-season
  37. Dion Lewis (2), plus 1 post-season
  38. Sam Aiken (2)
  39. Chris Baker (2)
  40. Brandon Bolden (2)
  41. Kyle Brady (2)
  42. Corey Dillon (2)
  43. Tim Dwight (2)
  44. Marc Edwards (2)
  45. Donald Hayes (2)
  46. Keshawn Martin (2)
  47. Brandon Tate (2)
  48. Tom Ashworth (1)
  49. LeGarrette Blount (1)
  50. Larry Centers (1)
  51. Cam Cleeland (1)
  52. Andre' Davis (1)
  53. Heath Evans (1)
  54. Michael Floyd (1)
  55. Terry Glenn (1)
  56. Michael Hoomanawanui (1)
  57. Chad Johnson (1)
  58. Charles Johnson (1)
  59. Matt Lengel (1)
  60. Matthew Mulligan (1)
  61. Patrick Pass (1)
  62. David Thomas (1)
  63. Brian Tyms (1)
  64. Dedric Ward (1)
  65. James Develin (1 post-season)
  66. Nate Solder (1 post-season)

Vinny Testaverde hold the NFL record for the most touchdown passes thrown to different players (70), but Brady owns the mark for the most thrown to different players on a single team. By comparison Brett Favre threw touchdowns to 44 different Green Bay Packers, and Peyton Manning threw TDs to 35 different Indianapolis Colts.

Also, here is the playoffs-only listing:
  1. 9 - Rob Gronkowski
  2. 7 - David Givens
  3. 5 - Julian Edelman
  4. 4 - Deion Branch
  5. 4 - Wes Welker
  6. 3 - Danny Amendola
  7. 3 - Jabar Gaffney
  8. 3 - Ben Watson
  9. 2 - Aaron Hernandez
  10. 2 - Chris Hogan
  11. 2 - Brandon LaFell
  12. 2 - Shane Vereen
  13. 2 - Mike Vrabel
  14. 2 - James White
  15. 1 - Troy Brown
  16. 1 - Reche Caldwell
  17. 1 - Alge Crumpler
  18. 1 - James Develin
  19. 1 - Kevin Faulk
  20. 1 - Daniel Graham
  21. 1 - Bethel Johnson
  22. 1 - Dion Lewis
  23. 1 - Brandon Lloyd
  24. 1 - Randy Moss
  25. 1 - David Patten
  26. 1 - Nate Solder
  27. 1 - Danny Woodhead

So not including post season TDs Brady has thrown to 64 different receivers in 16 seasons. Pure average alone says that 4 new receivers a year.

But all seasons should not be treated equal. We should eliminate his first season in which because every receiver represents a new TD target (that is an anomaly).

If we eliminate the 9 TD receivers from 2001 that leaves us with 54 receivers in 15 years for an adjusted expected average of 3.66 per year.

My bet would be four more new TD receivers this year (Cooks, Allen, 1 new RB, and 1 other) leaving him two short at 68 (but in position to break it the year after).

A perfect time to do a well scripted celebration, Peyton Manning style. Minus the high fives of course.
