    Most games started, 40+:
    Code:
    1) Ray Brown 48
    2) Jim Marshall 46 (- 2)
    3) Jerry Rice 45 (- 3)
    4) Warren Moon 33 (-15)
    5) Vinny Testaverde 32 (-16)
    6) Brett Favre 29 (-19)
    7) Tom Brady 23 (-25)

Brady and Favre are the only players to start every 40+ game they played in.

    Most rushing yards, 40+:
    Code:
    1) Doug Flutie 212
    2) Vinnie Testaverde 73 (-139)
    3) Warren Moon 58 (-154)
    4) Tom Brady 49 (-163)
    5) Earl Morrall 44 (-168)

Brady should be able to make it into the top 3, and maybe #2, but he's not going to catch Our Doug.

    Most passing yards, 40+:
    Code:
    1) Warren Moon 7,148
    2) Brett Favre 6,711 (- 437)
    3) Vinnie Testaverde 6,675 (- 473)
    4) Tom Brady 6,453 (- 695)
    5) George Blanda 1,835 (-5,313)
    6) Matt Hasselbeck 1,690 (-5,458)
    7) Doug Flutie 1,466 (-5,682)

Barring injury or other disaster, Brady will hold this record in a few games.

    Most passing TD, 40+:
    Code:
    1) Tom Brady 48
    2T) Brett Favre 44 (- 4)
    2T) Warren Moon 44 (- 4)
    4) Vinnie Testaverde 31 (-17)
    5) George Blanda 23 (-25)

    Most QB wins, 40+:
    Code:
    1) Tom Brady 18
    2) Brett Favre 17 (- 1)
    3) Warren Moon 15 (- 2)
    4) Vinnie Testaverde 10 (- 8)
    5) Matt Hasselbeck 5 (-13)

I guess kickers like Blanda weren’t considered starters in the 70’s

Thanks for the stats. Brady is so awesome and we are so lucky that he has QB'ed the Pats for so long! One thing that makes me a little sad is that these lists show that at some point, all good things come to an end.

I don't believe it anymore imo, I see Brady being at an MVP level at 45.

Now the season is over, I thought it appropriate to update the wonderful table of stats for 40-and older QuantumMechanic provided back in mid October. I did make a couple of changes beyond just updating the data. Firstly I noticed that the stats included all games played in the year the player turned 40, even if that player did not turn 40 until after the season began. For example Brett Favre turned 40 on October 10th 2009, which invalidated the stats from the 4 games he played while still 39 that season.

The second slight modification was to provide columns for regular, post season and career statistics, if only to highlight someone's increasingly impressive achievements:

Good point; George Blanda started 126 Games as a kicker, during which time he also performed as a non-starting QB (although I think he is credited with 1 start as a QB). I haven't looked up all kickers as there are quite a few 40 or older, but it would be good to point out Vinatieri's 103 Games started as a kicker (he is a part of this remarkable dynasty despite his current colors).

Who do y'all think retires first? Brady or Brees? I think Brees might call it quits after two more seasons max. Still not sure how long Brady plans to play.

That’s the price of starting. Finishing
The price of life is death.
One thing that I try to think more about is a complex thought that I’ll hazard an explanation.
The fact that it will end and knowing it, makes it more beautiful than if it were permanent. As dumb as it sounds. The possibility of darkness makes light exciting. Life’s like riding a burning Ferris wheel

It is going to be close. Brees tailed off at the end of last season, and was a shadow of his early season form (barring Game 1). I wonder if he has the stamina to last a full season and playoffs as time takes its toll, although I noted that he joined the 40 and over club on January 15th. The NFCC was his first game to qualify for the 40-and-older table. GS 1 GW0 PY 249 RY -2

Brees. Just a strong hunch. I think Brady is playing until his 45 season and maybe even his 46 season (at that point he he may be within one season of 300 total wins.)
