His son would be helped by coaching elsewhere for awhile. But it really doesn't matter because Bill wants his son to rise up the ranks to be an eventual HC so we have to live with it.
So why have a coordinator?Yep. It absolutely starts and stops with Bill.
The habit of blaming FO personnel, coordinators and position coaches and not BB is moronic.
Serious question? So why have a coordinator?
Hardly the first HC 's son to become an HC. While it's clear that Bill wants Steven to rise up the ranks I think it's pretty clear that he's not promoting Steve over his head. As a coach Steve's units usually perform if they don't outperform. If this team was in clear contention, my vote would be yes. Since they are not, It's better he learns from his mistakes now.

No punts vs AFCE champs, it's hard to find fault with the work Steve has done and he clearly understands defenses fairly well in his own right.

WRONG.Steve would have probably gotten the same promotions within a year or 2 of when he got them, without Bill at the head of the org. While I understand the concerns about nepotism, it's hard to find fault with the work Steve has done and he clearly understands defenses fairly well in his own right.
And ARE YOU COMPLETELY OUT OF YOUR ****ING MIND wrong.Another org might have promoted/hired Steve formally as the DC a year or 2 ago in fact.

What if they did their postmortem on the playoff game and found that the strategy was sound it was just that they didn't have the horses to pull it off? Coaches are responsible for getting the pieces in the right places but if the players can't do their job (to coin a phrase) it's not necessarily on the coach that set them up in the correct spots. The Pats played the Bills three time in a month, the first time was in a wind storm, and they held them to 10 points.
The second time was at home, and they scored pretty much everytime they touched the ball.
The third time was a few weeks later, and ZERO changes were made, the Pats were humiliated!! They had zero punts in TWO GAMES! ZERO!
Buffalo scored TDs on its first seven straight drives. ANYONE who was responcible for that perfomance should be sacked!
Sometimes, you get caught off guard, but Buffalo did not change a thing between games 2 and 3, so that is entirely on scheme and coaching.
You have to pressure Allen, you can't just let him sit there for 9 seconds! He makes mistakes when he is pressured.
Any other DC would have been fired after that game, Stevie Boy is lucky he still has a job.

(I'm sort of playing devil's advocate here)
If the coaches realized there was nothing they could do, that would make them incompetent and should get fired. If the coaches realized there was nothing they could do, why is it there fault if there was nothing they can do?
That's stupid. You either have the personnel or you don't. If the plan doesn't work but was the best plan available then the coaches did their job.If the coaches realized there was nothing they could do, that would make them incompetent and should get fired.
The players probably DO know, even if it's a bit more murky from the outside.Steve or whoever, the Pats need a clearly designated and accountable DC so the players know who's in charge.
